How to butter a bread roll

Lauralaaaa · 30/09/2023 22:00

My darling boyfriend kindly made me a ham bread roll after my 12.5 hour shift. He asked if I wanted butter and I said yes please. I come home to find he has buttered one side of the roll and left the other plain. He claims you make more work for yourself if you butter both sides, just double up on the one side.

He does this with a normal sandwich as well apparently. I may have to end the relationship.

Please tell me I’m not going crazy and he’s a lunatic.

YABU- only butter one side
YANBU- butter both sides

Yanbu.

Save yourself the heartache op and end it now

Burnamer · 30/09/2023 22:06

What sticks the bread to the filling if it’s not buttered?!

is he willing to learn OP?

LTB.

Ohthatsabitshit · 30/09/2023 22:08

Well he could mayonnaise the other side but not leave it naked! We aren’t savages.

SymbolicSymbals · 30/09/2023 22:08

This is so bad that you should marry him just so you can immediately divorce him.

Pleaseme · 30/09/2023 22:11

I’d only butter one side too. Unless it was toast but surely no one has just ham/ butter in a roll? A couple of slices of tomato/ cucumber or mustard mayo in a pinch.

SkippingOnSand · 30/09/2023 22:11

My DH does this when he makes himself a sandwich. That's fine.
If he did it when making a sandwich for me, then I would show him alternative uses for the butter knife, potentially a divorce would follow once I left the prison cell.

Lauralaaaa · 30/09/2023 22:12

He said and I quote “it’s a topper, why would it need grip?”

He also said he’s never had a sandwich where the bread falls off.

He seems very set in his ways unfortunately.

You know this is abusive, right?

Lauralaaaa · 30/09/2023 22:13

He says you can’t have butter and mayo together on a sandwich.

This keeps getting worse.

I love a nice crusty roll with just ham & butter in it. You can clearly identify each separate flavour. It’s pure & simple goodness.
Obviously I butter both sides lavishly

CrazyHamsterLady · 30/09/2023 22:14

I’m split on this issue, it definitely depends on the sandwich. If I’m having something like smoked salmon and cream cheese, I might not even do butter at all but definitely no more than one side. If it was a tuna sandwich then absolutely two sides of butter are required. Having been brought up in a house where dry, butter less, sandwiches were the norm, I’m fully aware of the importance of the situation 😆

WildCherryBlossom · 30/09/2023 22:16

You put butter on the bottom piece of bread snd mayo on the top piece.

Beckafett · 30/09/2023 22:16

I butter both. So does everyone I know- APART from my partner, which I found out in similar circumstances to you and I was aghast.

Daffyyellow · 30/09/2023 22:23

I’m not overly keen on butter but I still (sparingly) butter both pieces of bread. Sometimes it’s butter or mayo or cream cheese, whatever goes on BOTH pieces!

Well that escalated quickly!

SkippingOnSand · 30/09/2023 22:26

Can't have butter and mayo together on a sandwich?
Just what kind of a weirdo are you married to??
That's fighting talk!

TheChosenTwo · 30/09/2023 22:27

Bleurgh 😷
Of course both sides must be buttered! He’s a monster.
Also, after 12.5 hours on a Saturday night I’d be rather disappointed even with a ham roll with both sides buttered!

I'm always suspicious when the partner's evil nature emerges in real time.

Discwriter · 30/09/2023 22:31

LTB, don't leave the butter.

Lauralaaaa · 30/09/2023 22:32

@TheChosenTwo He made Fajitas as well which I’m going to take to work tomorrow thank fully

Do not get me started on how he folds the tortilla

That’s a new one 😂 Been married to the DH for 30+ years - he makes toast, too much butter, I scrape it off … but the important thing is he makes breakfast and does house cleaning. I forgive the butter technique

fuckssaaaaake · 30/09/2023 22:34

I only butter one side or it tastes too buttery. I normally have salad on top so the wetness of that makes it stick. Or salad cream, obvs

Ohthatsabitshit · 30/09/2023 22:37

@Lauralaaaa I’m just really really sorry. I don’t know what to say. I think he’s going to have to be neutralised. He could cause real damage.
