So nothing biblical.

For me today it was ASDA, 1pm on a Sunday, event going on nearby so huge amount of traffic to get in, even longer queues inside, screaming kids, adults barging by you, having to queue for customer service.

Anything else would include cave diving, pot holing or being on a submarine.

I have a similar memory of a childhood caravan holiday with my aunt, it was on farmland near the beach, but we tried a caravan holiday some years ago and never again. Awful experience and people.

I've been on those caravan club tourer meet-ups, if that makes sense to anyone, and those were fine.

I'd rather go camping, and I'm not a big camping fan at my age, preferring a hotel.

Vgbeat · 10/10/2023 21:49

32 kids playing recorder every week

TheaBrandt · 10/10/2023 21:49

Helena so funny 😁😁

Having to do an important thing trying to do it but that thing is impossible then getting into trouble for not doing it. Ie “validate your ticket” on Italian trains. Genuinely no way of doing this despite looking repeatedly - no one to ask. Then every ticket inspector telling me off for not doing it. It was so frustrating.

Soft play, ikea - managed to dodge both thankfully (apart from one trip to each)

Noname63 · 10/10/2023 22:10

Attending a work course and having to participate in role play.

Museya15 · 10/10/2023 22:16

Benidorm.

There are lots of things I could choose, but I'm going to go with Secret Santa. My husband's family has just started to organise their annual Hell. There really is nothing worse.

Catusrusty · 10/10/2023 22:19

Las Vegas and Dubai.

Both too hot, bloody awful and utterly artificial.

JaneyGee · 10/10/2023 22:22

I am happiest on a bright, sunny, cold day, somewhere quiet and empty. So the opposite of that would be hell. I'm an introvert and need a of a lot of silence and space.

Many people really do live what I'd consider a hellish life. I have a friend who is trapped on a vile new build estate. The developers have jammed together far too many houses and flats, and there are just too many people on top of one another. Her next door neighbours are loud and horrible, and often wake her up at night. Also, boy racers fly round the roads making a racket. Being trapped in a flat, or renting a box room, on that estate, with nightmare neighbours and a never-ending heatwave...that would be hell for me.

Even worse would be some kind of Communist state, in which the population has exploded and we're all crammed into worker communes, where we have to eat together, use communal launderettes, etc, in order "foster a sense of community." There is no more countryside, just endless housing estates. And it's impossible to be alone. Plus it's boiling hot all the time! Pure torture.

Being stuck on a coach where they called bingo numbers the whole journey. It happened, and yes it was hell.
Other things would be being made to listen to karaoke/kids screaming or being trapped anywhere (tube, motorway closure, broken lift).

ToWhitToWhoo · 10/10/2023 22:32

Having to use a steep winding staircase with no handrail like some of the staircases in 'beautiful historic buildings'; yes, I'm sure they are beautiful and historic and all that, but, as I said in my other post, I have co-ordination difficulties, and I have NO desire to fall and break my neck.

Have you ever seen the film 'Vivarium'?

All the new build estates that I walk through remind me SO much of this horror movie!

My idea of Hell On Earth ....

Bicester Village - a Designer Outlet shopping village in Oxfordshire! I expect that other 'designer outlet shopping villages' are much the same - full of crowds of people who find it 'fun' to have to actually queue to get in to these pretentious shops where they will buy still-ridiculously-priced 'stuff' that is often last season or not even current 'stuff'!
I lasted about 10 minutes and turned round and left.
Seventh circle of Hell!!!

Agree about Bicester Village - went once and never again- who can afford all that stuff, abd even if they can, who wants it that much?

Absolutely with you on the being trapped, especially a lift. Claustrophobia has gradually set in since mid-30s and the thought of that is actually quite frightening.

More recently though was a concert full of screaming teeny boppers. I’m really not made for that.

Climbing great big hills. No joy at all. And why anyone would want to climb Everest is beyond me!

sometimes its the challenge of being able to be part of the crowd to say i achieved x etc

Carouselfish · 11/10/2023 00:34

Baby groups with messy play. All the mothers know each other already, most of the children have hacking coughs and only my child gets fully submerged in the slime/water and eats handfuls of the dry pasta/rice crispies.

Wellwellwellwallace · 11/10/2023 08:08

Potholing

Harls1969 · 11/10/2023 08:24

Hen dos, work parties/nights out, team building, weddings. Basically any social get togethers involving more than a handful of people, especially with forced fun. Oh and audience participation

IDontWantTheWorldToSeeMe · 11/10/2023 09:04

@WhichOfThePickwickTripletsDidIt Love the name and have now got the song going on in my head 😁😁😁

Moonlightdust · 11/10/2023 09:07

My absolute idea of hell is living in an oppressed country with barbaric regimes. People moan about the UK but truly have no idea what life is like in some parts of the world.
