I understand why he earns that much. It make much more sense than lots if other salaries do.

JohnnyYenSetHimselfOnFireAgain · 30/09/2023 13:52

Yes, it's an obscene amount of money but he has a very special talent that allows him to be paid that. Compare him to the Kardashians, for example. What they 'earn' really is obscene because they're paid a fortune despite being utterly talentless. You can't say the same about the likes of Salah.

LyricalGangsta · 30/09/2023 13:55

Mo Salah, Mo Salah, Mo Salah
Running down the wing
Salah, lah, lah, lah, laaah

Shame he plays for such a horrible team with such horrible fans.

Really? Please explain. I'll wait.

Yes. I’ve never quite understood how come the Kardashians are so rich.

I understand why you responded to defend yourself here OP but really it's best not to give these cheap, divisive accusations of racism any head space whatsoever. You'd not bother if some religious fanatic called you a heretic for not going along with their coercive beliefs would you? Best to think about it in that way.

Love Salah, though not as much as Neymar and don't anyone come for me telling me nasty stories about him, I've heard them all 😁 and still think the man is perfection in a pair of football boots! ❤️

Neymar is the perfect example of a footballing mercenary.

Peasandmash · 30/09/2023 13:57

MorrisZapp · 30/09/2023 12:41

He's worth it. I'm not a football fan but have you seen his smile?

He lights up the whole world.

This.

Didn't take long for this to surface 🙄.
City winning trophies constantly gives them huge income, they earned £300m last season alone for their wonderful treble.
Not Citys fault the majority of other teams bottle competitions, especially the PL🤣.
Oh and for the record City have been self sufficient of HHSM funding for many years, unlike American owners he doesn't keep all the profits, it all goes back into the club.

Yeah, because City were such a powerful force before the oil money came along. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh not this again. Funny how nobody ever starts these posts outraged at the wealth and car collections of the Duke of Westminster or the Candy brothers. We see you OP. It's just the self-made African man who grinds your gears.

Your racism accusation is way out of order. I don’t actually care what country he or any other footballer earning this kind of wealth comes from. And yes the Duke of Westminster’s wealth is equally obscene.

Why is the income earned by the footballer - who has a remarkable skillset by virtue of being a top footballer with all the training, fitness, skill, talent and determination - deemed to be as undeserved as the fluke of being born to somebody rich?

Salah's paid that much because he's a remarkable player who generates wealth for the companies that pay him - the club through winning, through PR, through ticket sales, merchandise, making the club appealing to both future players and those who will never be that skilled but love what he and his club stand for, and the other companies because his endorsement leads to increased revenue.

The other just exists.

It's interesting that people feel the need to mention other exorbitant gains to justify this one. It is what it is and we have to accept it. Sad. As long as there are people paying to watch them do their 'great' work (chasing a ball or showing off their 'amazing' lives and bodies), they will continue to market useless things, people will continue to buy them, and they will continue to make a lot of money. The question here is not about who is making this exorbitant amount of money, but who are the stupid people paying for it.

Why are people "stupid" for paying to watch him and his team play?

Same could be said for any high paid actors...so when the vast if friends were earning £1m per episode... they weren't going great work...just remembering lines and pretending to feel and be someone.

Couldn't give a flying fuck tbh. As long as it's not tax payers money, who cares?

The real issue is low incomes and poverty in the U.K. not what a footballer earns.

Yup. Agree.

Oblomov23 · 30/09/2023 14:20

I'll let you know later. I'm off to see spurs v Liverpool now. So I'll let you know if he's worth it. Like L'Oréal. Wink

Efacsen · 30/09/2023 13:22

So what's so horrible about Liverpool fans?

Or is this just another awful Hillsborough slur

Why would you assume I'm talking about Hillsbrough?

BoohooWoohoo · 30/09/2023 14:23

who are the stupid people paying for it.

Just because you don't like football, it doesn't mean that it's stupid to like it. Other people could deem the stuff that you spend your money stupid.

You are also assuming that people spending money don't have it. I don't feel bad for big companies like Nike or Coca Cola paying $$$ because they have the cash.

JaneJeffer · 30/09/2023 14:23

but who are the stupid people paying for it
I take it you have never paid for something just for enjoyment then. Never bought a book or went to a concert or the cinema?

His value is in the fact he plays fantastic football.
People here maybe don't value football as a thing in their lives. But many people do.
Football is a huge thing in our society,.
Hundreds of thousands of people go to matches.
Millions watch .
Mo, is such a great advocate for the game.
Does he deserve his pay?
In the world of entertainment. He does.

Booing the national anthem? The entitlement? The victim mentality? The thuggery at Heysel that saw other English teams kicked out of Europe?

Booing the national anthem - couldn't give a shite about the establishment.

What entitlement? What victim mentality?

As for Heysel, lots did time for that. Was it one sided? Were Liverpool the only club to have hooligans following them?

I’m reading this thread just after reading about the single mum who has an 11 year old that currently can’t go to school because of autism. The mum also can’t afford to quit her job to homeschool said child because she has to pay all the bills.

Just one week of Mo Salah’s wage would completely change their lives, even a day’s wage might be enough.

That said, Mo Salah isn’t the problem here. The problem is that big football clubs have so much money they can afford to pay wages like this in the first place. I wonder how much they pay admin staff and cleaning staff in comparison for example. I also wonder how many of their other employees rely on benefits to cover bills. The inequality in the system is heartbreaking. Governments claim all the time to have no money. They should be doing more to take it from those that do so the country doesn’t fall apart.

Because it seems like Liverpool can't be mentioned on MN without someone popping up with a slur

Yet they can find a couple of hundred million for this, to use one example.
