To have a shower with 6 month old in the bathroom

Ok so I haven't had a shower in TWO days (DH is on a work trip) and was hoping to have one while my 6 month old was napping but she woke up before I could. Anyway, I fed her, changed her nappy, she was happy as Larry so I stuck her in her chair that has a busy board on it and placed her in the doorway of the bathroom.

Got undressed and started the shower. About a minute in she started crying very hard. Like she was scared 🥺 so I got out and cuddled her but she was looking at me like she wasn't convinced about me.

Is it abnormal to shower with very little babies in the bathroom?
She's breastfed so my boobs flopping out shouldn't have looked weird.
I mean I always have my hair up so maybe she saw a mass of big black hair around me and got scared?
Or maybe she thought the shower was attacking me?

But AIBU to have tried to shower with her in there?

I won't be doing it again because she seemed terrified but it wasn't something I thought was very wrong..

Absolutely fine to do that.

My babies liked the sound of the shower and appliances like washing machine.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/10/2023 12:34

You’re overthinking - I always had my babies in bouncers at the door as I showered. Babies sometimes cry- you aren’t traumatising them I promise

Jelllytot · 19/10/2023 12:34

Or maybe she was horrified at the sight of my grotesque naked body

Perfectly fine. She'll be fine. X

Seryse · 19/10/2023 12:35

I do it all the time with 2 (19 week in her bouncy chair, 19 month in his high chair haha). 19 month old reacted the same way as your lo did, found out it was the shower he was scared of. Did some play time, took him in the shower with me a few times and he doesn't mind it now. He also is used to me with my hair piled up in a messy bun and cries if it's down so could he a combination of both?

takealettermsjones · 19/10/2023 12:35

It's absolutely fine. It may have been the sudden noise of the shower going on. If you do it more often she'll get used to it!

Thiswayorthatway · 19/10/2023 12:35

I used to shower with baby in a bouncy chair in the bathroom. Maybe the noise startled her? She’ll be fine and it’s important you look after yourself too.

Hermittrismegistus · 19/10/2023 12:35

I just left the baby in the cot in the bedroom while I showered. Never understood the need to take them into the bathroom.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 19/10/2023 12:36

Just slowly introduce her to everything that was different, have your hair down, whilst she's in your arms put shower on and then hopefully she'll be able to shower with you.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 19/10/2023 12:37

Also get her use to any other noise you can, hairdryer, hoover, toilet flushing

Lalaloulous · 19/10/2023 12:37

This is basically how I showered every day when mend we're all under 1. Sometimes they would cry, sometimes they wouldn't but it's not long even if they do. Totally fine and normal.

Caspianberg · 19/10/2023 12:37

I found a bath easier when Ds went through phase of hating shower noise. That way have bath, baby in bouncer chair. Sometimes brought them in bath with me also

And could never have left in cot alone awake as he would scream and be sick.

Thiswayorthatway · 19/10/2023 12:38

As a PP said, also perfectly fine to leave baby safe in cot whilst you shower. She’ll learn quickly that you come back.

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 19/10/2023 12:40

Is she your first baby?

You remind me of how I was with DS. I used to put him in his bouncy chair on the floor of the bathroom so he could see me while I was in shower. But I remember feeling highly anxious the whole time because I was worried the steam might be too much for his delicate little perfect baby lungs and make him cough!

He's seven now and this morning he smacked me on the bum and called me a butthead as he ran away laughing. Your DD will be absolutely fine.

Lovemychair · 19/10/2023 12:43

At that age I used to take dd into the shower with me and wash us both at the same time.

She came out of your body 6 months ago. She will have no opinion whatsoever about it.

Have a shower! If she cries then she cries, it’s a few minutes and will in no way harm her.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/10/2023 12:54

Seriously has she not slept for longer than 10 minutes in 2 whole days?

Daffodil18 · 19/10/2023 12:55

I used to do this with my DC who is 2. She would cry when my hair was wet and still does. I think it’s the change in my hair.

EasternStandard · 19/10/2023 12:55

It was more likely the noise

theduchessofspork · 19/10/2023 12:56

It’s fine - just a bit noisy and new.

Do it again quickly a couple times, then she’ll be used to it

PinkRoses1245 · 19/10/2023 12:56

Of course it's fine, I'm surprised it's taken you this long to do it! And it's fine to let her cry for a minutes.

DuploTrain · 19/10/2023 12:57

I used to leave mine in the cot, we had a musical mobile thing that stopped him crying for about 30 seconds.

So I’d run like the wind, shower quickly and come back to dress in the bedroom. He’d still be crying but he cried most of the time so I was used it.

Sheeponacid · 19/10/2023 12:57

The way you talk about your body is sad.
