Not to feel sorry for David Walliams?

And to think that if he's going to be rude and indecent while wearing a microphone on set that you don't have an expectation of privacy?

And suicidal thoughts, my arse.

He's just sorry he got caught.

Disgusting man. His kids books should be banned - they’re borderline racist and laugh at the fat, the poor and single mums. Trying to produce a generation of kids as ignorant as he is.

He can fuck off to the far side of forever

This... cant stand the bloke

BardRelic · 18/10/2023 22:13

Saying you don't say sackable things when wearing a microphone seems a bit of a low bar for piety. Still, welcome to the brave new world and all that.

Nonplusultra · 18/10/2023 22:18

He was the first person I wondered about during the speculation before the RB news. The things he said didn’t make me think any less of him - he’s always operated in plain sight. Did anyone ever, at any point, think he was a fundamentally decent person? Why we give these creeps airtime and platforms is beyond me.

I still think he has a valid point about the ethics of this situation.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 18/10/2023 22:25

Power imbalance, abusive personal comments to others = cunt ethics. He's a pallid, cold sweat skinned, woman hating, racist, abusive ego maniac with an intense self loathing who exhibits mocking stereotypical parodies of gay men and any women. Pulling a 16 yr old boys pants down and kissing his bottom, on stage?? WTAF in what world was he not prosecuted, disgusting fuck. Books have a horrible message too. Fuck him.

MsRosley · 18/10/2023 23:10

I work in the same industry as Walliams and I can hand on heart say I have never come across someone so universally loathed. I have never met anybody who has a good word to say about him.

bombastix · 18/10/2023 23:13

I wonder why these people like Brand and Walliams are so popular? I mean someone has to choose them. It's something about the UK, maybe?

Blinky21 · 18/10/2023 23:14

Having met him can confirm he's pretty nasty

Dontfencemein · 18/10/2023 23:19

His apology at the time was very very hollow. He was just sorry he’d been caught and had no remorse whatsoever. I can’t see this legal action doing him any favours, even if he wins, he’s shown his
true colours.

Jack Monroe is a lying scammer who, if anything, deserves to be cancelled more than Walliams, for her fake backstory, scheming, and charity fraud. She's committed crimes, and no one cares because she's portrayed as a "good leftie" therefore everything she does must have an innocent explanation. Different type of crime, but this is how Brand was protected back when he was still a "good leftie" himself.

Monroe's criticism of Walliams' books was not even valid: she claimed a particular character was black when she wasn't, and tried to claim it was racist.

I would never advocate banning books; if kids or parents don't like them, then they don't have to read them. It's hard enough for kids to be interested in reading without banning popular books, however distasteful people might find them.

Oh give over. Walliam's books are piss poor racist, misogynist drivel which would never have made it past the publisher's intray if he had been Fred Smith from Barnet.

Celebs exploit the children's book market because the quality bar is so low for a celeb writing children's books. The big white male celeb could piss on a piece of paper and get it published.

There are plenty of good books out there covering every theme and genre - if your children won't read without a dose of racism and misogyny then you have a much bigger problem than Walliams.

ScruffMuffin · 19/10/2023 09:31

Thanks for the link to the article about his revolting 'game', Hide the Sausage (urgh!). This quote is very telling.

In another part of the documentary, the star tells: “I love cruelty, it’s my favourite thing in the world.
“You’ve got to know the boundaries. That’s funny but if I started exposing their penis or something, it would just be horrible then, it would just be abuse.”

The cruelty thing is very evident from his behaviour over the years. But he's wrong about the boundaries - it isn't funny at all, and is most definitely abusive, whether it concerns a child or a non-consenting adult.

I don't think his comments alone were bad enough for his career to be ruined. I'm aware there's probably worse stories about him to come out though.

I'm also sick of celebrities milking the suicidal card every time they're caught misbehaving. The irresponsible way the media portrayed Caroline Flack's death as being the fault of social media bullies has given celebrities the go-ahead to weaponise suicide, in order to silence criticism and play the victim.

I agree. I would never treat anyone who mentioned suicide with anything less than great caution but I do think it's easy to throw it around when you are a 'celebrity' needing sympathy. It's just more 'poor me, I'm unaccountable' stuff.

DW is a lizard & I think there is far more to come sadly.

Sounds like he's is having a really shit time at the moment. I prefer not celebrate when people are having a shit time, if I can't offer empathy then I scroll on rather than putting out more negativity about them. Perhaps you should do the same.

I imagine it's lonely on the moral high ground over this person.

Even more sinister it’s a classic move in the abusive male handbook- a threat to kill themselves when they don’t get their way or when a mere woman tries to assert her boundaries.

He can fuck right off. Prick. As if any woman would think she’d want to fuck that complete pillock.

You are right, of course.

Rarely (if ever) followed through with, though there may be a faux attempt so that they can guilt and blame others - "You made me do this!"

