How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

OP posts:

Only as a treat after a visit to the GP.

BlueKaftan · 01/10/2023 20:16

My DH got a knickerbocker glory, which I think sounds nicer.

ProfYaffle · 01/10/2023 20:17

Probably 3 times a year ish. Mainly because our nearest one is about 15 miles away. The chicken burgers and wraps are perfectly fine. I also has a passable chicken salad rice box thing at KFC.

lljkk · 01/10/2023 20:20

When DC were little (< 10yo) we probably got take away chips about once a week on average, either brought home or as a snack while out & about. McDs too far away to be a regular option, but other chippies, sure.

Tailfeather · 01/10/2023 20:20

Never ever. Not since I was about 6 years old!

Sloth66 · 01/10/2023 20:21

About 5 years ago, maybe once a year before then

Beezknees · 01/10/2023 20:22

I have a McDonald's breakfast every Sunday. Love me a mcmuffin. Then occasionally I'll have a big mac for dinner. I don't have young kids though.

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/10/2023 20:25

Never. I don't think I've been in a McDonalds for 15+ years. And then it was only for the coffee (surprisingly good).

Vitriolinsanity · 01/10/2023 19:27

Take. That. Back.

You cannot possibly be when their fries are boaksome and they cancelled the Swiss cheese mushroom delightfully delicious burger thing. I will grudgingly concede on their cheeseburgers. The Whopper's over salad shit is just minging. Who wants real tomatoes??????)

Meh. Fries are just fries. Mac Donald’s ones are invariably cold.

Fresh stuff is the selling point of Burger King. Juicy, sloppy and tastier.

KfC is the fast food of choice. I live no where near a fried chicken outlet of any sort luckily.

about once every 10-14 days. sometimes less.

Monday mornings for breakfast as I am sometimes on an early at work and it is easier to get them out of bed if they know there is a bacon roll in the mix.

Often on Saturdays after swimming as we got into a habit of 2 hash browns each.

I love McDonalds. I'm newly diagnosed coeliac though so am trying to get used to that.

My sister in law is coeliac and can’t eat a thing in McD’s without feeling unwell. Even just fries. 😢😢

I bloody love a McDonald’s. It just hits the spot. We get it maybe once a month in the winter, more often in summer as we are out and about, travelling around with the kids and need to get them fed.
I’m vegan and love the new plant burger. Plus the apple pie is accidentally vegan👍🏻

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/10/2023 20:38

About twice a year, maybe. Only at motorway sevices on long journeys.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 01/10/2023 20:42

My toddler dd has had some of the chips once and my ds (mid primary school) has had it twice, but has a specific dietary need so it has to be considered and planned for us.

blissno · 01/10/2023 20:51

Once a month or so. Can't get my knickers too much in a twist about it.

sleepwouldbenice · 01/10/2023 20:59

About twice a year
Fits perfectly for some situations ( on way back from concert) otherwise would prefer many things

tennesseewhiskey1 · 01/10/2023 21:02

Twice a year - sometimes once. It’s a birthday treat for the kids if they ask - my son asked for it this year - my daughter didn’t so we would have gone once this year.

StripeyMow · 01/10/2023 21:03

Never. I feel post uni hangover breakfasts it’s never quite lived up to the hype you make up in your head before you actually eat it.

I wouldn’t worry about hubby taking them once a fortnight. Let it be their thing and enjoy the peace. You can still have a lazy night/day of your own if you want it, the kids will survive and you’ll still be a great mum.

Mummadeze · 01/10/2023 21:07

I don’t think once every two weeks is too bad. I probably did the same at one point. We grew out of it though and haven’t been for years now.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 01/10/2023 21:07

We go through phases, sometimes its once a week, like in the school holidays, other times its once every 3/4 weeks. Its an easy lunch on a saturday after DD's sport activity. I love it as well, and we eat pretty healthy rest of the time so its a nice treat.

Beezknees · 01/10/2023 21:08

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/10/2023 20:25

Never. I don't think I've been in a McDonalds for 15+ years. And then it was only for the coffee (surprisingly good).

The coffee is great for the price. It's better than a lot of the expensive chains like Costa.

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 01/10/2023 21:10

I'm in my 60s and have eaten in McDonald's 3 times. HATE the crap. Only went because I took my grandson after he'd been to football match (it was late and we didn't have much time for anything else). I had ice cream.

Phos · 01/10/2023 21:15

At one time when I was a kid we went every Saturday, was just a thing for a while. Now it's not on any set schedule. Once or twice a month I guess.

ZickZack · 01/10/2023 21:22

Once a month

mamaduckbone · 01/10/2023 21:25

Never. It's just not something that I would see as a treat (not being snobby, I just don't like it) so we never took the dcs when they were little.
Ds17 worked there for a few months and had one every shift, so once or twice a week. The novelty wore off pretty quickly. Ds2 is a big foody so he kind of likes the idea of it but the reality usually disappoints. He might go occasionally with friends (he's 14)

glossypeach · 01/10/2023 21:30

Not that often at all. But I don’t usually eat out or get takeaways often either. And because I rarely get takeout/meals out often McDonald’s definitely wouldn’t be my first choice. The only time I usually go is when I do a multi hour car journey to visit my specialist hospital as McDonald’s is on the way out of convenience.

CrispyTofu · 01/10/2023 21:51

@Parker231 @OTM1982 isn't a treat supposed to be something nice? I don't include Macdonalds in that category and the OP was asking about going once a fortnight, not as an occasional treat. You don't need to use Macdonalds to teach moderation.
