To people not dress their babies in Babygrows anymore?

I have a 6 month old, and from day one he's mostly been wearing babygrows. I've noticed when out and about, and at baby groups etc it's very rare to see this on others. All other babies seem to be dressed in outfits of some kind.

I had a nurse mention to me a little while ago how cute my baby looked in a babygrow. I thought it was a weird comment at the time as assumed this was how all babies dressed. I've had other comments about it too.

Is there a reason people don't use Babygrows? They just seem like the easiest choice for me, less faff. Plus they're cute and seem the most comfortable thing to them to wear.

I did dress my toddler in babygros sometimes when he was little but it did depend on the weather and what we were doing.

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 11/10/2023 20:30

Little legging/vest/top combos are ok too

Newborn scrunch somehow needs a baby grow though!

genesis92 · 11/10/2023 20:31

I clearly need to up my game and dress my baby in more outfits.

Rather that than those little business-babies in short sleeved shirts like they're at the Wernham Hogg AGM after party.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 11/10/2023 20:31

DD is 5 months and I still use babygrows unless it's a special occasion. I think I only stopped using them with DS (now 9) when he started walking at 1yo

InTheRainOnATrain · 11/10/2023 20:32

They’re a complete pain. Good for bedtime as they won’t ride up in their sleep sack and they shouldn’t need a change in it. But during the day then leggings/joggers with a vest underneath are so much easier.

HarperMae · 11/10/2023 20:32

I thought babygros were pjs

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 11/10/2023 20:35

I carried Dd in a sling 22 years ago and babygros are no good for that, their toes get squashed.
There's also plenty of soft, comfy outfits for babies too.

Aren't leggings more of a faff though? Cause you need to remove them entirely to change nappy and then put them on again, leg by leg. Plus you then need to add socks which almost always fall off.

I've tried my baby in t shirts and dungarees etc, but everything rides up and it just seems much more uncomfortable for him

‘Babygros are pyjamas and should not be worn by any self-respecting baby in the daytime or outside the house’ is practically a political position for some on here.

I have a 9 month old and he pretty much exclusively wore babygrows for about the first 2
months. Since then he’s worn clothes, soft, stretchy materials like leggings, jersey dungarees, matching ‘sets’ etc. I just feel it sets us up for the day if we are both ‘dressed.’

He still has babygrows for bed, mainly because he looks so stinking cute 😏

Same here!

Op aside from appearances, I prefer to have him in leggings with feet out in the daytime as I read this is better for helping him learn to crawl and stand- both so his feet can feel around and also as apparently babygrows cause a pull around the shoulders when they make a crawling motion with their legs which discourages or confuses them. I'm not an expert so that could be fake news started by a baby clothes company but I listened!

I have a 6 month old girl. She wears babygrows to bed but not during the day.

During the day she wears outfits, leggings, dresses, rompers. We have so many lovely outfits it would be such a waste to be in a babygrow all the time.

menopausalmare · 11/10/2023 20:38

Babygros are quite annoying at 3am when your hands stop working and you can't do up 12 poppers in the dark.

pinksheetss · 11/10/2023 20:40

My daughter was mainly babygrows, however if we were going out the house then I'd definitely have put an outfit on her. 1. Because it was good to both get put together and 2. You are gifted soooo many clothes and they don't last long in size so any opportunity you get to show them off you do it

I'd feel that way much more if I had a girl probably. There's more exciting outfit options

My youngest is four and he and all my kids mostly wore baby grows exclusively for the first 6 months. I'd say 6-12 months a mix of baby grows and comfy clothes like soft leggings and tops.

I love babies in baby grows and was always sad when mine went into 2 piece pyjamas and "daytime" outfits.

SmiggleBag · 11/10/2023 20:41

Zip up babygros are my absolute favourites. DS (7 months) is always in a babygro at home and sometimes out and and about. I've never understood dressing babies like little adults.

True. I’m always glad I’ve had girls as the boys outfits are not inspiring 😅

Banrion · 11/10/2023 20:42

I was like you. I didn't realise people didn't dress babies in babygros anymore. I loved them. In winter a babygro with a little cardigan over it. But the amount of people who said to baby oh I see you stayed in your pyjamas today. I used to be really confused.

You just pull them down to the knees. Why would you need to take them off? Unless you’re using nappy pants but they’re not helpful until they’re standing up. You can get footed leggings too to get around the socks- H&M do great ones. With girls also tights and a jumper dress are easy until they start crawling. But babygrows, the legs have to properly come out. And then poppers!! The worst invention ever.

FelicityFlops · 11/10/2023 20:42

Goodness me. when I had my children, babygros were considered frightfully common and not awfully good for the child.

Cowlover89 · 11/10/2023 20:42

My son still wears them at 18 months

QforCucumber · 11/10/2023 20:42

Both my boys (now 7 and 3) exclusively wore sleep suits all day and night until at least 6 months old. Look back at photos and they’re just bloody adorable in them! 3 year old ds2 has never yet worn jeans only leggings and joggers so the Op on that other thread would definitely dislike my cheapness haha

Bumbers · 11/10/2023 20:42

Babygrows are so much easier! Mine wear them day and night until starting nursery at a bit over 12 months. An outfit for a special occasion, yes, but day to day, I just find them loads easier. Why make extra work!?

PurBal · 11/10/2023 20:43

DS lives in babygrows at home but if I put him in an outfit it’s because I’m seeing people. I always change DS for bed as part of his routine (4mo) but it might be from one babygrows to another. Always put them in vest and trousers for vaccines though, then you don’t have to undress them.
