Headlice infestation & wedding day

Foxyfoxyfox · 05/10/2023 12:44

My wedding is a week away. I’m having my hair professionally styled on the day. Just found lots of headlice in my DD’s hair. Checked mine and I have lots too. Neither of us have been itchy. I have lots of thick long hair. Even if I can get all the lice I’m never going to get all the eggs out before my wedding. AIBU to cancel the stylist? I don’t think I can live with the shame of her finding any

Honestly the only thing that worked for us was using conditioner and a nitty gritty comb. Do it daily if you have to. You’ll soon get used to spotting the eggs.

MumblesParty · 05/10/2023 13:17

You can fix this in a week.
Use the treatment shampoo, and also use conditioner and comb through every night with a nitty gritty comb (it’s the best by miles). If you do that there won’t be any visible ones left in a week. You’ll still need to continue treatment afterwards, but nothing will be visible on your wedding day.

Another vote for hedrin once, I think the overnight one you need to repeat after a week. Do it immediately as I find takes a few washes to get hair back to normal after use. Then nitty gritty to be sure. Good luck drive s me mad.

LaLaLouella · 05/10/2023 13:23

Don't mess about with 'natural, kind treatments' - if you've only got a week then go in with the strong chemicals.

I used this stuff when we had a deadline!

australian-bodycare.uk/products/anti-lice?

Get the treatment and the hair rinse - took one treatment with this stuff and then lots of combing over the following days. Ours were gone in under a week.

Marblessolveeverything · 05/10/2023 13:26

There are places that professionally zap them. I would be tempted to spend the money to have peace of mind.

prettygreenteacup · 05/10/2023 13:27

I just used Full Marks Solution on my DC at the weekend, effective for combing out easily and kills them off in 5 minutes. You'll be fine for a weeks time!

YukoandHiro · 05/10/2023 13:27

Don't cancel. Do Hedrin Once today and again the night before the styling, and do a full conditioning comb every day between

allhellcantstopusnow · 05/10/2023 13:32

Treat them. Email stylist to say what's happened and that you've treated. Offer to provide your own brushes etc.

Bankholidayboredom23 · 05/10/2023 13:32

The conditioner trick/cream based treatments don't work for the long thick hair in my family, they dry before you get far and then the comb sticks rather than slides. We have to use oil based nit products and usually need a whole bottle not just a quarter or whatever the instructions say. Good luck. The last outbreak in our house took about 2 weeks to get rid of but previous bouts only needed one treatment

Alldressedup · 05/10/2023 13:32

You’ll be fine. Definitely get some Hedrin or Lyclear on. Then follow up with conditioner and a nitty gritty for the next few days to make sure. A few years ago all the family got head lice and I did this and got rid of them pretty easily. In fact I do remember the overnight hair treatment left all our hair looking like we had had an intense conditioning treatment. Always a silver lining!! Good luck.

vapesareforsnakes · 05/10/2023 13:34

You will get rid of them in a week honestly Op. Lots of great suggestions here.

HelpaFriend85 · 05/10/2023 13:25

do you live near any of these clinics?

https://hairforceclinics.com/

I was going to recommend this too.

But remember: you MUST treat the whole family.

2jacqi · 05/10/2023 13:49

you might need to get someone to help you with this like mother or sister. good nit comb and the shampoo/lotion stuff
every night use the comb

Thewizardbinbag · 05/10/2023 13:52

Just get combing! Use whatever you like best in your hair and get combing. Hot wash all bedding and towels and vacuum everywhere. Then repeat! You’ll be fine for next week.

Her fiancé is probably the best option to help, since they probably live in the same house. Why would it need to be a woman?

Helenloveslee4eva · 05/10/2023 13:53

Condition and comb daily. It is entirely possible to clear them completely

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 05/10/2023 13:54

Agree with pp re conditioner and nitty gritty - repeat for a few days and you’ll be fine & your hair will be so soft!!

silverbubbles · 05/10/2023 13:59

Don't tell stylist. A week is plenty of time to get rid of them. First use a chemical and then conditioner and comb everyday.

If the odd egg remains on the big day I bet the stylist won't even notice.

Scoutabouttoo · 05/10/2023 13:59

Round here - London - theres a head lice clinic that removes all your lice and eggs in one go. You return a week later to catch any that were missed. Its called Hairforce. Google head lice clinic to see if there something in your area.

Pallisers · 05/10/2023 14:01

you can get rid of them in a week. I would definitely go to a nit nurse if they exist near you.

Otherwise conditioner and nitty gritty comb - for hours on both of you. Put on a movie and start combing. That night cover your hair in olive oil, put on a shower cap and sleep on a towel. the next morning rinse with a bit of dish soap. That will smother the lice but not the nits. So comb again. Basically comb every day for the next week.

HBGKC · 05/10/2023 14:03

Nitwits (spray on, leave for 30 mins, wash out) kills both lice and eggs, and is the only thing that's ever worked first time on my kids. Highly recommend it.

Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Sickoffamilydrama · 05/10/2023 14:05

Sadly I have become an expert in killing the fuckers headlice.

Get a silicone based treatment it suffocates them and they can't become immune to it. Unfortunately it's easy with thick hair to leave one egg and then the process starts again so no matter how good a job you think you've done retreat again after 4/5 days and again after that.

My Daughters have thick curly hair and conditioner and a comb was never enough even after an hour of combing.

Lorieandrews · 05/10/2023 14:07

My mate had them for months. It was devastating for them. She did the whole thing several times a day. Sadly it can sometimes be so hard to do

however don’t cancel the stylist. It will be fine I reckon. Over and over. Apple cider vinegar
