Are we also worried about what Tom Hanks or Brad Putt earn per film.

The reality is that market forces drive their salaries.

The real issue is low incomes and poverty in the U.K. not what a footballer earns.

If you don't go to football, buy football related items etc..... then it's not costing you anything.

I agree it's obscene wealth, but if that's what the market dictates for a player then none of us would turn it down would we?

Ah this is a frequent discussion with my family so here I go...
Football is a sport that vast swathes of the world play. We aren't not talking about people like Salah being in the top 1% of the skill level it's more like 0.01% and he's actually doing something to earn it.
So although it's seems a ridiculous amount of money he is literally in the top 5 players in the world. And also a lovely man.

What about actors, other footballers, models, ceos or the other ( selct) roles that generate the same income?

He is an asset and they pay for his skills. Your skill set is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Football is a private enterprise they can pay their players whatever they like

If he wasn't paid £1m then won't the money that he "earns" for the club go to the TV broadcasters and club instead? If he makes the club more than a million a week (ticket sales, tv rights, shirts etc) then he should be paid a million. He's hardly the only professional on a 7 figure salary- do the others like movie stars, models and CEOs deserve it?

I think any footballer earning that amount of money is ridiculous. I also think that famous people who earn shedloads of money is also ridiculous, particularly when they flaunt their wealth by being profligate and wasting so much of it.

But I don’t know whether any of these people donate to charities, or help those in need at all. Maybe some people have so much money, they can afford to give vast swathes of it away.

I value kindness, intelligence, empathy, consideration and caring above wealth. Who knows; they might be wealthy and have all those qualities.

Big companies like Nike and Coca-Cola have massive marketing budgets and hire elite athletes all the time. Why not Mo Salah? In the case of football players, they are often grew up in poor working class households so why would be begrudge their phenomenal financial success? 🤷‍♀️

I'm not a football fan, but we do have to accept that the market decides. Football is a huge business, that generates incredible revenue and employs lots of people other than just the players. If someone thinks Mo Salah is worth £1 million a week, then that is what he should be paid. Saying that he shouldn't have it because the rest of us earn nothing like that much is just "the politics of envy", which is unattractive.

A very quick google will reveal that he's also incredibly philanthropic with his money. So yes he earns a lot but he gives a lot. There are so many people of extreme wealth who do absolutely nothing for others. I'd target them first.

I don't mind it.

He's worked hard from being a little kid to be that good at his job, some natural talent too of course.

The money comes from the profits football makes, he's not being paid by the tax payer.

If he pays his taxes then it's all good.

It would be good if he used a portion of it for good causes and not mindless consumption and maybe be does....who knows?

Mo Salah gives millions away to charity. He's funded a lot of various projects in Egypt too. And pays due taxes.

It's also about a third of that in actual salary and the rest in different commercial sponsorship deals.

He will have practiced loads and given up tens of thousands of hours of his free time to improving his skills.
Would you have given up your childhood for a chance to hit the big time? (Ignore the fact that female players don't command the same amounts of money ) Most people wouldn't and even those who play football for fun are happy enough with a match on Saturday and a practice or two during the week. Salah is clearly the top 0.01% in the world's most played sport. I have no interest in football but why not him?

I also think celebrities making huge money are a drop in the ocean compared to the real wealthy who are making money through banking/real estate and other means and try to organise society for their own benefit to keep themselves Uber Rich

Oh not this again. Funny how nobody ever starts these posts outraged at the wealth and car collections of the Duke of Westminster or the Candy brothers. We see you OP. It's just the self-made African man who grinds your gears.

To put his salary in context, Egypt has a population of over 100 million and Mo Salah is almost certainly the most famous Egyptian ever. Millions around the world buy his likeness on shirts, football cards and video games. People who have never watched a game of football know who Mo Salah is. People who aren't Liverpool supporters follow his career. Is he not supposed to benefit from the wealth and income he personally has generated?
