This reminded me also of what happened to Duffy (the singer). In her case it actually happenwd.
Amidst all the NAMALT nonsense yesterday it made made me think that this really isn't something that women do.

Gavin Plumb sentenced to 3 concurrent life sentences with a minimum term of 15 years before parole.

The victim impact statement was kept private as it detailed some of his plans and was deemed too distressing/ possibly an offence to read out.

Previous victim of him says lack of previous punishment encouraged him

'Lack of punishment encouraged man to plot Holly Willoughby's murder'

A previous victim of Gavin Plumb, who has remained anonymous, say her encounter with him left her "frozen and scared"

Good sentence but not good enough in my book. I’d have thrown the key in middle of the ocean.
I can’t believe for his first offence he got a famous suspended sentence.
I hope he’s not put in protection and that he’s made to face the tough guys who certainly don’t take kindly to that horrible R word and even threats to carry out such vulgarity. He’s spent years plotting and terrifying women so let’s see how big he is now.

PassingStranger · 12/07/2024 14:08

State of it. Horrible creature.

Lillly1 · 12/07/2024 15:07

Can someone explain why he has been sentenced to life, when other men who have actually carried out the acts, don't get life? Yes he plotted the despicable acts but in reality, would he have ever been able to do it? And - ultimately - he didn't do them. Whereas others who carry out much worse, get say 15 years?

Edit to make clear - I am not for one second saying he shouldn't have got life - I am just a bit confused that it seems a high tariff compared to some other sentences for murder etc?

Arconialiving · 12/07/2024 15:10

I agree @Lillly1 - those other sentences should be much higher as he deserves his sentence but I don't understand either.

TurtleTackle · 12/07/2024 15:14

I am also baffled why he got life for this.
Just because Holly is a "celebrity" and in the public eye.
YES he deserved a sentence, of course but people that actually commit these type of crimes don't get this length of sentence

AND to add insult to injury he has previous for this and got SUSPENDED sentences!!! It's like "normal" people don't get justice. Disgusting.

Aretheautumnleavesoutyet · 12/07/2024 15:15

The sentencing is very odd-paedos don’t even get that do they?!

OP posts:
TurtleTackle · 12/07/2024 15:18

He even said ( which is true) due to his size he obviously wouldn't be able to climb the wall/fence to even get over!
I just can't get over the fact he got LIFE for an attempted act not an actual act.
YES he deserves a sentence, he deserves a harsh punishment but it is a very bizarre sentence when drug dealers, rapists, peados who absolutely RUIN lives get less.
It's insulting

sonofrageandlove · 12/07/2024 15:25

He is obviously a very dangerous man. We haven’t been privy to all the evidence as a large chunk of it was too distressing for the press to report.
if the judge, having seen all the evidence, feels it’s appropriate to jail him for three life terms then that’s the correct decision. Why would we question such a sick individual being locked up for so long?
Im more angry for the four young women who were threatened by this beast previously and saw him get away with a suspended sentence and then 23 months or whatever it was for kidnapping 2 teenagers. They could have stopped him much earlier. He is a threat to all women.

TurtleTackle · 12/07/2024 15:27

I did say that up thread about the suspended sentences,
It was clear he was a danger to women then.

Edited

He was planning murder, so what do you mean when you say "other men who have actually carried out the acts, don't get life?"

Murderers do get life.

sonofrageandlove · 12/07/2024 15:48

Don’t forget about his female neighbour, who he discussed using ‘as practice’ prior to holly

murasaki · 12/07/2024 15:49

I suspect it's so they can haul him back in on a breach later. Previously this would have been an IPP as he's clearly a recidivist.

Lillly1 · 12/07/2024 16:12

Murderers get life, yes.

Rapists don't, torturers don't, sexual abusers don't, manslaughter doesn't, killing three on a motorway while drunk and speeding doesn't get you life, yet planning an act gets life?

LunaNorth · 12/07/2024 16:16

I must admit, I thought the same. Disgusting creature though he is, he didn’t actually do the things he threatened, yet when he did actually approach and harm women, he got a suspended sentence?

Odd.

Balloonhearts · 12/07/2024 16:29

I used to work with him. He always did have something wired wrong in his brain. Doesn't surprise me in the least.

It must have been freaky as hell seeing him nicked.

Was he actually still working as a security guard after his earlier convictions?

Planning (with intent to actually execute) a murder is more deserving of a life sentence than manslaughter (which by definition is accidental), in my view.

I agree about rapists etc. - they all deserve more severe sentencing than they currently get.

My feelings exactly. Mere mortals wouldn't get the same justice as precious Holly.

This, basically. If an average MNetter was the target, the sentence would be a fraction of this, assuming the police had the energy to present a case to the CPS in the first place.

IClaudine · 13/07/2024 09:10

What an odd (and unpleasant) thread. I don't think there are special sentencing guidelines for crimes against Holly Willoughby?

This man is a danger to all women. It is a good thing he got a long sentence. It isn't HW's fault that others get more lenient sentences or that the justice system got it wrong when this creep was tried before.

Luciansmum6 · 13/07/2024 10:26

The reason he got life is because he has attempted this on other victims several times- two of whom were only 16. The only reason he hasn’t been successful is because of his incompetency- would you take the risk with your own child? He also bought the items needed. I’m sorry but none of you commenting are judges and I’m certain the judge would not risk their reputation and career by ignoring guidelines to just make up a special sentence for holly willoughby. Also in the uk we know life does not mean life.
I bet all you complaining are just the same people who joined in the trolling for queuegate. Pathetic.
