To think this is a lot of money?

£100.. for balayage. I'm in the north. I've never paid more than £70 for my hair.. maybe £80 absolute max so I nearly hit the floor when she said £100. I don't dislike it but it's not what I showed her.. photo is what I showed vs what she's done.

Is this the standard price now for balayage? I'd been to same hairdresser for years but I moved away.

I had my hair cut this morning and asked how much balayage would be as mine needs doing in the next few weeks and she said £100 but that was including a cut. Cut was £36 today. Balayage shouldn’t need doing again in six weeks, I last had mine done about a year ago and it doesn’t look terrible, it just is more subtle.

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 18:39

I've straightened it and must admit I'm not over the moon..

Your hair is really nice. A cut, colour and dry is £170 in one of Edinburgh's top salons but they always do a fabulous job. I don't think £100 is that expensive.

ThePoshUns · 14/10/2023 18:42

I thought the first photo is what you had had done and was about to say go back as that doesn't look like bayalage to me.
Your hair looks lovely. Mine is shorter than yours and I pay about the same.

Lovemychair · 14/10/2023 18:44

I think you need it curly, balayage always looks better with curls.

Champsandbubbles · 14/10/2023 18:44

No that's reasonable

ButterMyParsnip · 14/10/2023 18:45

Your hair looks more like balayage than the photo you showed them but it's a completely different colour.

Mine is blonde and I think you had a bargain. I pay £180 per visit. It's a lovely salon, the hairdresser is talented and the way she paints my hair means I can go 3 months without maintenance.

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 18:48

It looks awful straight... the blonde starts high up at one side and lower at the other

I think you should send this photo to your stylist and just mention that you’re not completely happy. She might offer a redo or a discount.

Avocadot0ast · 14/10/2023 18:56

@northernbird1988 ok honestly she’s not done a very good job looking at it straight so I can see why you’re upset, I’ve been there too! Balayage should blend beautifully and melt together regardless of if it’s straight or curled. It’s hand placed for this reason and more expensive as a result. Honestly I’d go back and get it corrected or if you have the funds pay someone else to correct it, but if she put a dark root on you’ll need someone who knows what they are doing with bleach to lift that without compromising your hair, you’ll need foils at the front and higher up so it all blends (in my non expert opinion.)

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 19:07

Yeah it's not ideal is it and DH paid so he's not going to be happy knowing I want to change it Sad I've lost faith in her so think I'm going to go to another salon asap (need a loan from somewhere first though)

How long did it take the whole thing?

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 19:09

@marketing101 2 hours... she wasn't very professional and I think she might've still been drunk from the night before 🤦🏼‍♀️

OP posts:
marketing101 · 14/10/2023 19:24

Oh goodness I thought it would have been longer. Never had a drunk hairdresser 😳

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2023 19:25

Looks fantastic !

Dead cheap, what a bargain Grin (six)

SwordBilledHummingbird · 14/10/2023 19:28

That's not a good job at all OP :( I have balayage and it just looks like natural sun-lightened hair regardless of how it's styled. At the moment I've not had it done, not even a touch up, for 15 months and it still looks great! If done well it really should be very low maintenance.

CountTo10 · 14/10/2023 19:32

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 16:25

@cherrypied Yeah it was a cut, blow dry, curled etc. I think you might be right they do look more like highlights in the photo I showed x

Omg! All that for £100! That's a bargain.

I had my hair cut and coloured about 15 years ago and she charged me £150 and I have short hair. I'm in the North too and this wasn't a city centre salon either.

I still go there because she's a fantastic stylist but a cut and blow dry is £70 so I never get it fouled and use a box dye instead.

CarpetLady · 14/10/2023 19:33

It's more like a dip dye.

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 19:36

@CarpetLady it does actually!!

Missingmyusername · 14/10/2023 19:38

You need to complain. It is not what you showed her. Go and get your money back!

It looked lovely curly to be honest but now you’ve straightened it, it just looks like you have lots of root regrowth.

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 19:41

@Missingmyusername not even regrowth at that.. the blonde starts about 2 inches higher on one side than the other Sad

Lose10kyesterday · 14/10/2023 19:42

Oh, dear, it looked so lovely curly!

Mycatshandbag · 14/10/2023 19:47

I got half head of highlights with toner and a blow dry (no cut) for £117 today, south east. With a cut it would have been another £50. I'd love to get my colour done for less than 100!

Mammyloveswine · 14/10/2023 19:50

I'm in the north east and i pay £75 for a full head of highlights, toner, cut and blow.. £109 for balayage is a good price!

sammielouise · 14/10/2023 20:12

Definitely send her photos of what it looks like straight; you shouldn't have to pay more to get it fixed! But I do get what you mean about losing confidence Flowers
