Temu tat

What stupid things have you bought?

I avoided it for so long then I got distracted by organisers and getting my life sorted so I started clicking away. Ended up with lots of tat that is just adding to the crap I’m trying to organise.

Got these drawers, thinking they would do as a bedside cabinet for DD. Clearly didn’t give the size and looked bigger in the picture.

Zilch! Aren't they being investigated right now for passing on credit card details to scammers? If it sounds too good to be true it always is.

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/10/2023 22:59

MissDollyMix · 04/10/2023 21:46

I don’t mind a bit of tat but slave labour from concentration camps? That would be a no from me. The data harvesting issue should also be a concern. Hasn’t it been banned in some countries?

This!

Elphame · 04/10/2023 23:03

Nothing

I will never buy anything from them (nor Shien.)

Screamingabdabz · 04/10/2023 23:08

Good God I’m amazed anyone would waft their credit card details near that website!

We can’t single out just this one for the slave labour though - check the label of most of the trinkety and tat stuff you see in B&M, Matalan, Amazon, Asda, M&S, fast fashion shops etc - they’re all made in China - by enslaved people. We are all indifferently complicit.

RicherThanYews · 04/10/2023 23:11

I haven't bought from them but I heard of them through my cousin after a discussion about phone games. He told me about their wonderful fishing game ... what a load of crap.

EveSix · 04/10/2023 23:18

Urgh. Now is the time to buy less.
I have found multiple excellent options on Facebook Marketplace and on eBay since the summer for a range of items I was really happy to buy second hand.

KoalaChaos · 04/10/2023 23:20

I've been re-gifted some temu stuff and had some baby stuff bought for me.

I was given some pajamas that were bought for someone else but were the wrong size for them but fit me perfectly. And they are the COMFIEST things imaginable. Summer pajamas I should say. Not fluffy winter ones so nice and light and floaty and stretchy.

Also got bought a baby carrier (papuce???? not a chance of spelling that right)
That was great. Does exactly what you want it to, comfy and practical.
And some random toys too. Floor mirror / teddy bears etc.

Also lots of people have bought us baby clothes from SHEIN which is the same stock from the same warehouse and thats all great quality too.

Mammajay · 04/10/2023 23:26

The advertising by Temu is endless on game ops. I think it looks tatty and I wouldn't buy from them but even more so after reading about the use of slave labour

Dabralor · 04/10/2023 23:26

God there's no way I'd ever buy anything for a baby on temu - it's probably made of toxic chemicals and not even safety tested 😱. Be really careful @KoalaChaos !

That said, apparently temu is a massive wholesaler for other tatty retailers so there is every possibility it's just the ame stuff. Still be careful!!

Flickersy · 04/10/2023 23:27

The reason you see what looks like Temu products on Pinterest etc are because Temu rip off other creators / artists / manufacturers and will actually steal their photos as well as their designs.

In summary, Temu is supremely unethical (slave labour, theft, selling your data) and supremely environmentally unfriendly.

Just don't.

KoalaChaos · 04/10/2023 23:31

Dabralor

Yeah I bought myself a dress off amazon a while back and when browsing Temus range a few weeks later I found the exact dress along side the other 10 or so I had been considering as alternatives so I'm prety sure it's all the same stock there too and people wouldn't blink at buying a baby carrier from amazon.

Also saw other things like headbands and shoes I had considered on amazon on there.

IHateLegDay · 04/10/2023 23:32

Organisers, wire separators, Halloween stuff, hair accessories etc

Same as what I read Temu just rip-off other designs .

There is enough shite in Europe without shipping it all way across the world in a container.

I think most of the shite in the world is shipped from China. A few more containers on the boats won't make much difference.

Wow, that's not a great attitude in fairness ...what's the point in recycling, sure a few more bottles in the dump won't make a difference ...

caringcarer · 05/10/2023 00:15

I bought some icing nozzles to pipe flowers on to cakes, cake cases, nail clippers and all have been fine.

Surely you can just buy them in Asda/Tesco etc for the same price.

DiscoBeat · 05/10/2023 00:28

I've been slightly tempted to order something for fun just to see how bad it is but as it's so unethical (also they probably don't care about protecting your data and finance) I won't!

caringcarer · 05/10/2023 00:29

Mademetoxic · 05/10/2023 00:19

No I can't. They are much cheaper on Temu and they deliver to your door.

caringcarer · 05/10/2023 00:29

Nail clippers are less than £1 in most stores.

Surely it is more convenient to go to a supermarket etc than it is to faff online, wait for delivery....

thebutcherswife · 05/10/2023 00:35

i find it massively mind boggling that we harp on about our carbon footprint being lower than China but the majority of products that first world countries purchase are from China! What is the point in trying to lower carbon emissions in our country whilst pumping up the carbon emissions in other countries buying up the useless , unnecessary, must have (but really, honestly, it you ask yourself you could live without it) planet destroying shit?

Mercurial123 · 05/10/2023 06:04

Unfortunately, many brands were linked to using Uyghur slave labour. Muji's response a couple of years ago was that they basically didn't care.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 04/10/2023 22:08

Genuine question - when the stuff is identical on amazon, what is the proof that you are not just buying slave labour products from amazon, but with their added middle-man mark up?

I've wondered this. I haven't bought from Temu but I don't understand why people get on their high horse about Temu and Shein but not Poundland, B&M, home bargains, Amazon etc. it all seems to be the same shite to me.

panelbottle · 05/10/2023 06:21

That's why I get annoyed when people say "my recycling won't make a difference because China". Yes, China makes a lot of pollution because they are making tat for us.
