And if a sound engineer hears a man making sexually inappropriate comments to a woman, they absolutely should report it. In this case, they're more likely to be believed than if the woman who was the victim hears and reports it (if she even feels able to, with the power imbalance). We really need to collectively cultivate a culture that makes sure this sort of shit doesn't fly.

I think you're talking bollocks but I was trying to work out why. Then I did.

I work in social housing. I have vastly more power, privilege and resources than anyone who lives in the housing. So if I called a tenant a cunt at work, it would be a horrible misuse of my power. If I still worked at a call centre and some awful caller with all the power called and was as terrible as they usually were, calling them a cunt is proportionate and actually OK.

DW is rich, in charge, and has all the typical markers of privilege. Him saying those things is additionally nasty because of that.

The thing is anyone who's worked in television for any length of time knows that when you're mic is on everything you say is heard and recorded. If you don't want what you're saying to be heard and recorded you turn your mic off. He thought that because he is the big I am he could say anything and nothing would come back to bite him.

I'm sure the others say some nasty stuff too although I'm guessing nothing as nasty as he said but my guess is that they treat the crew well and he doesn't.
