Collective Punishment - No water, no food, no medicines

Lieblingsessen · 09/10/2023 19:19

I do not condone whatsoever what the Hamas attacks on civilians in Israel or their ideology

But surely, Israel laying siege to Gaza, preventing innocent civilians from accessing water, food, medicines, electricity for hospital equipment, is not justifiable. To collectively punish civilians who have no control over what Hamas or their government does. This is medieval.

Where is the outcry on the mainstream media about this? Surely it is not being anti-semitic to call out Israel, that retaliation is not unexpected, but collective punishment is horrendous.

Israel shouldn't have any condition to treating Palestinians with dignity and according to international laws

If those they're now at war with were a properly constituted, responsible leadership I'd agree completely, but unfortunately with Hamas being what they are that's just not realistic

At its simplest, they don't get to call for the destruction of an entire nation and its people and then expect those they're targeting to "play nice"

As a very wise poster said upthread, this won't end until Palestine has leaders who value their own peoples' lives more than their deaths, which is why Hamas have to go

You continuously forget to mention Israel's treatment of Palestinians (I swear they are not just a concept we made up to be anti semites. Palestinians exist!) outside of Gaza. Hamas is no justification for that so Israel must stop. Today.

Maireas · 10/10/2023 18:00

The Egyptians have a border with Gaza.
Why don't they open the border and help them?

BigBillyButterBollocks · 10/10/2023 18:03

AbraKedavra · 10/10/2023 17:35

Are you thick or what?

Israeli Arabs are Israeli citizens with equal rights. Got that? Equal rights. Equal.

Gazaans are not Israeli citizens and never were. Therefore they haven't got automatic rights of movement, work etc in Israel.

It's really not that complicated.

"Israeli Arabs are Israeli citizens with equal rights.".

No. They don't. You can't expect anyone to take you seriously if you don't admit that.

Maireas · 10/10/2023 18:04

In fact, the Egyptians occupied Gaza until 1967, didn't they? It gets confusing with all the border changes because of wars and Accords.

It was open. It was bombed by Israel. As was the convoy of humanitary help. As was the "safe" route Gazaans were supposed to take to flee. As were the "safe" spaces Gazaans were supposed to hide in.

They are being exterminated like the parasite Israel always tought they were, as we speak.

Stop pretending to be naive.

How come there's a Muslim Arab Israeli who is on the Supreme Court in Israel? Surely that must indicate equal opportunities?.

There's no need to be offensive or personal.
Good grief it's surely possible to have a discussion.

Well of course they haven't. A great big wall surrounds them. Makes even going to work for the day in Israel difficult.

Is that why it is called an open air prison?

AUserNameIsNot · 10/10/2023 18:12

For a human rights organisation like Btselem to not find their words when there is rape in the streets, when babies were decapitated in their beds, when mothers were set on fire and burned alive: there is no forgiveness and there is no forgetting. This is what human rights the EU cash buys: the new human right to be shielded from natural consequences.

Do you not understand the magnitude of what has occurred here?

The question on this thread is not posed correctly.

How could we forgive ourselves we this time for sending water, some of which will reach these evil men? How could we dishonour the parents slaughtered with their children and send the murderers food and electricity before they have even been buried? How can you ask this from us in a time like this?

They have to get permission to get sick children out of Gaza to get treatment they can't there because of the blocade. Some die waiting.

But they are free huh?

Short answer because the border crossing at Rafah and the road from Gaza to Rafah keep being bombed and made in accessible/dangerous to the large groups of refugees seen in the area

IDF have also threatened to bomb Egyptian trucks carrying aid

Plus Egypt isn't terribly keen to import any more Hamas terrorists [they've had problems before] or be faced with a huge no of refugees - again

You know what, after seeing this, I don't care if not a single tree remains standing in Gaza.

But Israeli started the apartheid decades ago? Way before Hamas?

Remind me again, which side agreed to the original division of land and which side said, no fuck off it's all or nothing and we'll fight you for it?

In any case that's largely irrelevant. We're not in 1948, or 1974, or 2013 and there will never be peace while Hamas lead Gaza.

If the Palestinians remove them and install a government willing to negotiate and Israel then refuse to lift restrictions, return land, whatever, then you can justifiably say they're in the wrong. But while keep a hostile leadership you can't expect Israel to be accommodating.

Speaking of which I genuinely don't understand is why there's an expectation for Israel to share resources, provide energy, water, medication, facilitate the movement of people between Israel and Gaza, etc., when a) they're hostile to each other and b) they're considered by their supporters to be different states. It's like demanding Russia supply Ukraine with fuel, food and medicines and a completely stupid thing to demand.

It's not as if all those things couldn't be brought in via Egypt, except of course Egypt also recognise Hamas to be a terrorist organisation, know they'd only use those resources to continue their war, and don't want to help support that.

So as I said the solution to this all starts with the removal of Hamas.

Why aren't they treated in Egypt? And before someone starts the bombed border crap again, Gaza has been autonomous since 2005. The border with Egypt has not been closed since 2005. It has been open apart from the last 72 hours.

Why do they not get 'permission' from Egypt, their neighbour?

Maireas · 10/10/2023 18:20

That's a child's room. (Sorry if that's obvious, I'm in shock).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/10/2023 18:20

You continuously forget to mention Israel's treatment of Palestinians

Mistaken again I'm afraid, BigBillyButterBollocks; I've mentioned it often, though admittedly not in that last post, and also said how much I disagree with some of the Israeli regime's actions

However none of that changes the basic position, which is that one is a properly constituted government with a long history of pushing for negotiations, and the other are a bunch of terrorists whose long-stated policy is the destruction of an entire land and its people

By the chilling tone on her posts, I can guess the answer to your question.

BigBillyButterBollocks · 10/10/2023 18:23

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/10/2023 17:39

You're correct, @VisaWoes; the last election was indeed in 2006, perhaps because Hamas - like so many terrorist groups - are no more concerned about the rights of their electorate than they are about any other human rights

Without an election it's not easy to say just how many Palestinians now support them, though reports suggest the numbers are much higher than might be hoped. That is of course a matter for the people themselves, but it would be worth them remembering that if you facilitate terrorism then you take the consequences

You've got to be able to see it.

"If you facilitate Israel's treatment of Plaestinians, you take the consequences"? Of course that is not an acceptable thinflg to say. One way or another.

The hate speech against Palestinians is gross really. It is not surprising considering how they are treated in Israel. But it is gross.

SinkingSilently · 10/10/2023 18:25

I don’t see how anyone can kill children, and live with themselves but also think that their god will be ok with that. It blows my mind.
