Why do M&S do this?!

AsACloud · 14/10/2023 16:44

Granted other stores probably do same but this is about M&S as that’s where I bought the jumper from.
I took the size sticker off the jumper and it’s left an imprint. Left the jumper for a while thinking it might ‘bounce back’ and it didn’t so I washed it, thinking the fibres might fluff out and still no luck. So there’s still a mark and an imprint…right at the front, under the neck too so in a really obvious place.
Any bright ideas to fix? Can’t return the jumper.

Genius suggestion 😉

Mumsnet is amazing, ask a niche question and along comes the exact person to answer it 😁i bet you read this and thought, me,me,me, I know the answer!

I thought the same 😁
Although I do think the stickers are unnecessary. The label clearly states the size and there was a tag attached also with the size 🤷🏻‍♀️
Primark do this with black jeans and leaves a mark on them also!

Thanks for everyone’s replies though, much appreciated.

You seem to be looking for reasons not to try and return it. Unless you have to travel for miles is t it worth at least asking?

I’m really not. I explained already that I bought it in the UK and live in Ireland. You can’t buy an item in £ and return to a € store. Pretty sure a £15 jumper is not worth a flight back to where I bought it.

Primark?? Are you sure you are in Ireland... 🤔😂

Glad you got it sorted!!

AlexaCanYouHearMe · 14/10/2023 17:53

I do agree the stickers seem unnecessary @AsACloud Glad you got it sorted. Cracking suggestion there from @Ohdearwhatnow4 "Try putting the mark between 2 bits of baking paper then ironing." 😝Nice one! 😄

Sorry, I should have been clear. I bought it in the spring and then didn’t use it as weather warmer so kept it for the winter. I cut the tags off and took the sticker off at the time and didn’t notice the imprint until I went to wear it this week.

If I remember rightly you’ve got 3 years to return faulty stuff

Hmm the sticker being on for ages might be the problem.

But anyway, dig out your bank statement and tell them this, they’ll probably give you a voucher.

I was trying to be ‘international’ for the masses!
Obviously I usually refer to the local (and original 😉) Penneys.

Not quite relevant to this, but I was having a clear out a few months ago. I found £30 worth of M&S gift vouchers that were about 30 years old. I took them into the store just on the off chance, and they let me use them!!!

Then tell them that when you take it back.
They may give you a credit note. It's worth a punt.

Try putting the mark between 2 bits of baking paper then ironing.

Why does this work? Do you know? Is it just sticky stuff it removes?

I've done that exact thing, M&S were really good about it, bought in the UK and returned in Ireland

Also when I was not living near an M&S I bought a nightie, the colour went funny the first wash, contacted customer service, they were great, had me post it to their office and then gave me back the purchase price, postage and a little extra by way of a digital gift card that I could spend online or instore

I work for M&S and I’m actually responsible for those stickers . Basically, we have to use one adhesive which needs to stick to all types of fibres. Unfortunately, it adheres to some types of fabric more than others. Take it back to M&S and get a replacement or a refund.

Ooh interesting to know! Thank you!

PickleDig · 14/10/2023 18:44

OP it looks lovely now!

MrsRobert · 14/10/2023 18:59

That's brilliant! I was sent a gift of some M&S clothes from Cork (I'm in the UK) and they were too small. My local M&S were happy to exchange even though I said they were bought in Euros. I felt a bit of a chancer but there was no problem!

thats the thing with the stickers etc, when it marks the items its difficult to come off.

I used to always ask for sticky labels on books to be removed by the staff in the shop, I was fed up of the covers being damaged however careful I was. They seem to peel of more easily these days.

MassageForLife · 14/10/2023 19:07

I’m glad you said this. Not wanting to do myself out of a job, but I also don’t think they are necessary, but we have a very interesting customer base, and essentially what the customer wants, they get.

TorroFerney · 14/10/2023 19:23

AsACloud · 14/10/2023 16:52

No, I bought it in store and not even in the country where I live so couldn’t return it where I live (£ v €)

that Doesn’t make any difference. I bought a pair of jeans in Kuala Lumpur which ripped at the crotch not long after. Took them back to the Burnley branch and the till did the ringitt to sterling conversion.
