How often do you eat at McDonalds?

Just interested. I think DH visits too often with the kids, he would take them even more if it wasn’t for me asking him not to.

For context he takes them once a fortnight, he would take them once or twice in a week if it wasn’t for me putting my foot down.

It annoys me as I do 90% of the parenting (he works away often) and I feel I can’t give them a lazy tea as they’re already having enough crap.

I know I’ll be criticised for that and not too interested - just wonder what other people do?

Probably went about 5 years when we were in Singapore and we couldn't afford to eat anywhere else.

Ramalangadingdong · 02/10/2023 08:55

Never. Hate it.

Sparklybanana · 02/10/2023 08:57

McDonald's are gross. No flavour. I quite like Burger King if we need to grab a burger but would rather wait than have McDonald's. I don't understand why it's so popular. I have it once every couple of years which reminds me how bad it is.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/10/2023 09:00

Once in a blue moon. Even the smell of those places puts me off.
I haven’t yet taken the Gdcs, the occasion has never arisen, but I would take them on a day out, for a treat. They very rarely have one at home.

QuizzlyBears · 02/10/2023 09:07

So if this thread is indicative of the general population, then McDonald’s is going to be out of business soon 😂 MN is a funny place sometimes but the virtue signalling on this one is something else.

riotlady · 02/10/2023 09:27

We used to go about once a week, our Saturday routine with DD was swimming then get lunch nearby, usually McDonald’s. Moved away now don’t go nearly so often but don’t see the harm!

Tried it once. Smelled like shite. Tasted like shite. Checked ingredients. It is shite.

The business model? Spend loads on adverts, cut down as much as possible on quality, ignore health, profit from the gullibility of fools. It works.

And, to confirm in advance, yes I do think those who swallow both the ads and the product are fools. Sorry if this applies to you; if the cap fits ...

Of course, it's a free country. Fill your boots. Fill your kids' bellies with shite. They'll never notice.

"Virtue signalling"? Huh?

I agree with this.

I don’t know why he’s so set on it.

i think because his oldest is obsessed with it (my SDC) he thinks it should be a treat. His oldest goes 2-3x a week, I’ve known him go 3x in a weekend and every single night for tea. So I think somewhere he thinks our children should enjoy it. My DC never ask for it. My oldest isn’t really fussed by chips and takeaway. They’re into pasta and mash!

Yeah. I get it, but it wouldn't be my hill to die on to be honest. If he's taking them once a fortnight I'd probably raise an eyebrow but leave it.

If he was taking them more than once a week I'd be more bothered because that's unhealthy.

Sounds like you've compromised on once a fortnight and that's no big deal really.

Rummikub · 02/10/2023 09:33

McDonald’s- every fortnight ish. I notice when they have specials on and look out for their cheesy bites.

subway- few months ago. I want to like it but their subs taste the same and the bread is too sweet

KFC- always regret this. Way too salty. Last time prob 2 years ago.

Burger King- about a decade ago. Don’t like it at all.

UndercoverCop · 02/10/2023 09:35

DS has never been, I don't really like it, it's bland and often cold. I think the last one I had was summer 22 I got stuck in traffic driving long distance and that's what was available at the services. It's always disappointing. DH loves a burger but McDonald's is bottom of his list. We are lucky to have a couple of nice local places, I know he had lunch in one last week with a colleague.
We live by the sea and the fish and chips is great DS probably has that every 2+ months although sometimes there's a longer gap

This is MN, home of super-mummies, who will compete to express the most disdain at fast food.

’Mac-what?’ ‘Oh dear, no, Fenella and Rupes only really like my home-made hummus with a pile of raw veggies and some figs’.

Eh? You don’t have to be posh to understand that the sort of fast food served in places like McDonalds is extremely unhealthy and likely to lead to obesity, diabetes and other serious health issues if consumed too frequently.

Fish and chips from your local chip shop would be slightly better.

MadameCamembert · 02/10/2023 09:59

It’s interesting they such a big proportion of people on here are saying never. Certainly not a representation of the population, I’d think. I wonder if the people Mumsnet attracts a screwed sample of the population or are people that don’t go more likely to comment?

We go at least once a month. More when I’m doing lots of miles for work - will probably have 1 today as it’ll be about my 20th consecutive day working and I absolutely cannot face cooking. For us it’s quite tasty and majorly convenient. The rest of the time we tend to home cook and have a variety of balanced meals.

SallyWD · 02/10/2023 10:01

I really dislike Macdonalds so never eat there. Take the kids there maybe 4 times a year - usually a stop on a motorway or if I take their friends out.

Well MN won’t be representative of the entire population - I bet if i asked young adults or teens I get a totally different response. Which I’d expect.

But OP asked, people are just answering.

TheMurderousGoose · 02/10/2023 10:07

It’s the same as the ‘how much do you drink?’ threads. The teetotallers will always be over-represented on those threads.

readingismycardio · 02/10/2023 10:08

Once or twice/year

roarrfeckingroar · 02/10/2023 10:08

Never. I wouldn't want my kids eating it either.

BourbonBiscuits20 · 02/10/2023 10:11

I feel that on these types of posts you're always going to get way more people that rarely go (and are proud of that-fine no problem with that, just stating) commenting.
I think we go through phases but often we fall into a pattern of once a week-at the weekend. I don't feel great about that but when we don't go or are in a phase of rarely going they will be having a tea of chicken dippers and potato waffles at home on a weekend night which is not really any different!

MasterBeth · 02/10/2023 10:13

Millybob · 01/10/2023 15:43

Never. You're right, once a fortnight is far too often - should be a rare treat for birthdays or days out, a handful of times a year. Not part of anybody's regular diet. Get your husband to read Supersize me and tell him that even if he's buying smaller portions, that's what he's doing to his kids' healthy bodies, just more slowly.

Supersize Me has been largely debunked. The creator, Morgan Spurlock, was an alcoholic during all the medical testing, making all of the revelations about the before and after state of his liver invalid.

Eating at McDonalds once a fortnight is absolutely fine nutritionally.

WelshWannabe · 02/10/2023 10:21

Rarely for dh, ds2 and me.

Ds1 is 14 though and has just started working at our local one so he has it more often than I would like. I hope the novelty will wear off eventually and he generally has a really healthy diet otherwise.

Parker231 · 02/10/2023 10:27

From reading this thread it is clear that it doesn’t represent real life where McD’s are full of families, teenagers and students.

Once your DC’s reach teenagers you’ll have less control of what they will eat and I can guarantee they will be in McD’s

This has been said before but I’m not sure of the point you’re trying to make?

My kids might chose to eat more McDonalds when they get older, although we live pretty rurally so they won’t be able to go themselves until later teens.

But in any case, why should what they might do when they’re older influence my choices now? As I’ve said before on this thread are you suggesting it should be introduced as early as possible and in any quantity?

Those who say "never", would you be okay with your kid having a McDonald's whilst at a birthday outing or round a friend's house?
