How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

It’s less the venue more the principle, you are boring healthy eating mother and he gets to swoop in and do the fun meals, rhe easy meals, the “tasty” meals. I have the same except mine will do a lot of cooking at home but goes for taste over nutrition so the kid absolutely LOVE his cooking ( eg roast spuds in goose fat and oil, same with some of the veg) whereas I’m always trying to think long term and with balance. Frustrating.

Once or twice a month when we go to local mall.

When I was a child, my parents brought us there once a year on our birthday.

Mumof118 · 03/10/2023 17:43

I go through the drive thru once or twice a week. Just for DH and I though. DS has IBS so can’t eat McD. He eats a carnivore diet only, to keep his symptoms under control.

like eating cardboard while sitting in a bin

very well put @LoobyDop , sums up the experience perfectly.

I loved it too! So true.

CeriB82 · 03/10/2023 17:46

Rarely. Im 20 miles from the nearest one. If im on the road, i might puck something up but i do find them tasteless.

Ourlittletalks · 03/10/2023 19:51

Man I’m gonna be put on the list of worst mums but I definitely hit McDonald’s twice a week; sometimes more. Busy single working mum here, also pregnant and too tired to cook most days. I cook maybe 3x weekly, we go to a local restaurant 1x weekly (my child always gets the same thing - rice, veggies, and grilled chicken) and I always get a vegetarian curry with rice. At McDonald’s, she’ll either have a happy meal with a burger (without the actual burger patty on it , she’ll have the side salad on the burger though) or mozzarella dippers with side salad. She has a very balanced diet and will eat just about anything, and I don’t feel any shame about how often we go since it’s better she’s fed than not fed.

Probably once a month, usually its a treat during the school holidays. I love mcdonalds, I was a bit concerned when one opened near us recently as previously they were 30mins one direction and 45 the other, I thought I'd be there loads once there was one down the road but actually I haven't felt the need

GirlsAndPenguins · 03/10/2023 20:44

Gosh reading the responses 😂🤦🏼‍♀️
We probably average once a week. It’s the only take out food my 3 year old eats, we often walk into town on a weekend, go to soft play, get a McDonald’s. Also occasionally if we can’t be bothered to cook tea!
As for junk food teas, depending on your perspective…most nights 🤦🏼‍♀️.
3 year old is incredibly fussy. Other than nuggets, pizzas, burgers she will eat a chilli or a spag Bol…If I do a roast she will eat chicken, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. No potatoes, no veg.
We keep offering her different foods and serving them to her, if she’s in a good mood she will take one bite (with much persuasion) and tell you it’s yucky.
I serve pizza with things I know she will eat (cucumber, tomatoes) she eats loads of fruit and is happy to have things like pepper in her lunch box (won’t eat sandwiches either!)
I don’t want her to starve (although I sometimes tell her it’s this or nothing, she won’t even eat pasta!! I thought all kids ate pasta!!) sometimes she just gets spaghetti or beans on (Near, on would be a meltdown) toast!
Weirdly even with eating such rubbish she is slim, only eats until she’s full (she doesn’t care if she’s only had a bite of her burger) and more often than not has at least 5 a day fruit and veg!
I try not to stress. If I keep offering other food (even if it’s not every night) hopefully eventually she will be willing to eat more variety.
On the flip side I went to uni with a girl that had never had junk food, she was a size 10. By the new year she was a size 18. She just went crazy. She gained the weight so quickly her body was covered in sliced looking stretch marks.
I think saying no to foods like this all the time makes them more desirable.

I get this - my husband is the same and it's irritating as I then get to be mean mummy all the time

Have never taken my children. I personally think once a fortnight is a lot, but if they’re eating well the rest of the time I guess it’s okay.

Becgoz7 · 03/10/2023 14:28

Almost never, once or twice a year.

We prefer five guys if we have to grab something while we are out

Five guys is expensive comparatively though. McDonald's is so cheap. I get that's a huge part of the reason why people don't like it but it's huge part of the reason it's so popular.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/10/2023 21:49

For those who go frequently, wouldn't it be easier to batch cook something healthy and have it on hand for those "too tired/busy to cook" days? Or make a jacket potato in the microwave?

NalafromtheLionKing · 03/10/2023 21:53

Once every 12-18 months.

No, it wouldn’t be easier to cook food at home. Which in any case wouldn’t be ‘better’ or ‘healthier’ or more ‘wholesome’ or of higher quality than Maccies. It might be more to your taste. But that’s up to you.

Oh get a life

blissno · 03/10/2023 22:12

Some of the people on this thread are the kind that give out fruit to trick or treaters on Halloween.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/10/2023 22:12

Oh is going to Maccies living?

blissno · 03/10/2023 22:18

Compared to eating microwave jacket potatoes? Yes.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/10/2023 22:19

food maybe once or twice a year - I might get a cup of tea there; it's often a cheap option for drinks, especially at motorway services.

I did go in one earlier in the year, twenty minutes and no other fast food options about, and had a chicken wrap. There was an option of grilled or breaded chicken, (had grilled) there was salad in it, it seemed reasonably healthy.

Missingmyusername · 03/10/2023 22:24

Who on earth goes to McDonald’s to get a salad!

The amount of packaging really annoys me… but I take DD about once a month. It’s a pointless meal really as she eats again a few hours later.
I don’t like the handling of ingredients with bare hands- I would have thought they should wear gloves.

Meadowlands · 03/10/2023 22:48

Of course it's healthier to cook at home than eat the processed crap in Macdonalds.

cherish123 · 03/10/2023 23:09

Never. It's horrid. I liked Wimpy in the 80s.

Sugarfree23 · 04/10/2023 00:36

@Missingmyusername me 🙋‍♀️ I get salad in McDs click the under 400 cal option and it pretty much narrows it to salad and wraps.

I don't really get your next statement she eats again a few hours later - don't most people eat 3 times a day - that said I'd never consider it for dinner really occasionally breakfast, sometimes lunch.

Most kitchens staff have washed hands rather than gloves which can cause more issues for staff.
