To intensely dislike Rishi Sunak?

He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

How do you know the YouGov Poll is the most accurate?

Britain Elects
Westminster voting intention:

LAB: 39% (-2)
CON: 29% (+3)
LDEM: 12% (+1)
GRN: 7% (nc)
REF: 7% (-1)

@AdamRyan You are not correct. The Labour’s building schools for the future was based on location and not wholly on condition. Most projects were in Labour areas. This is why schools had not looked for RAAC or even undertaken proper surveys. It wasn’t about condition! Some poor buildings are easy to spot of course but it wasn’t addressing the worst buildings. Mostly secondary schools are academies: Converters or MATs or forced! They do have health and safety responsibilities. It’s not wholly the fault of the government. There is devolved responsibility. If schools are not academies they still have H&S responsibility.

"It’s not wholly the fault of the government" is seriously scraping the barrel in terms of excuses.

Opinions, not facts

That's what I posted -
it appears to be a fact that people on the left of the Labour Party think Keir Starmer is a liar:

think
^verb^
1.have a particular opinion, belief, or idea about someone or something.

I caught [an interview] when he was steadfastly refusing to admit that nowhere has a blanket 20 mph speed limit

I didn't catch the interview, but did he mean proposals such as this;

Surrey County Council is considering reducing the speed limits from 30mph to 20mph on most roads
A default 20mph speed limit could be introduced to most roads in Surrey’s towns and villages
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cml1g0kdy9go

Yes, an opinion is not a fact. What on earth is your point?

No, he wasn't talking about Surrey. As has already been pointed out, that is clearly not a blanket 20 mph speed limit.

Alexandra2001
Surrey ... a Tory council and "roads in towns and villages" is NOT all roads in Surrey...

Sunak said 'areas' - I suppose it depends how you define areas -

"I think imposing a blanket 20 mile-an-hour speed limit on areas is absolutely not right. It doesn't reflect people's priorities."

I don't think even Sunak would be stupid enough to claim that he meant potentially small areas. It would make him sound seriously idiotic if he claimed to know more about the roads in every village and town than their inhabitants and councillors.

Straws and clutching come to mind.

This silly thread was started in direct retaliation to the thread about ‘Sir’ Keir. It even used the same title using a different name of course. People do not like Starm as it turns out, 60% voted that they ‘intensely’ disliked him.

The anger and resentment on here is because it’s only just landing with the Labour supporters on the forum now deeply unpopular Starmer is, and this might well cost them another election!

The Labour Party knew years ago he was an electoral lame duck, but they couldn’t replace him because of the infighting between hard left and centrists. He was the only acceptable middle ground despite serious fraying around the edges.

And.now it is a simmering pot of disunity unable to agree on any policies whatsoever. It is scary to note that the election campaign could start as early as 6 weeks time and they still haven’t even have an agreed vision or direction.

These threads are a sign of desperation, as the polls slam into reverse and Starm lisps through one blunder after another.

Comedy is alive and well.

The Chancellor was on the radio this morning saying that what we need is long term plans and that is what has been wrong with government for a long time.

Quite how he squares that with having been in government for the past 13 years I am not sure. Has he only just noticed that flip flopping on public spending is a bad idea?
This week we will fund trains, next week we wont.
Oh I know we will phase out the internal combustion engine cars by 2030, actually no you can still buy them after 2030, but manufactureres will not be able to sell them to you.

Long term planning? What?

Fightyouforthatpie · 02/10/2023 12:02

BBC Radio pointed this out earlier by mentioning that Liz Truss had said she was all about the long term this time last year ;)

It is a shame that you can’t see that the government were fire fighting covid ( which is not over by the way) and no one could make ‘long term’ plans because we had no idea what was going to happen in the short term much less the long term. Some people have such poor memory recall.

They planned to build or refurbish every secondary school in england and knew about the risks of RAAC over the next 10-20 years.

Why didn't Labour's 2015 manifesto reinstate the £55bn Building Schools for the Future plan?

Nothing to say about Gove's decision to scrap the school rebuilding programme? The manifesto promise was to protect the entire education budget.

Labour had bankrupted the country by then and the conservatives were voted into restore order - sadly we then needed ten years of sacrifice.

I am always incredulous that the pp on here have the audacity to blame the austerity required because of their party’s incompetence!!!!!!

Do keep up with your own posts. This was in the context of a discussion where you were doing your usual cut and paste but using as evidence expressions of opinion, which obviously don't evidence anything. However, you've confirmed yet again that you can't actually produce anything substantive in support of Sunak, so that's fine.

Oh, what a surprise.

@Lastchancechica you can't have your cake and eat it. The poll on your thread showed 60% agreement with the statement that Keir Starmer is to be disliked. You gleefully stated that this meant the Tories would win a GE because the poll was clearly accurate. This thread is currently showing a 75% dislike rate for Rishi Sunak. 75 is more than 60, so by your logic the Tories are clearly going to lose the next GE.

Or you could just accept that mumsnet threads are not polling tools and look at monthly aggregate polls instead, given their track record of getting it right.

Talking of memory recall, what exactly stopped the government making long term plans from 2013 to 2020? If you are seriously claiming that no-one in government has had any idea of what would happen in the short or long term over the last two years, then you are indeed admitting to serious failure on their part.

Fightyouforthatpie · 02/10/2023 12:17

On the contrary, the economy was in good shape in 2010. The Building Schools for the Future programme was properly costed and budgeted for, there was no valid economic reason for scrapping it.

But for the fact that I acknowledge that Tory supporters are absolutely desperate and can't find any other way to justify their party's spectacular incompetence, I would be incredulous that Tory supporters are still trying to blame Tory failures on the previous government after their party has been in power for well over 13 years.

And SOME more likely MOST posters can and do leave threads without needing to announce it

And don't need/want to signal that they have 'real lives' because everyone has a 'real life'

Furthermore majority of PP likely aren't interested in your comings and goings or your 'real life'

He lacks understanding and I always detect a smirk when it's explained to him how people are suffering and trying to choose between heating and eating he simply looks like he doesn't care.

And yet it's still going principally because of people like you.

Just don't post on it if you can't stand people pointing out what a fuckwit Rishi is.

That's an understatement and a half, these threads are still going almost entirely because of lastchance.

They've posted over 320 times since Friday, all in defence of the tories, and had the cheek to accuse other people of "spending their lives posting on mumsnet".

Talk about desperate.

But he is a sir, knighted for his time as DPP.
Unless you are going to apply the same logic to "Sir" Jacob Rees Mogg, "Sir" John Redwood, "Sir" Michael Fabricant, "Sir" Iain Duncan Smith, "Dame" Angela Eagle, "Lady" Theresa May etc etc

After all, there were those that thought the Tories were finished after Tony Blair’s landslide victory in 1997. They weren’t, it turned out!

They were a united sensible party comprised of adults in 1997, looking back on them I could vote for those Tories. They’re a rabble of undisciplined, infighting parodies now. They need to be out of power for their own sakes now, then they’ll either kick out the worst or implode. If they carry on like this they’re absolutely finished because if they can’t hold together in power, they certainly won’t manage it in opposition.

We’ll, they were hopelessly divided over Europe then and needed a period in opposition, which they got. The ‘bastards’ were already causing trouble even then.

They are in a much worse position now, admittedly, especially since BoJo removed all the competent party members, and they definitely need to go! They have become a party of right-wing nutcases.

I still think it’s premature to write them off permanently, this is a party that has been around for a very long time.

bombastix · 02/10/2023 12:56

Keir Starmer was knighted under a Conservative government
