To not want my 3 year old to come out of nursery telling me that Jesus died on the cross but came alive later?

DS3 is 3 and goes to a nursery affiliated to the local church school. However, it is a nursery for all local schools, not just the church one. Even if he was going to the church school I would still think 3 is a bit young for this, but he is going to a different school. Do I just bite my tongue when he announces with absolute certainty what the Easter story is?

Good for you, making that retraction Abbey.

QuintessentialShadow · 08/03/2008 17:36

oh, this one has passed 200 posts.

S1ur · 08/03/2008 17:37

Yes, that's why I posted link to challenge at post 200.

scottishmummy · 08/03/2008 17:44

eh what's this religion at a nursery affiliated to the local church school -well who'd have thought it why did you send ds there if it causes you such consternation?

Greyriverside · 08/03/2008 18:19

AbbeyA, thanks, and we can agree to disagree on the other part.

Now if you can only tell me how I can actually eat any of these eggs without getting fat(ter) I'll be your friend for life!

MadamePlatypus · 08/03/2008 18:49

If the OP lives in a place like me, around 50% of the schools in both our's and the neighbouring council's areas are church schools. In some pockets, there is no alternative to the local church school, unless you want to trek to the school with spare places on the other side of the borough. At many schools, you will not get a place by simply being Christian, you must regularly attend the relevant church, whether or not you agree with that churches beliefs (and as far as I understand it, the CofE has plenty to argue about).

I am not surprised that a Christian school teaches the story of the resurrection. However, there could be plenty of reasons that the OP has sent her child to this school - if it were me it would be lack of any alternative.

I think it is a good argument for explaining to children why we celebrate Easter. I feel a bit miffed to have reached my age (with considerable church teaching)to find that no one had ever mentioned that the church had pinched the pagan date!
Can't help you on the egg/fatness front-I just begin to get trim again from Christmas when I get back to square one with Easter! Chocolate is a big weakness on my part!

plumandolive · 10/03/2008 15:49

What happens if you pass 200 posts/ Do you win an easter egg?

S1ur · 10/03/2008 15:54

I'll clarify Plum.

Last week for a while there was a challenge set for any to take up, which included trying to start a thread that would receive at least 200 posts.

This thread was probably not part of that challenge but even if it started that way it has led to a varied and interesting discussion so all is good.

People were also posted links to the bat as part of the challenge. I linked here to discretely point out that this thread had reached 200.

I repeat. This thread was probably nothing to do with any challenge but if it was it doesn't matter because it was a good debate and that's a worthwhile part of mn.

plumandolive · 10/03/2008 16:40

thanks slur.
so did lots of others get to 200?

plumandolive · 10/03/2008 16:40

why the gorgeous bat?

S1ur · 10/03/2008 16:42

No clue! The only one I know was started for the challenge was the 'rhyme about a fellow mner' - that went over 200 and was very funny along the way.

S1ur · 10/03/2008 16:50

That is just a laugh. He crops up on a seemingly innocent/helpful link. It is a MN tradition to sneak him into posts to catch posters unawares.

But hasn't been used much of late... until last week when he was everywhere!!!

plumandolive · 10/03/2008 17:51

Thanks Slur for filling me in. I don't go on mn all the time, have a rush and then a lull..no time...

Bluestocking · 12/03/2008 20:22

I haven't read every post but had the same experience today. DS (nearly 4) told me on the way home that "the soldiers killed baby Jesus on the cross because of the hot cross buns". I gave him a "that's interesting" type reply and rang the nursery, which is at my workplace and is not affiliated to a church. It transpires that one of DS's classmates (naturally, the nursery director couldn't tell me who) has been taking every opportunity to tell everyone who will listen the Easter story, in very gory detail. Now if people want to believe this crap that is their look-out but HOW DARE THEY then send their indoctrinated children to a non-religious nursery. I am really, really angry. A three year old does not need to hear this. I had hoped to be able to teach my child the stories about the seasonal festivals - pagan, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, etc - as we go along, in an age-appropriate way, and not have vile, violent, sadistic nonsense poured into his ears by one of his classmates.
