I've never broken a bone or given birth, but I have had some very painful periods that have made me feel like I'm going to pass out. Also terrible travel sickness / vomiting on a 20 hour trip that left me wishing for death due to how crap I felt.

Shraree · 03/10/2023 21:17

My very painful experiences from most painful to least are:

Labour (induction followed by emergency c-section). Absolutely horrific pain.
Kidney infection
Dislocated shoulder
Cystitis
Broken elbow
Broken foot.

Scorchio84 · 03/10/2023 21:17

breaking my coccyx (twice!) on ice... I've been through childbirth albeit an "easy" one but my god that was unbelievable pain! 20 odd years later I still feel the bones & the pain 😆

Crikeyalmighty · 03/10/2023 21:17

1st baby 8lb 10- Forceps delivery combined with being induced , an episiotomy and no epidural

If they had said to me after 2 hours pushing - with your permission we are going to cut your leg off now but the baby will be out within 30 seconds- I would have signed!

Shopper727 · 03/10/2023 21:17

I’ve had 4 kids, one forceps delivery,
both jaws broken moved chin augmented and pinned but my most painful thing was sodding kidney stones
took my breath away

childbirth was fine in comparison!

Jagley · 03/10/2023 21:17

Kidney stones, horrific. I had a back to back labour and would do that again before I had kidney stones if I had the choice.

LakieLady · 03/10/2023 21:17

Broken ribs.

When the pain was at it's worst, I would gladly have opted for euthanasia if it was the only thing that helped. Luckily an out-of-hours GP was happy to prescribe Tramadol or codeine and diazepam.

Even swallowing, farting and peeing was agony.

81cassandra · 03/10/2023 21:17

Gallstones and cluster migraines

GG1986 · 03/10/2023 21:18

Forcep delivery with no epidural or pain relief.
Kidney stones - even morphine wasn't helping!!

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 03/10/2023 21:18

Labour contractions. Not the pushing bit, just the contractions. Before I had children I honestly thought it would just feel like bad period pains and women were making it out to be worse than it is. What an idiot I was!

Thriwit · 03/10/2023 21:18

Cluster headaches. Hands down the worst. A couple of years ago I accidentally gave myself a concussion after I intentionally jumped into a beam to try to knock myself out just to escape from the pain 😳.

Jifmicroliquid · 03/10/2023 21:18

I have a strange ability to detach myself from pain but a particular nasty kidney infection around 15 years ago was pretty horrendous because there was no escape from it. I couldn’t get into any position to relieve it at all.

The pain of having my broken (3 separate breaks) and dislocated ankle pulled back into place was quite intense but not the worst.

That said, earlier this year I had a bout of sinusitis and can honestly say I have never felt a pain so intense in my head in my whole life, despite having suffered from migraines for 30 years!

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 03/10/2023 21:18

Lumbar puncture gone wrong left me with spinal fluid leakage (not aware at the time) - a week later I was struck down with the worst pain in my head....turns out my brain was rubbing on the inside of my skull with no cushioning.... yeah that hurt

I've had ten surgeries (including for a car accident where I lost half my face) and nothing has even come close to that!

Canibearsed · 03/10/2023 21:18

Dislocated fractured shoulder!
Dental abscess a close second.

MollyMarples · 03/10/2023 21:21

I remember having period pains so bad I passed out as a young teen. I don’t know if it was as bad I remember, or if I was just v young. I’ve had excruciating UTIs too.
C section wasn’t bad at all.

HernesEgg · 03/10/2023 21:21

Imenti · 03/10/2023 21:10

Kidney stones x 3 😭

I’m with the kidney stones people.

I remember howling on all fours in the corridor of A and E because there was a huge pile-up on the motorway and had to prioritise the injured. It was four months after I’d given birth and made labour (which I was dreadful at) seem like a picnic.

itsamedicalmystery · 03/10/2023 21:21

I broke my elbow and arm, 5 separate fractures. It didn't hurt at the time, I think adrenaline kicked in as I didn't want the kids to see me upset. Once at the hospital I was a vomiting mess. They had to put me in tests as the vomiting was making my heart rate escalate,

Scorchio84 · 03/10/2023 21:21

Lammveg · 03/10/2023 21:07

Childbirth. Accidentally gave birth at home with no pain relief after being sent home from the maternity unit because it was my first baby so that always means a long labour ....was holding my daughter less than 4hrs later lol

I got this too.. "oh don't be ridiculous, it's your first baby, there's no way you're ready to push" 🙄Glad we both ended up with our babies happy in our arms x

AnneValentine · 03/10/2023 21:21

Failed reduction of a spiral fracture to the tibia. There is nothing like that.

Child birth, bone breaks, abscesses, c sections. All nothing by comparison.

Lucyccfc68 · 03/10/2023 21:22

Chest drain after having a punctured lung. Basically it’s a tube on the end of surgical scissors and it’s rammed through your rib cage. I was in that much shock and pain after I couldn’t move. I then spent 8 hours sat in a chair shaking with no pain relief. The worst of it was it was actually a breast consultant who punctured my lung in the first place.

I had a C section and that was a walk in the park in comparison.

staybyyou · 03/10/2023 21:22

Endometriosis.

I'd take childbirth with no pain relief over endo pain any day.

RoomOfRequirement · 03/10/2023 21:22

Dislocated shoulder while being raped. He threw me and I landed awkwardly which dislocated it, and then continued to put pressure on it for the whole time.

Gallstones.

Dental abscess.

Evaka · 03/10/2023 21:22

My stomach is heaving reading some of these. For me - ruptured appendix, dental abcess, bulging disc colliding with sciatic nerve in lower back a few years ago.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/10/2023 21:22

The day after I ‘broke’ my shoulder. I’d been to ER, next day was getting rolling bouts of pain for no rhyme or reason. So much pain I was howling! Friend phoned urgent care to see if they could prescribe stronger drugs, they heard me and said get straight back to ER. I couldn’t stand up or sit down without the pain, screamed during triage, had to have some Valium and morphine, screamed getting on the bed for cat scan. They were all looking me like I’d lost my marbles. It was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever had or wish to have. All during Covid so I had to go in alone and try to explain what was happening. Ugh.

Wanderinghome · 03/10/2023 21:23

I've given birth twice and I'd say Encephalitis was awful.

User63847439572 · 03/10/2023 21:23

Nerve pain from slipped disc in my neck
then childbirth
