How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

Once or twice a year at most. I do enjoy eating it but always feel a bit grim afterwards.

stayathomer · 01/10/2023 21:52

Generally when are heading to my mums so doing a bit of a road trip/when there’s holidays or a birthday which works out as once a month

Tinytigertail · 01/10/2023 21:57

Honestly, perhaps 3 times a year, if we stop at a service station on the way to/from somewhere. I just don't understand the love for them

Sugarfree23 · 01/10/2023 21:58

I don't think once or twice a fortnight is OTT especially when you consider kids eat 21 meals a week. 1 isn't exactly loads.

That's said it's not my favourite but it's convenient when out n about. So it's only ever a lunch option for me never dinner.

AnnieApple123 · 01/10/2023 22:00

It’s been over 5 years now, since I cleaned up my diet in preparation to TTC.

My 3 year-old has never tried it and I don’t have any plans to introduce it for the foreseeable future.

Terrribletwos · 01/10/2023 22:02

Is it cold by the time you get it though?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/10/2023 22:03

Hardly ever but my Dd doesn’t like anything from there so it’ll be the odd time when it’s just me and ds and were in a rush / had to be out at an awkward time

CrispyTofu · 01/10/2023 21:51

@Parker231 @OTM1982 isn't a treat supposed to be something nice? I don't include Macdonalds in that category and the OP was asking about going once a fortnight, not as an occasional treat. You don't need to use Macdonalds to teach moderation.

You can use anything, even McDonald's to teach moderation! YOU don't consider McDonald's a treat, but many do and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. My kid loves pizza, am I gonna feed him that every day? No. But am I going to worry if he has it every fortnight?! No, because it will have absolutely no impact on him, the same as a McDonald's/Burger king/KFC won't have any impact on OPs kids either.

PinkRiceKrispies · 01/10/2023 22:11

Normally just go in for their tea as so cheap. If I eat in there I can vary from once a week to once every month. It's not my favourite but it's convenient and fairly inexpensive.
When I was a kid we went all the time. Nothing wrong with my weight now, everything in moderation as they say.

BotanicalNames · 01/10/2023 22:49

Only when we go to the cinema, so once every couple of months or so.

healthadvice123 · 01/10/2023 22:54

Probably once a fornight, moderation is whats key, some on here will claim they can’t even walk on the same side of the road for fear of it
the reality is like most things moderation is whats key

SouthLondonMum22 · 01/10/2023 22:54

Once a week usually. Love a Big Mac.

WeightoftheWorld · 01/10/2023 23:00

Hmm I reckon about twice a month on average, this trend started about a year ago, before then it was only a few times a year. I think it will reduce now though, one of the reasons was because DC1 did an activity which was near one, which they've recently stopped.

CoughingMajoress · 02/10/2023 01:58

I don't think I've eaten in McDonalds in probably ten years (have bought coffee there a few times). Not virtue signalling, I eat loads of Indian takeaways and burritos and stuff, just not McDonalds for some reason. I don't have kids though which probably affects things.

Never had McDonalds growing up (takeaways/fast food was mainly pizza, and the occasionally Chinese takeaway), but the minute I started secondary school I went mad for McD, used to pop in almost every day on my way home from school, ate McDonalds all the time for a few years, then just stopped.

PeloMom · 02/10/2023 04:41

I’m not into McD but DH would eat there every day if he could. We get for DC once a week/ once a forthnight; sometimes we don’t get it for weeks and then DC has twice in a week (when it’s particularly hectic).

Mum2aTeen · 02/10/2023 05:01

We used to like 2 or 3 times a fortnight since the rise of living/cost of everything it's gone up at least $20-$30 (I'm in Australia so I think that's about £10-£15).
We only get it when we are out longer then expected or I need coffee and Macca's is the only thing around but even that i hate paying $10 for a coffee and $70/£36 for a meal for 3 is just ridiculous (especially when I've already painful like $400/£210 for groceries).
Thankfully, my partner is on the same ideas as me.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/10/2023 06:01

Twice a year, on a particular journey. Don't want to fall into the habit of relying on it to sub for wholesome meals.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/10/2023 06:03

Millybob · 01/10/2023 15:43

Never. You're right, once a fortnight is far too often - should be a rare treat for birthdays or days out, a handful of times a year. Not part of anybody's regular diet. Get your husband to read Supersize me and tell him that even if he's buying smaller portions, that's what he's doing to his kids' healthy bodies, just more slowly.

Totally agree with this.

ConnieSaks · 02/10/2023 06:06

Never - I followed the Mclibel case in the 1990s!

nutellacrepe · 02/10/2023 06:09

Well firstly I don't think once a fortnight is going to do any harm.

But if kids aren't even asking for it/ wanting it as a treat, I don't see the point in taking them.

Why would a parent want to encourage eating McDonalds if there are other options and the kids aren't even bothered?

McDonalds isn't poison but it is addictive, processed food full of fat and sugar. It's not good for them and it's not a good habit to get into having it when you CBA to cook.

Sounds like he's just lazy and doesn't really care about his kids' nutrition.

Sunshinenrain · 02/10/2023 06:37

I think once a fortnight is absolutely fine.

I don’t have it often as I live rurally so there aren’t many fast food places or takeaways around.

Some posters won’t have McDonald’s but they possibly will have other forms of takeaways more regularly, which is the same as getting McDonald’s.

Its just food.
It just happens to be a higher calorie content because everything is deep fried but there’s nothing wrong with having it.

I agree with this.

I don’t know why he’s so set on it.

i think because his oldest is obsessed with it (my SDC) he thinks it should be a treat. His oldest goes 2-3x a week, I’ve known him go 3x in a weekend and every single night for tea. So I think somewhere he thinks our children should enjoy it. My DC never ask for it. My oldest isn’t really fussed by chips and takeaway. They’re into pasta and mash!

Deftandglory · 02/10/2023 07:39

@Sunshinenrain I dunno. I think it’s been proved that the combination of fat and sugar and mouthfeel makes it pretty addictive. And nutritionally it’s vapid with the tiniest amount of unprocessed ingredients and a wafer of protein.
Why get your child into the habit of eating it? Of course there is a time and place for eating it. But regularly ?

And Op I agreed the Op can be hacked off because it means she has to do the less easy, healthy food, the rest of the time.

TheGreatHat · 02/10/2023 07:48

McDonalds specifically... Once around 5 years ago

Fast food in general like Burger King, KFC... Maybe a couple of times a year, if we're hungry when driving hours going on holiday

Will very happily buy burgers from a decent independent or smaller chain takeaway/restaurant

TumblingTower · 02/10/2023 08:47

Thank you @Deftandglory this:-

And Op I agreed the Op can be hacked off because it means she has to do the less easy, healthy food, the rest of the time.

This definitely forms a large basis of my complaint.