They will never take responsibility for their own actions.

serialthreadkiller · 19/10/2023 10:41

Was surprised to hear Chris Evans announce that DW was going to be on his radio show tomorrow morning, but then have thought for some time that his judgement is rather suspect when it comes to choosing friends; Harvey Weinstein, Russell Brand, David Walliams... 🤔

Conkersinautumn · 19/10/2023 10:49

Lost his ability to be funny? He never was. He was ever the basic bully poking fun at anyone with less social capital than his white, male wealthy privileged pointless backside.

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/10/2023 10:49

LeonBlack · 18/10/2023 21:54

I have definitely said things about other people that I wouldn’t want recorded and shared. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t.

I have, too - but if I was caught out I'd own it!

And I've never publicly and deliberately humiliated anyone.

I feel like he’s on the cusp of a Russell Brand-type reckoning soon.. I hope you are right, @Sparklesocks

Jack Monroe is a lying scammer. @slore

Yes - and she is vindictive in the extreme, too - she has set her "flying monkeys' on many people who disagreed with her (once on a disabled man whose post she misinterpreted - she nearly broke him IIRC). I would love to see her get her comeuppance.

She is another one who pulls the mental (and physical) health card if she's ever called to account. A thoroughly unpleasant individual and proven liar

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/10/2023 11:00

ScruffMuffin · 18/10/2023 20:52

@Emotionalsupportviper I also love your username! Did you read the news report about the emotional support alligator recently?

Oooh! No - I didn't!

I'll have to have a google.

My name came about from the Allison Bailey court case where one of the witnesses for Stonewall the LGBTQ(RSTUVWXYZetc)+ organisation was zoom-examined in his/her/their/its room and an inadvertent movement/ noise caused the judge and counsel to ask if anyone else was there.

There was - person's mother, a lawyer from the chambers Allison was suing (who should really have known better) and an emotional support dog (which was rather gorgeous).

So I became Allison's Emotionalsupportviper. ("Mosh" to my friends) It seemed only fair.

I'll have to look the alligator up. 😁

bemorelemmy · 18/10/2023 20:30

I get it, I'm in a minority of one!
as I say, it's just something unsavoury about leaking it all
by all means escalate to managers - I don't dispute the power imbalance- but if we publicised the ramblings of everyone we consider vile, thereby ruining their lives, there'd be no-one left.
I'll say again- he has a child- they'll google this and see a tonne of pure conjecture amid the genuine (albeit leaked) quotes "something off about him"- intimations of sexual assault.
@BiscuitsandPuffin you don't say anything out loud that could be used against you- ever?- not to good friends in the pub, not to a close colleague at work? wow!

This is a dangerous false analogy. He wasn't in the pub with his mates, he was at work, in a situation where he was well-aware he was being recorded.

It's the equivalent of attending a Zoom meeting, hitting the "accept" button that comes up that says "this Zoom is being recorded, hit accept to acknowledge and consent to be recorded", then saying something in the Zoom meeting because because all the other participants except your friend have their cameras off, so you assume they're away from their desks, and you also assume no one will ever watch the full Zoom recording, then being astonished to be held accountable.

going against the grain but there's something truly sinister about sound engineers (or whoever it was) leaking private conversations. Of course you're going to say off the cuff things during an entire day- you're not going to be fully on your guard- and you shouldn't have to be. Imagine someone told you they'd recorded everything you'd said today and intended to publicise it? I know I wouldn't be feeling very relaxed.

I really don't understand why people indulge in such ludicrous hyperbole. Do you really think celebrities are miked up 24/7?? They are miked for the short period of time they are actively at work - literally no difference from people whose office jobs require them to be signed into Zoom or Teams while at their desks (except that DW is being paid millions). Most people can restrain themselves from saying stupid shit until they've switched Zoom off.

So for your "truly sinister" post to be accurate, it would need to be worded like this: "Imagine if someone told you they'd recorded everything you'd said while you were at work and actively logged into Zoom, and you'd had private conversations while sitting in the office logged into Zoom."

If you want to have a private conversation, just log out of Zoom, or better yet wait until you're outside the office, it's not exactly rocket science to know to watch your tongue while physically inside your workplace, in a situation where you're completely aware that you are being recorded!

IIRC (and I may not - so much of that case resembled a fever dream), that particular witness had a declared emotional support person in the room and visible on screen. And then turned out to also have the undeclared off-screen support dog, mother and lawyer (who was 'only there to operate the computer').

Emotionalsupportviper · 19/10/2023 11:55

That's right, @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn !

I knew there was someone missing (it just didn't seem as long a list as I remembered), but I couldn't think who I'd missed out.

Thank you for the reminder.

The subterfuge, and obvious underhanded attempt to coach/ influence the witness should (IMO) have got the entire Garden Court Chambers disbarred for cheating. I was shocked that a legal professional was involved in it.

Had it been above board, then surely the lawyer's presence in particular would have been declared.

@ScruffMuffin That was John Barrowman that did that. I saw him at comic con in Edinburgh last week he gave me the creeps

Always reminded me of Jimmy Saville. Something off with him.
Boo hoo I've lost a million. Not one grain of sympathy from me.

I agree. I'm sure he isn't in JS' league, but I have always got serious 'nope' vibes off him.
