Headlice infestation & wedding day

Foxyfoxyfox · 05/10/2023 12:44

My wedding is a week away. I’m having my hair professionally styled on the day. Just found lots of headlice in my DD’s hair. Checked mine and I have lots too. Neither of us have been itchy. I have lots of thick long hair. Even if I can get all the lice I’m never going to get all the eggs out before my wedding. AIBU to cancel the stylist? I don’t think I can live with the shame of her finding any

Hearing now and 2 days time then tea tree oil, they hate that stuff and it will keep them out

SoftPillowAllNight · 05/10/2023 14:37

Get Hedrin Once - works like magic. Just a single treatment followed by thorough combing with nitty-gritty is good to get them all out.
Tried it several times for me & DDs, nothing else works as good as this.

rosydreams · 05/10/2023 14:38

its gonna suck but you can do it use Lyclear Creme Rinse from the pharmacy first leave it come like crazy wash it .second day use something like hedrin or full marks treat again comb like crazy .Next day use cheap conditioner lots of it and comb like crazy ,keep doing that every day till night before.Night before use hedrin or full marks again with comb like crazy

SoftPillowAllNight · 05/10/2023 14:38

Sorry repeat the treatment after 1 week just to get any leftovers. But the itching will be gone after the first treatment.

Ponderingwindow · 05/10/2023 14:43

in this situation, I would hire a lice removal professional. You need someone who does this all the time and will spend hours upon hours getting out every single nit in a single session.

you have to tell the stylist in advance. If you show up with lice the stylist will probably leave. I don’t know why people are saying they have “seen it all” so it is not a problem. Yes, stylists have seen it all, and they tend to have strict no lice policies because of it.

watchingsmurfs · 05/10/2023 14:43

I agree with PP, don’t faff about with conditioner. Straight in with Hedrin and you’ll be rid of them much more quickly.

getsomehelp · 05/10/2023 14:34

obviously you also need to change the bedding, towels, clothes (wash everything) , treat the sofa, car seats etc...
sorry

She’s got head lice, not fleas!

Gifgirl · 05/10/2023 12:47

Shit-load of conditioner, leave on for an hour, then comb thoroughly with nit comb before washing hair.

Good luck!

Plus a lice product to kill the fuckers

Treelesschristmas · 05/10/2023 14:52

Good luck op. The combing with the nitty gritty and a ton of condition to remove the nits after a treatment (ask your pharmacist what they are currently recommending) a few times over a week or two should sort it out. What a pain, terrible timing. Good luck.

PerspiringElizabeth · 05/10/2023 14:53

On the plus side you’ll have extra luscious hair from all the combing and conditioning

UndertheCedartree · 05/10/2023 14:53

I'd get Hedrin from the chemist and a nitty gritty and then use the Hedrin, then comb every night. I'm sure you'll get them out - we've all been there!

TSJ19 · 05/10/2023 14:54

Nitwits worked best for us. We had them really bad last summer.

crumblingschools · 05/10/2023 14:56

Let the stylist know. I have had to do the walk of shame at the hairdressers before when didn't know we had nits

Xiaoxiong · 05/10/2023 14:56

I agree with a week of intensive treatment - having had some unfortunate experience with this with multiple heads in the family needing treating at the same time!

I threw EVERYTHING at the problem and within 2 days wasn't getting any more nits or eggs on the comb (but kept combing for days, just in case).

Day 1: Hedrin Once/Full Marks/Nitwits, follow instructions on the box, comb comb comb with a Nitty Gritty comb.
Day 2, 3, 4 and 5: comb every night!
Day 6: Another treatment with your chemical of choice, leave to sit, comb out with conditioner
Day 7: Nit-free wedding day :-)

Readeatcake · 05/10/2023 12:51

You can have them all out in a week, I would go straight in with a professional treatment shampoo/spray to kill them all.

Yes natural treatments are better but you want something 100% effective right away.

Then do the wet combing with conditioner every night up until the wedding. If possible do it twice a night.

Exactly this. Attack first with the Hedrin and then conditioner every day afterwards. Hedrin killed my DSs invaders in one go - we conditioned for days afterwards and found nothing live. Within a few days he was clear.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/10/2023 15:00

Ditto to the Hedrin overnight one. Invest in some really cheap shower caps (Boots) to contain it.

Latenightreader · 05/10/2023 15:03

Does anyone else have a really itchy head after reading this thread?

I can’t suggest anything that hasn’t already been said. Best of luck OP - you can do this!

SaffronSpice · 05/10/2023 15:03

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2023 12:50

A week is enough time to get rid of them.

A week is not enough time to get rid completely - you need to keep going for a good couple of weeks combing every other night. So continue when you are on honeymoon. They will mostly be gone in a week though; after that it is about catching the odd egg you’ve missed to stop them repopulating your head

DrPsy · 05/10/2023 15:09

All of this. Also, if you have the time/patience remove each egg with tweezers by pulling the egg down the hair shaft. It will take AGES and you will probably have to ask someone to help you do yours, but from experience (with long thick hair) it’s very effective

ManyATrueWord · 05/10/2023 15:10

I've been a Nitty Gritty fan for years but apparently they get less effective. Just switched to this:

Nitbusters Infinity Stainless... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZD8NZYM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Very embarrassed about the amount I got out of my hair today. I thought we were on top of it.

gotomomo · 05/10/2023 15:13

Get the proper headlice treatment for the whole household, also wash bedding. Then daily use lots of conditioner (tea tree oil conditioner, just the cheap stuff is ideal) and a nit comb daily including behind ears as this is where they seem to hide.

123becauseicouldntthinkofone · 05/10/2023 15:15

I also recommend straightening long hair in small sections as the straightners fry the eggs

thenightsky · 05/10/2023 15:21

Zola1 · 05/10/2023 12:53

Hedrin, the overnight one, and then combing every day...and maybe another hedrin treatment if you can fit it in before the wedding

Definitely this. Hedrin overnight is brilliant.

Girlking · 05/10/2023 15:21

I haven’t read the full thread so don’t know if someone has already suggested to use hair straighteners and all lice and eggs will be obliterated immediately !

ActDottie · 05/10/2023 15:26

I would t cancel the stylist. Just make sure you have an up do for the day.

Also you have a week that’s long enough, do daily or twice daily comb throughs with a bit comb and you’ll get lots of them.
