To people not dress their babies in Babygrows anymore?

I have a 6 month old, and from day one he's mostly been wearing babygrows. I've noticed when out and about, and at baby groups etc it's very rare to see this on others. All other babies seem to be dressed in outfits of some kind.

I had a nurse mention to me a little while ago how cute my baby looked in a babygrow. I thought it was a weird comment at the time as assumed this was how all babies dressed. I've had other comments about it too.

Is there a reason people don't use Babygrows? They just seem like the easiest choice for me, less faff. Plus they're cute and seem the most comfortable thing to them to wear.

I dressed my babies in babygrows for bed so always think of them as pyjamas. I put other comfy clothes on the daytime from day one. I think it’s fine to use them in the day if that’s what you find easiest but I just found it easier to whip off a pair of leggings/joggers to do nappy changes.

Goldbar · 12/10/2023 20:49

I used babygrows for both my babies until they could sit up independently. There is no point imo in dressing a baby who is just going to be rolling about and lolluping on the ground in an actual outfit. Footless and shortie ones for warm weather. When they can sit up and crawl, I find that (comfortable) outfits are easier for them to move about in and less slipping and sliding.

But each to their own.

I think its lovely and like you with DD1 (winter baby) kept her in babygrows in the day aswell as the night for the best part of 6mths.DD1 was a spring baby so she wore them for less time as it got warmer, but still kept her in them as long as possible....they look so cute and are lovely and cosy. Some of the outfits are too but others just look so uncomfortable and too grown up for a baby.

Those of you struggling with poppers.... zip onsies all the way! They are the only ones I use (especially as now on DC2). Honestly, so so easy.

Sinthie · 12/10/2023 21:29

They are adorable and should be worn for as long as possible.

Notunusal · 12/10/2023 21:39

I have 5 DC and not one of them have worn a babygro in the daytime after leaving the maternity ward, imo they are just meant for nighttime, it’s so much hassle getting their little legs out of them for a nappy change…..

I see what PP are saying about babies are looking like they are wearing adult clothes but there are so many adorable clothes for boys and girls.

AvengedQuince · 12/10/2023 21:41

I used babygrows for six months then joggers or comfortable baby jeans over the legless suits. DS needed proper bottoms once crawling and climbing. Jeans were actually good as he was on his knees so much, across grass, concrete, in playgrounds.

Noticed this too, when my baby was still in sleepsuits other babies were in jeans, tracksuits, dresses, sometimes even trainers. They couldn’t even hold their heads up and they were being dressed like mini adults 😂nothing wrong with it I guess but I did feel like the only one who had a baby dressed like a baby

Yep none walking babies look daft in trainers. My boy is 18 months I miss the baby grow days !

jolaylasofia · 12/10/2023 21:47

my boy is nearly 2 and he's in the last size of baby grow available now (18-24 months) and nearly too small. My boy has always worn them. Until about 4/5 months was in them throughout day and night but since then he's worn them for bed. Most comfortable, cosy and cute outfit and am so so sad i won't see him in them for much longer

AvengedQuince · 12/10/2023 21:48

DS had the soft leather shoes before he was walking, barefoot is fine when it's warm enough but crawling, cruising, climbing outside in socks looks wrong to me.

EsmeSusanOgg · 12/10/2023 21:57

Another vote for baby grows! They're easy, cute, and comfortable.

Brexile · 12/10/2023 21:58

I had DS fairly young and assumed babies still wore what they had done when me and my brothers were babies in the 70s and early 80s: babygros and little knitted cardigans. He was the only baby dressed like this at the clinic or baby groups, and the jeans type outfits that the other baby boys wore were cut narrow in the hips for disposable nappies, when I used old style cotton terries. Everyone thought I was mad. That was 22 years ago now and it doesn't sound much different now, except that reusable nappies made a comeback.

I'm looking on next and Amazon can get the footless ones in size 2-3 :)

True, mine had the cruising soft shoes from about 7 months . I meant tiny babies in trainers, but still each to there own.

A lot of them now have 2 coloured poppers to match uo so it's very hard to go wrong. M&s ones do anyway

Yeah, I still used to muck those up regularly as well!

threatmatrix · 12/10/2023 23:21

Baby grows are the best, comfy and easy. People dress their babies up for other people to look at

Blueink · 12/10/2023 23:24

I don’t think it matters, but agree it is unusual to see a baby in baby grow when out and about. More typically used at night or being at home.

I only know one Mum who dressed their baby in baby grow all the time.

I used the popper vests going out in the summer, but found baby grows fiddly, too many poppers. I rarely used them at all and preferred baby nightgowns as elasticated and easier for night changes.

You can get pull on leggings with feet in which I think are easier. I don’t think anything wrong with baby jeans as long as they are soft!

Mynameispaige · 12/10/2023 23:57

I got in trouble with social because apparently i never dress my child during the day (always put a clean babygrow on him when not leaving the house as i dont get dressed) i was absolutely livid they even suggested that.

Mumof1xxxx · 13/10/2023 05:11

I have a 3 month old and other than the occasional jumpsuit she only wears baby grows, so much easier and comfier for daytime naps

bungletru · 13/10/2023 05:36

I have a 10mo and still put him in baby grows, but not for when we go out due to ease of access to change nappy etc.
I think they’re the cutest and not ready for him to not be a baby yet😂

RecklessBlackberries · 13/10/2023 08:00

Our son was in sleepsuits constantly until he was about three months old. After that, it depended what we were up to. He wore proper clothes if we were meeting people, sleepsuits if it was just a quick trip.

He felt like a "real person" rather than a passive tiny baby so it seemed odd to have him in sleepwear. He was in baby appropriate clothes (bodysuits, leggings, soft dungarees with the crotch poppers) though until he started walking regularly and switched to jeans, joggers and normal shirts.

FluffyBenji23 · 13/10/2023 08:46

My grandson was a terrible sleeper! He was born in lockdown and we all lived together for a while. My daughter loved babygrows but started putting him in outfits (mainly gifted) for the day to try and differentiate between day and night time!

riotlady · 13/10/2023 09:23

Babygros all the way here, they’re so cute! Especially with a lovely cardigan on top. DD wore them til she was a bit more mobile at 5/6 months, DS is still in his as 2 months. We have been gifted a few different outfits though so I tend to get them out for baby groups and family gatherings.

Am amazed about the sling/babygrow comments - I've been specifically avoiding her wearing footless things when we go out in the sling, otherwise we come back every time with one or no socks! I've never noticed her feet being squished. I do agree leggings are easier for changes but my baby just can't keep a sock on!
