To chuck the Avon book in the recycling.

So I know there's someone out there trying to make a living and good for them. But i don't want Avon stuff. My choices are to

a leave it out on the step where it'll likely get wet
b keep it in the house but I'm unlikely to be here when they call back
c (and this is my preference) chuck it in the recycling with the rest of the unsolicited trash.

Just chuck it

Or leave on the step in a plastic bag and write AVON on the bag. If it doesn’t get picked up by the weekend chuck it then

BadLad · 01/10/2023 23:33

I throw things like that out. Makes it less likely that they’ll be delivered in future.

SleepingisanArt · 01/10/2023 23:33

I don't know why there are still reps when you can buy the products online. The catalogue thing is so outdated. We got one and I put a note in it to say no thank you to any future catalogues. It sat outside for 3 weeks beyond the date it was due to be collected so good job I didn't want to place an order.

I'd say it's not a good way to earn money now (in the 60s and 70s my Mum did tupperwear parties and also pippas clothing parties which did bring in some money but again wouldn't work now).

@PreetyinPurple oh gosh that takes me back. I once binned a Kleeneze catalogue that had come through the door thinking it was junk mail.

I got a right earful from a lady who called to collect it and threatened to charge me! I had no idea it wasn't another junk catalogue, this was in the 1990's and lots of unwanted brochures through the door in those days.

I told her not to put another through my door.

Well it IS a junk catalogue

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 01/10/2023 23:37

I haven't seen a catalogue for a very long time. It's all on Amazon these days so can't imagine anyone is making anything on it these days.

jlpth · 01/10/2023 23:37

Stick a note to your letter box saying: No leaflets or catalogues thank you

Make sure it's covered in plastic/sellotape

dutysuite · 01/10/2023 23:38

I got one recently and went to the website to have a look but I didn’t buy anything. I didn’t know what to do with the catalog because the last time I left it out it wasn’t collected so this time I recycled it, I also didn’t want it sitting on my doorstep for weeks.

ChallengeAnneka · 01/10/2023 23:41

I would put it back on the step in a plastic bag with a polite note.

But honestly, it’s an odd business model in 2023, if im understanding how it works…

Theunamedcat · 01/10/2023 23:43

They can reuse them and sometimes you can step back a campaign so they can use them for more than one month is there a mobile number on the back? Just drop them a text telling them your not interested and your address asking them to collect it

Our area you can't recycle them as they are too shiny so I like to actually return them

The books belong to the rep. Expect an invoice if you recycle / destroy it - and Avon reps get support from Avon to pursue CCJs. Not worth it. Just leave it on the doorstep in a plastic bag

Why is it reasonable to put your property in a stranger's home unasked, and expect the stranger to look after it?

This is crazy. Surely there's a high chance you won't get it back if you post it through some random persons door. Confused

WrongSwanson · 02/10/2023 00:03

If someone pops something unsolicited through my letter box I will not feel remotely bad about putting it in the bin

SinisterBumFacedCat · 02/10/2023 00:07

My rep doesn’t collect the books back anymore since COVID so I recycle mine, (they do some decent perfume).

Don't be so ridiculous!!! Expect an invoice! CCJ's! For unsolicited junk mail???

How much is a booklet???

IF there was a note with it, explaining they would I charged, and when it would be collected, I 'might' leave it out. If I didn't see/read the note, or there wasn't one, it would go in the bin!

KajsaKavat · 02/10/2023 00:12

I always chuck them

You can’t post your ‘property’ through other people’s doors then invoice them for it! There has to be a mutual agreement for this to be legally enforceable and both parties have definitely NOT agreed in this scenario. Once a person posts their junk through my door, it becomes my property and I’ll do what I like with it!

AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside · 01/10/2023 22:42

Put it in a sandwich bag and leave it outside.

They do have to pay for the books each campaign and any they are short of are less potential sales this campaign.

After she's done your road, she'll be doing another. The less books she has back, the less sales she can get.

My mum did Avon for years so she could fit it around caring for my disabled sister, as do many.

Don't be a fucking dick.

Perfect ending

What utter nonsense. They'd be laughed out of court.

PinkMoscatoLover · 02/10/2023 00:26

How does Avon actually work? I’m 24 so this is a bit before my time😅

Do they go back and knock on everyone’s door to ask if they want to purchase something? If you keep the booklet do they think you’re a potential customer or something? I don’t get it

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 02/10/2023 00:59

The reps have to pay for the books.

When I did Avon I would pop a note in to say when I would collect the book so the person didn't need to leave it out for days. I also asked that if they were not interested in having a book to let me know & I wouldn't leave one again.

There's no need to be nasty to someone trying to earn a few bob.

Gingerkittykat · 02/10/2023 01:02

The rep sticks the book through your door and you either order some stuff or not and then leave the book on the doorstep. The rep delivers your order and get some commission. It's years since I ordered Avon but I think it was cash on delivery but that might have changed.

My friend is doing Avon for Christmas and has a pge on the Avon site where you can order, I've no idea if she is also going to have paper books.

It's not being nasty to not want unsolicited junk cluttering your doorstep/house.

Its morally repugnant to try and guilt people about junk mail

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 02/10/2023 01:07

""Morally repugnant "? Good grief.

No one is being guilt tripped, order or don't order & just say please don't leave another catalogue- it's not difficult.

You didn't read all the nonsense up thread about threats of court action then? Of course that's vile (albeit nonsensical)

DailyMailHater · 02/10/2023 01:18

Off topic but growing up our Avon lady had a strong Scottish accent , when I answered the door she would say “avon calling” but I thought she was saying “Yvonne calling” and a would always go and find my mum and say “Yvonne is at the door” 😂🫣
