To want to take my 12kg dog in the plane cabin

I’m going to Europe this summer and I’d like to take my dog but I dont want to put the dog in the hold. There are a number of airlines that allow dogs in the cabin if they are under 10kg (KLM, AirFrance, ITA air).

does anyone know of an airline from UK to Europe that would take a 12kg dog?

thanks!

Clever dog. Is it called Muttley by any chance?

😂

Dandelionchaser · 30/09/2023 17:09

"we have our winter home in the Alps" "we have our summer home in the south of France" Jesus sounds like you should just use the private jet option

BettyBoomer · 30/09/2023 17:10

See below, which is KLM. Dog has to be 8kg or less.

Oh we could easily do that. Just want to make it super easy for everyone so we get more time in our second home. We have our winter home in the Alps and was thinking of going there in the summer with dog. Won’t be doing it in the winter as we will be skiing. We have our summer home in the South of France but it’s too hot for the dog. Dog will stay in UK home when we go there.

Obviously the answer to your dilemma is to just have a summer dog and a winter dog permanently in your holiday homes , or alternatively pop along to a local animal shelter and buy a temporary dog for the duration of your stay.

Then you are discriminatory. My assistance dog literally detects my heart stopping. That's "bullshit" is it? He is not an emotional support animal, he is a registered and trained assistance dog. Your comment is disgusting and offensive.

For those people discussing allergies, realistically, if an allergy is so severe that being in the same "airspace " as a dog will cause severe problems, then that person will struggle everyday and everywhere. Dog owners abound, and even a few stray hairs on the passenger opposite or next to you would set of the allergic reaction. It is practically impossible to ban anyone who had been near a dog from flying.

Bullshit.

I have a dog allergy. I manage pretty well in everyday life because I can remove myself from the vicinity of whatever dogs present themselves. I can't do that on a plane.

There's also a big difference between sitting next to someone who's got dog dander on their clothing and sitting next to am actual dog, even for those of us with more severe allergies.

You minimising of other people's health issues are just as disgusting and discriminatory as those attitudes you are criticising.

Yes that was you can be sure it matches your outfits

BettyBoomer · 30/09/2023 17:12

But who would look after them?! Oh I guess all the staff that we have (!)

You can take a 10kg dog in the cabin to Europe, in some airlines, but you cannot bring it back. They have to go in the hold. You would have to fly to an EU destination (eg. Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris) and take the ferry or train back.

@Ascendant15 No need to be cross with me - here is a link to the CAA website if you don't believe me.

https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers/prm/travelling-with-an-assistance-dog/

You are right @SophieStew , I'm not sure why you got that response.

The UK CAA does definitely allow assistance dogs in the cabin onboard UK registered aircraft and yes I've seen it done - last time it was a Long Haul flight, front row of Business Class FWIW.

I would be very happy to be sat next to a dog on a flight. No unpleasant conversations!

same,
I'd rather not get next to the:
drunk, lairy twat ( who does!)
BO king/ queen (🤢)
puking anybody( phobia)
screaming baby/ toddler( ptsd)

but I don't get to choose so ..

2jacqi · 30/09/2023 17:16

You might need to just buy your own plane then!!!!

Well, that is out of our budget. But no worries. I’ve found an airline that flies a 12kg doggo! So I’m delighted. And even more thrilled I’ve caused such excitement on this thread!

Have you worked out who I am?! I actually DO make sure doggo matches my outfits! You get matching jumpers from Next. Clearly, I don’t often shop in high street stores (good grief!), but for doggo and me, we look smashing!

A friend had a horrendous time bringing their dog back from a holiday by road, French authorities were obstructive and unpleasant. All paperwork was in order but still made them go to a vet mile's away. They made comments about 'this is what you voted for.'
He advised me against taking my dog abroad. I would be wary as she is a crossbreed whose predominant breed is restricted in a few countries anyway, so we only holiday here. Not a bully breed!
Until Brexit, he never had issues.

BettyBoomer · 30/09/2023 17:23

Thanks for that. We have a European passport for doggo so should be fine.

It is in mainland Europe. I flew Amsterdam to Athens last month and there were 2 dogs on the flight, neither of them were assistance dogs.

Just double check you can fly back into the UK. You'll be able to fly a small dog out that way, but to fly into the UK they have to fly in as manifest cargo (e.g. a cargo plane). So will be £75 on the way out and £2k on the way back 😬

Spanne · 30/09/2023 17:35

Dogs over whinging mumsnetters every time! I’d be overjoyed at a doggy neighbour on a plane.

Wouldn't have ann issue with a dog on a plane - enter than yhe precious kid kicking the back of my chair repeatedly during a 4 hour flight (yes I did ask the useless parent nicely once or twice)......

Oh look. I found it. The trusty "DoGs ArE BetTeR THaN KiDS" comment.

Give me strength 🤦🏼‍♀️🥱

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 30/09/2023 17:38

To answer the OP, and NRTFT.

Have you maybe thought about what other passengers 'want'?
I know I wouldn't want your bloody dog, or anyone else's for that matter, anywhere near me.

I swear dog owners are getting more entitled by the day.
