Perfectly put. Thank you.

Please can we be looking at the likes of Manchester City as clubs if we are going to be bothered about the ethics of football and money?

Didn't take long for this to surface 🙄.
City winning trophies constantly gives them huge income, they earned £300m last season alone for their wonderful treble.
Not Citys fault the majority of other teams bottle competitions, especially the PL🤣.
Oh and for the record City have been self sufficient of HHSM funding for many years, unlike American owners he doesn't keep all the profits, it all goes back into the club.

HHSM?

Ah, Mansoor. I assumed Khalifa owned them.

I find King Charles wealth far far more distasteful than Mo Sallah’s

I’d rather Mo Sallah make that money than some faceless money man or from inherited wealth or drugs money or any number of other odious ways to make lots of money.

Exactly. Mo Sarah earns what he does because only a handful of people in the world can do what he does. He brings in millions so why shouldn’t he benefit from that?

The Royals on the other hand, millions of us could do what they do. I reckon I could make a fair stab at turning up, smiling nicely, shaking hands and stringing a few words together. And I don’t even particularly mind the royal family but they’re there through accident of birth and the judicious plundering of earlier generations.

Christ Almighty. Humanity really does have its priorities all wrong.

Since Salah has been playing for Liverpool research has shown a 20% drop in anti Muslim racist attacks in the city

He is an extremely generous man in the UK and Egypt - in the top 8 philanthropists in the UK

He's a UN Ambassador for diversity - mainly in education for women and girls

Maybe save your sour comments

That's sportswashing, which is reprehensible, totally different to what a player (or actor etc.) deservedly gets paid due to market forces.

Oh not this again. Funny how nobody ever starts these posts outraged at the wealth and car collections of the Duke of Westminster or the Candy brothers. We see you OP. It's just the self-made African man who grinds your gears.

Your racism accusation is way out of order. I don’t actually care what country he or any other footballer earning this kind of wealth comes from. And yes the Duke of Westminster’s wealth is equally obscene.

I understand why you responded to defend yourself here OP but really it's best not to give these cheap, divisive accusations of racism any head space whatsoever. You'd not bother if some religious fanatic called you a heretic for not going along with their coercive beliefs would you? Best to think about it in that way.

Love Salah, though not as much as Neymar and don't anyone come for me telling me nasty stories about him, I've heard them all 😁 and still think the man is perfection in a pair of football boots! ❤️

PickleDig · 30/09/2023 13:05

Yanbu. I never understand why there isn't more outrage about footballer salaries, whereas City finance salaries, lawyers etc get given a hard time.

DoItAgainPlz · 30/09/2023 13:06

Shame he plays for such a horrible team with such horrible fans.

LimeCheesecake · 30/09/2023 13:07

@BadLad its not is it? If we will accept that some businesses will bring in huge amounts of money, why not the people who work for them get lots of it rather than owners/shareholders?

it’s like the threads on bankers bonuses - i remembered reading one thread when a poster pointed out the bonuses often worked out at 1-2% commission on what the bankers had earned for their bank- why on earth would anyone think it’s more moral for that money to go to shareholders rather than part of it go to the person who’s work produced it?

Efacsen · 30/09/2023 13:09

He's a cat-lover too - he's got 2 gorgeous Ragdolls and the most enormous catio on his Twitter

myrtleWilson · 30/09/2023 13:10

How am I horrible @DoItAgainPlz ?

LimeCheesecake · 30/09/2023 13:12

@PickleDig - I don’t think anyone who isn’t publicly funded should have their salaries questioned or seen as immoral. Companies rarely pay people more than they are worth, most businesses are good at going the other way, making sure they make more from the staff member than they pay them.

if we pay bankers or footballers or musicians or actors less, what do those who think their wages are too high think will happen to the rest of that money? Where will it go and how is that a better plan than an employee getting it?

It’s usually because of snobbery - some people just don’t think working class people deserve to achieve that level of wealth. They don’t like anyone “getting above themself”.

How am I horrible @DoItAgainPlz ?

Because Liverpool fans stood up to applaud their bitterest rivals’ star striker in sympathy for his losing a baby the season before last.

By the end of the game, the United fans were singing about the Hillsborough disaster.

No wait, he/she is talking out of her arse.

Neighbours87 · 30/09/2023 13:21

Why is it always footballers who are called out for their extreme salaries? Anything they earn is taxed unlike the gazillionaires who own the clubs and keep their money abroad. Is it because they’re mostly from working class background unlike other ridiculous high earning professions such as banking

feathermucker · 30/09/2023 13:22

Why Salah specifically? He's not the highest earner in the Premier League and pales into insignificance compared to the Saudi wages or Mbappe?

DeeCee77 · 30/09/2023 13:22

It's a minority who think that though. You very rarely hear anyone critique what a player gets paid (an exception being it they are pretty crap).

Messi, billionaire, and deservedly so. If millions buy his stuff (Messi 10 Argentina jersey selling out worldwide during the last World Cup, generating enormous profits for Adidas and forcing them to manufacture more), he deserves a slice of the profits.

So what's so horrible about Liverpool fans?

Or is this just another awful Hillsborough slur

Viviennemary · 30/09/2023 13:23

It's a lot but it doesn't bother me that much because I'm not contributing to it. The royals getting money from us really annoys me. I don't care if it's 10p a year it's 10p too much.

Liverpool are an incredible team with an incredible and brilliant manager. (And I’m a Londoner but I LOVE them)

DeeCee77 · 30/09/2023 13:42

feathermucker · 30/09/2023 13:26

Why am I horrible, do explain?!

Its nonsense...similar to what I'd say about Man U fans.

Tribalism is the bedrock of football fandom so such comments are par for the course.

We have the most famous anthem in all of sport, the most famous stand in British football, provide more colour and sounds in the ground than any other club in England, and are one of the two most talked about clubs in the country.

There is nothing like Anfield in England, and fans around the world know it.

Ascendant15 · 30/09/2023 13:48

Given the number of people who earn this amount and more - many for sitting on their arses doing nothing - are you more offended by the amount he earns or the fact he isn't white?

Truthfully I don't think anyone "deserves" this amount of money (rampant leftie here), but I'm against anyone getting this much money whilst people live in poverty. I'll start with the Prime Minister and the King first though....
