To think this is a lot of money?

£100.. for balayage. I'm in the north. I've never paid more than £70 for my hair.. maybe £80 absolute max so I nearly hit the floor when she said £100. I don't dislike it but it's not what I showed her.. photo is what I showed vs what she's done.

Is this the standard price now for balayage? I'd been to same hairdresser for years but I moved away.

That is about 350 where I am so you got a steal.

momonpurpose · 14/10/2023 17:41

Yours is pretty but it is not at all what you asked for. I would ask if they can correct it. The price is fair IF you had gotten the color you wanted

theduchessofspork · 14/10/2023 17:43

I think that’s pretty good! It’s usually a lot more than foils..

It looks good, you can always go a bit darker next time, but a bit too light is usually more flattering than a bit too dark. The model does look like she has darker natural colouring than you.

Avocadot0ast · 14/10/2023 17:44

I’m lightening my hair at the moment from dark brown to ash blonde balayage. I’m about to have my third appointment next weekend.

£230 a time (Olaplex, tint, blow dry too) , £250 with a cut. It’s gone up in price a lot in the last few years. It was £150 4 years ago for everything. I spent April-July refusing to get it done despite desperately wanting it as the price was expensive and I knew it would take around 4 treatments to get where I wanted. But I gave in in the end and started in August.

I don’t love the price but it seems to be norm round by me now. Once it’s done and where I want it, my experience is that it’s very low maintenance, I used to alternate half a head or baby lights and a full head every 5ish months.

I think your hairdressers has done a good job!

Sworntofun · 14/10/2023 17:45

I’m also in the North of England and last week I had a half head of highlights on really short hair(slightly shorter than collar length) and was staggered to be charged £163!!! I was so shocked I just paid but I won’t be going back there again. It’s not even in the middle of a big city, just an ordinary salon in my town. I think you had to pay a lot but it looks lovely. £100 is about what I’d expect it to be. But what is it about women’s hairdressing? So very expensive! I didn’t even like the cut - took approximately 2 mins

pancakesandsunshine · 14/10/2023 17:45

Is really lovely, my daughter pays £170 odd for hers (she lives in Cardiff)
It does last ages though.
The first photo looks more like lowlights/highlights which are often a bit cheaper(not sure why but hopefully a hairdresser will be able to tell us why if they see this thread)

northernbird1988 · 14/10/2023 16:23

Aww, Thank you. I think the blonde is what's letting it down as I wanted more darker/caramel autumnal tones where as this is still very blonde. I'm not crying about it and will live with it but it's disappointing when it isn't what was in your head isn't it!

I remember always paying around £50 for ages.. then went up to £60. But maybe £100ish must be the going rate now even up north? I just thought it sounded an awful lot as I didn't have any Olaplex treatments or anything.

I might have to go back to box dye before too long Sad

My friend is a hairdresser and charges 140-150. Can you ask your hairdresser to add more toner to the blonde bits so it's not so blonde? That's what she told me to ask for when I had a hair dresser do my hair and it was too blonde. Definitely helped.

laclochette · 14/10/2023 17:50

It looks beautiful! You'd need an all-over colour as well as the balayage to get closer to the pic as the base colour is so much darker. Hopefully your colourist explained that to you. Also, a balayage shouldn't need touching up every 6-8 weeks, it's one of the plus points of the technique that you get natural looking grow-out.

I know comparing across regions is stupid but in case it makes you feel better, I pay £150 for just a haircut, no blow dry and not even a shampoo, (as they cut it dry, to suit your hair's natural state without styling). The cut does last me twice as long as where I used to go, though. At least that's how I justify it 😬

mummydoris2006 · 14/10/2023 17:55

My DD17 paid £181 today for balayage, couple of inches below collar bone length. We're Lincolnshire.

TerfTalking · 14/10/2023 17:55

I’m in the north, paid £87 (which included a tenner tip) for my roots and a full head of highlights and low lights and a trim AND Olaplex.

I do like your hair OP though, it’s lovely.

21ZIGGY · 14/10/2023 17:58

My local small village in cheshire salon is 70 for balayage and 30 for cut and blow

CarpetLady · 14/10/2023 18:00

Yours looks great. I don't think you could have got the look in the first picture without starting off darker- putting that copper colour through yours wouldn't look right.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/10/2023 18:04

Mine was £150 for the same a couple of months ago. Am in south east.

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 14/10/2023 18:04

Sounds about average for balayage now. Maybe even cheaper than average actually! It was £65 to £75 where I live some 5-8 years ago. So £100 now sounds OK.

It's £50 for a dry cut where I live now, and £60 for a wet cut! £80 for a cut and blow dry, and £135 for highlights. Used to be (pre covid) £15-18 for a dry cut, £23 for a wet cut, £30-32 for a cut and blow dry, and £75 for highlights. Dry and wet cut price AND the cut and blow dry has tripled, and the highlights price has doubled.

For this reason, I will never set foot in a hairdressers again. We have 3 in my little town, and they are all expensive. I would need to go 20+ miles for cheaper prices. I CBA to do that. Plus, I will be spending more on bastard petrol!

I do it myself now. Cutting AND dying. (And it looks fine!)

NewDogOwner · 14/10/2023 18:09

Your hair is pretty but it doesn't look like balayage or anything like the first picture.

oksothisisusnow · 14/10/2023 18:10

AnneValentine · 14/10/2023 16:46

It’s cheap for Balyage but what you have doesn’t look like balyage. I would wash and style as normal. I think you’re going to be cross.

I'm sorry to say, but I agree with the poster above.
There's a bit where the blonde starts that looks a bit chunky. It should be very subtle where your natural colour and the blonde meet for bayalage.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 14/10/2023 18:11

If that included cut and blow dry £100 is extremely fair!!

stayathomer · 14/10/2023 18:20

I know you don’t want to hear this (kind of!) but looks gorgeous op!!!

Nina1013 · 14/10/2023 18:20

You only get balayage every 6 months minimum. Can be up to 9/12. You’ll just get a root touch up in between.

That’s the joy of it - cheap maintenance!

Lordofmyflies · 14/10/2023 18:20

It looks lovely OP. Its £150 for Balayage in the SW.

Isitautumnyet23 · 14/10/2023 18:21

OMG at of some of the prices on this thread! 😱 How does anyone afford to get their hair done (and im saying that from a decent middle income family). I have a home hairdresser who charges £60 for a cut and highlights. I dry my own (and no cup of tea made for me) but its its worth the saving reading this thread. I think your hair looks lovely and £100 is probably right for a Salon these days.

Isitautumnyet23 · 14/10/2023 18:25

newYear10 · 14/10/2023 17:39

That is about 350 where I am so you got a steal.

Omg! That is crazy! What part of the country?

Lose10kyesterday · 14/10/2023 18:28

I think your hair looks lovely, I prefer it to what you wanted, but of course, you wanted a darker colour! Not sure if you've got balayage or highlights, though, not being an expert. I live abroad and pay a lot more for just highlights on short hair, I think you got a really good deal!

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 14/10/2023 18:32

Did you not know the price BEFORE the hairdresser started? That's what i find a bit weird.
