He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

Also they gave him a KCB. He outranks Mogg, Duncan Smith, Fabricant who are simple KB.

I mean if you care about honours KS got a proper gong as opposed to the others...

Labour had bankrupted the country by then and the conservatives were voted into restore order - sadly we then needed ten years of sacrifice.

I am always incredulous that the pp on here have the audacity to blame the austerity required because of their party’s incompetence!!!!!!

The Global financial Crash started in the USA and affected much of the Western world, Tories, at the time, supported Browns responses BUT only the UK has had 13 years (and counting) of Austerity, most of Europe had 3 or 4 years...

...but you Tories believe in a "Small State" and this was a perfect opportunity to slash the state sector, so we now have 8m on waiting lists, super high tuition fees, terrible roads, crumbling schools and some of the highest property taxes in Europe, which proportionately, hit the smaller houses the hardest.

"...But Labour" yet again.. fortunately most people see through your lies.... you had 10 years before CV and you'd already wrecked the country by then, not least because of your idiotic Brexit, then you gave us Truss who has cost home owners and those with pensions a small fortune in extra costs and lower values.

We dispelled that myth some time ago. You just look foolish by continuing to promulgate it.

For some perhaps but there are still large numbers of voters who will blame Labour for the GFC and Austerity, the more this narrative is pushed, the more people will believe it... and they call Starmer a liar!!!

bombastix · 02/10/2023 14:04

Tbh some of you should be joining the policy discussion we are have elsewhere; much more fun.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2023 14:52

"Sir" Keir? @Lastchancechica his name is not Starm either.

jgw1 · 02/10/2023 15:45

AdamRyan · 02/10/2023 12:41

But he is a sir, knighted for his time as DPP.
Unless you are going to apply the same logic to "Sir" Jacob Rees Mogg, "Sir" John Redwood, "Sir" Michael Fabricant, "Sir" Iain Duncan Smith, "Dame" Angela Eagle, "Lady" Theresa May etc etc

I am sure @Lastchancechica will join me in condeming the whole rotten honours system and particularly the way in which the House of Lords has been used to reward those who donate large sums of money (sometimes of dubious origin) to the Tory party.

Failing to insure against debt wasn't a difference in opinion. Shame you won't acknowledge that.

This.

You said people have a lack of knowledge on politics tizz. Then made a huge mistake posting a sarcastic thread about insuring debt.

Just accept we are ALL wrong at times and it's best for everyone that incorrect facts are corrected.

You were the one who started saying that. I actually agree with you. But it also applies to you!

Now we have Mark Harper telling us all that the Tories will scrape the plan that will force people to only shop on certain days and within 15mins of their homes...

Though no council has actually proposed this...

There was a Minister on the PM programme, I didn't catch who or which department, possibly the Ministry for Making stuff up and lying about it, trying to defend this. The interviewer very doggedly kept asking who had proposed only allowing granny to shop on Tuesdays at 11.32am, but strangely the Minister for Nonsense wasn't able to give an answer. But did tell us it could happen.
It could also happen that I became a giraffe, and probably the latter is more likely.

I take it the government so keen on long term plans this morning has a long term plan for a routine at the Edinburgh fringe next year?

Alexandra2001 · 02/10/2023 18:04

@jgw1 Its actually quite scary, something out of Nazi Germany, stirring up hatred, division by lying about imaginary issues... plenty of people will believe them, i guess its why they do it.

AdamRyan · 02/10/2023 18:15

It's kinda weird that the Tories decentralised so much to get rid of "big government" and now want to stop local communities implementation their own solutions by imposing national control.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2023 18:16

It is a shame that you can’t see that the government were fire fighting covid ( which is not over by the way) and no one could make ‘long term’ plans because we had no idea what was going to happen in the short term much less the long term. Some people have such poor memory recall.

Is it only who must have missed the first decade of the pandemic then? 🙄

bombastix · 02/10/2023 18:19

Is there any evidence that the 15 minute theory will appeal to anyone who is outside the current rump of people who still vote Conservative? I think it's unlikely to pull in new votes, but it would confirm people voting Conservative.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2023 18:27

I see that he's facing another by election. Scott Benton is likely to be suspended for 10 days. Mind you he ditched the Conservative Whip before he had it removed from him.

73% of voters aren't interested in trans and other wedge issues from research published today

Amazingly this thread got to Page 26 without a Labour don't know what a woman is' incursion

Do you really believe Rachael Reeves doesn't know who she is? or Mrs Starmer? or Stamer's sister?

Its just a Tory sound bite, designed to lure in the gullible.

Are they putting up a good fight over HS2 or wrecking their election chances in order to cut Inheritance tax?

It is amazing how RAAC in schools is entirely the responsibility of Head Teachers, but the government has decreed whether or not pupils should be allowed to use mobile phones.

It putting in a good fight is facing losing 200 MPs, I would hate to see what flailing around with no discernible direction looked like.

But true!!!!!!!

There is no mistaking women will NOT exist under Labour.

Anyone voting Labour should their eyes wide open to what they will lose. Their rights, identity and dignity.

This is not a small thing!!!
For 300,000 years we have been fighting to be heard!!!!

@Lastchancechica I think you may have missed my post earlier asking whether it is just knighthoods you dislike or the whole shambolic honours system?
Will you join me in condeming the giving of peerages to those who give large sums of money to polictical parties?
