How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

Once a week, we have it on the day I get the dc back, when I've already worked 36 hrs over 3 days and can't be arsed to shop/cook!

Unfortun8 · 01/10/2023 18:35

Once a week probably. I have the grilled chicken wrap. It's great

IReallyLikeYouButIWantToSeeHowThingsGoWithMark · 01/10/2023 18:37

about once every 10-14 days. sometimes less.

Monday mornings for breakfast as I am sometimes on an early at work and it is easier to get them out of bed if they know there is a bacon roll in the mix.

Often on Saturdays after swimming as we got into a habit of 2 hash browns each.

I love McDonalds. I'm newly diagnosed coeliac though so am trying to get used to that.

About a dozen times in my lifetime (I’m 59).

Disclaimer: I’m a Burger King girl.

catlovingdoctor · 01/10/2023 18:37

Never, it doesn't make me feel good.

CrispyTofu · 01/10/2023 18:40

Never, children need nutritious tasty food, not junk food and especially not Macdonalds. Healthy mock-ups of fast food can be up at home if required.

No one is suggesting McD’s are the main source of food but what about a treat when you’re out- doesn’t hurt anyone.

That made me laugh.

They also need to learn about moderation.

A few times per week. Mainly a sausage and egg mcmuffin and a bigmac once a week. I'm not fussy on the fries. I honestly love mcdonalds

You and your kids? Or just you?

AlwaysPrettyOnTheInside · 01/10/2023 19:15

Very rarely now. Used to eat it a lot when we were on the road a lot (we moved 100m from our families). Also ate it a lot when hungover. Rarely, if ever drink now either.

GrumpyPanda · 01/10/2023 19:20

Two or three times, ever, and all of those in former Eastern bloc countries before they'd improved their restaurant scene. Last time iirc in 2006 or thereabouts.

I used to live across the street from an independent burger joint though, and did that a couple of times a month. Different story altogether.

Elphame · 01/10/2023 19:22

Never. Not even when the children were small.

OneCup · 01/10/2023 19:23

We're not keen so will only go if there are no other options (eg. Airport, services etc).
We do like take aways though, which we have weekly so I wouldn't say we are healthy per se.

Take. That. Back.

You cannot possibly be when their fries are boaksome and they cancelled the Swiss cheese mushroom delightfully delicious burger thing. I will grudgingly concede on their cheeseburgers. The Whopper's over salad shit is just minging. Who wants real tomatoes??????)

SherbetDips · 01/10/2023 19:27

once or twice a month. Depends really.

Walkingtheplank · 01/10/2023 19:31

I've never had a McD burger but did have a donut in my teens. DCs have only had one when it's been part of a friends' birthday celebrations - and they do it to be polite.

avocadotofu · 01/10/2023 19:37

We never go.

Pushkinini · 01/10/2023 19:41

Maybe twice a year. Even when the DC were small we'd go as a treat, but probably less than half a dozen times a year. Occasionally I do love a dirty Maccy D's and fries though!

TheLightProgramme · 01/10/2023 19:44

Once a year, on our way on holiday. The timing & route means we've only got a short time to get food & limited choices, so we get a McDonald's.

Its never occurred to me to go and buy that sort of meal as a regular part of our lives, its ridiculously processed junk. A food related "treat" in our house would be more something like brunch in a local bakery type cafe (not a chain - something where the food is prepared freshly) - bacon sandwiches, pancakes, croissants etc.

If we were buying convenience food for a weekend super it would be a takeaway pizza from our favourite italian place, fish and chips or an indian (lots of fab restaurants locally).

TheMurderousGoose · 01/10/2023 19:46

I love a McDonalds if I have a hangover.

MavisMcMinty · 01/10/2023 19:57

I HATED my first ever McDonalds, ordered a cheeseburger as that’s what I always had at Wimpy, and the flabby bun and fucking GHERKINS FFFS were repellent. So for several years after that while my friends all queued at McDonalds after a night out, I went 100m down the High Street and watched the Wimpyman cook my delicious cheeseburger for me, adding extra onions just as I liked.

Then, oh fateful day, I had a bite of my friend’s Big Mac, and have been devoted ever since, although I always peel off the fucking GHERKINS FFFS. Yeuch!

I’d still prefer a Wimpy, but you try finding one of those. Have they all gone? I did love ‘em.

GalaApples · 01/10/2023 20:00

Never. I value my health and principles too much.

QueenBitch666 · 01/10/2023 20:09

Never. I'd have to be literally starving

SandandSky · 01/10/2023 20:13

My oldest is 5 and they have never been to McDonald’s. I draw the line at McDonalds/Burger King/KFC etc…
