Sorry, but I do! He just kept slowly driving through them. I'm heartily tired of the bully boy tactics of Just Stop Oil thinking they can rely on people not to keep driving at them. I'm so glad he called their bluff. Also glad it was Scotland. They are pretty hardy there and take nae shite!

I love the way the protestors seem genuinely outraged at being put at 'risk' even though they are choosing to sit in front of his bus....

Working class Scots being inconvenienced by a load of gobshite, lefty southerners. Fuck off home to Hampstead.

It literally says in the title of the video that they are trying to prevent people boarding the Bibby Stockholm. The asylum barge. In, err, Dorset. Not Scotland.

FindRachel · 19/10/2023 17:42

Surely the bus driver was protesting too. As is his right.

I was centimetres away from hitting a child playing chicken in the road last week. It was dark and he was wearing all black. Afterwards I was wondering how I would have felt it I had hit him as it was so close. I knew it wouldn't have been the same emotion as if I had knocked over someone who wasn't playing chicken.

Ok, my bad. I saw Scottish Sun and made an assumption.

I stand by the rest of it.

I don't understand why you even thought it was Scotland. The description of the video you linked says Dorset, and says it was about the Bibby Stockholm.

LetMeGoogleThat · 19/10/2023 17:44

Even the name Just stop Oil has a brattish feel about it, in my head I add 'or I will scream and scream, until I'm sick'

WeWereInParis · 19/10/2023 17:46

You mean your point about how silly it is for environmental protesters to protest a bus? When they weren't protesting over the environment.

Fair enough to support the coach driver, but it's silly to disagree with the protesters when you've not understood what they're protesting

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 19/10/2023 17:48

blueskybees · 19/10/2023 17:20

Stop exaggerating. It’s not a weapon. It’s a very slowly moving bus that they are all very capable of moving out of the way of. Which they did.

The only 'weapons' are the JSO numpties!

I stand by people not standing in front of vehicles going about their legitimate business.
I stand by said people not being outraged when said vehicles don't obligingly facilitate their protest by stopping for them.

If this is JSO - like it says it is - I also think this is a good example of how groups should keep focused on their core mission and not get diverted off into other areas.

“Have you any idea how much damage that bulldozer big, red coach would suffer if I just let it roll straight over you?”

“How much?” said Arthur Imogen.

“None at all,” said Mr. Prosser,”

CatOnAHotShedRoof · 19/10/2023 18:01

Anyone who knows Portland, knows there is only one road on and off the island. If whoever, rightly or wrongly, blocks the road in protest, everywhere grinds to a halt. No-one can go anywhere. Same goes for when there's an accident. The road gets closed for hours and no-one can get in or off Portland.

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 19/10/2023 18:03

He should've made pancakes of them. Could've composted them afterwards, they'd have made a contribution to the environment and we wouldn't have to put up with them anymore. Everyone's happy.

LakeTiticaca · 19/10/2023 18:04

Yep they can flatten the lot of them as far as I'm concerned

CacenCaws · 19/10/2023 18:15

It's quite frightening to watch especially when they start sitting down. Good driving by the bus driver

Did you feel that way when the Hong Kong protests, the occupy Wall Street protests, the Yellow Vest protests, the Indian farmers protests, and the Dakota Access Pipeline protests all blocked roads?

Or is it just protests about things you don't like / that might inconvenience you that get your hump up?

blueskybees · 19/10/2023 17:20

Of course it is a weapon. The protestors wouldn't have moved away if it wasn't.

Like you I am against protestors being able to block the road. Unlike you I don't like violence being threatened. I am against violence. I'm not sure that you are.

The solution is not to applaud violence or the threat of violence (which includes the threat of running someone over) but to make it illegal for the highway to be blocked by protestors. Then the police could deal with it lawfully.

I don't want to live in a world where a man in a foul temper decides he doesn't want me in my home so he uses his greater size and strength to force me out into the street. He didn't touch me. He just stood up, his 19 stone against my 8 stone, his 6 foot four against my 5 foot 2, his huge fists against my rather elegant hands, and glowering and threatening he walked me out of my own house and locked the door.

dutysuite · 19/10/2023 18:32

I think the protesters are aholes and won't have my support when they behave like this.

NoRealChange · 19/10/2023 18:38

It’s like the slowest sequel to Speed the movie.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/10/2023 18:56

Tickles me that none of them had the balls to let the coach run them over. If you are going to threaten others you need to be willing to follow through or eventually people will realise you are a just a bully with nothing to back it up.

I notice the arsehole in the tan jacket who gave the order to sit down in front of the coach didn't even stand in front of it and quickly got out of the way.

seoo · 19/10/2023 19:01

Sorry but I don’t agree - are you looking at this from a personal or a professional perspective?

in the eyes of his employer he fucked up. A heavy vehicle of that size can potentially cause harm to someone at low speeds. I doubt your ankle would be completely free of harm if it was caught under the wheel regardless of speed due to the weight. There’s also the crush risk of people piled on top of each other. It’s a high risk, emotive situation and I reckon the courts/police may see this as careless/reckless driving

dont get me wrong the protesters are absolute idiots and I don’t support them, I equally find them attention seeking vermin, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the driver regrets this once his livelihood is impacted. You don’t fight batshit people with batshit acts and they won’t drop this but use it as a rod to beat him with

Cosycover · 19/10/2023 19:02

NoRealChange · 19/10/2023 19:03

It is quite scary to watch. I do not support the protesters, but goodness it could have been really dangerous if someone had slipped under the wheels. And I doubt a court would have shown any leniency with the driver unfortunately had there been a fatality.

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 19/10/2023 20:03

Quick way to solve that @NoRealChange they move?
