He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

Sunak was one of the few dayboys at Winchester - I'm assuming his parents couldn't afford the boarding fees. There was a longstanding Mumsnetter with a son at Winchester College - I think she said her son received a substantial bursary on a household income of around £60,000. I wouldn't rule out that the Sunak's had received some sort of bursary/fee reduction at the time - they wouldn't let on now if they had - although of course, school fees have risen considerably since the 1990s.

Keir Starmer and his wife both attended private schools - Starmer's mother-in- law was a GP - just like Sunak's father.

Does Sunak not know how his fees were paid? You seemed quite put out that Starmer couldn't remember that when his state school turned into a private school.

peachypudding · 01/10/2023 11:34

I think he seems fairly innocuous. Seems to have more integrity than a lot of politicians.

I wish people would at least try Google before posting nonsense.

Sunack himself talks about the fact his parents had to pay the fees.

Starmer went to a Grammar school which became fee paying when he was in the 6th form. Anyone who was already at the school did not need to pay any fees.

And if you wish to talk about In-laws, let’s talk about the Sunaks, those multi billionaire, Russian supporters.

Really cannot be arsed arguing with these people

That's funny because you keep bothering me - you even mentioned my name when I wasn't on a thread. Why did you start up your own political thread a few days ago if you can't be bothered to argue? Just stamping your feet and bossing people around.

Could you explain your perception of his integrity in the light of his political behaviour and parliamentary history?

He has all the integrity of a paper straw. He's corrupt as fuck as is record shows.

He received a FPN for breaking Covid laws

I've googled - have you?

Starmer was born in September 1962 - Reigate Grammar School converted to a fee-paying independent school in 1976 - so he clearly wasn't in the sixth form at the time.

Clav knows all about Starmer's school

Sunak, lying or hasn't got a clue 🤔

Rishi Sunak, "The best taxt cut that I can deliver for the British people is to halve inflation."

Laura Kuenssberg, "Inflation is not a tax"

Rishi Sunak, "Inflation is a tax"

He received a FPN for breaking Covid laws

Keir Starmer was having a beer and curry with 16 other people less than 2 weeks after Prince Philip's funeral. Starmer lied about how many people were there - he originally said "about 6" - he lied when he said his hotel was not serving food that evening (the hotel was serving food on the terrace until 9pm) and he lied when he said no restaurants and pubs were open (they were open for outside service and he ate at a restaurant the evening before in Hull).

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 12:00

Instead of this whataboutery @Clavinova could you perhaps answer the question I put to anyone who thinks Sunak is decent or has integrity?

Keir Starmer did NOT break the law

I know that is hugely upsetting for you but Johnson and Sunak did break the law

Certainly - I think Sunak is a nice, decent guy.
Now I have other things to be getting on with.

BIossomtoes · 01/10/2023 12:04

Fuck me, are we back at Keir’s beer again? Change the record, Clav, we’ve already endured months of this nonsense.

I wouldn't engage with her whataboutery. It's what she wants.

Perhaps you can answer my question @Clavinova . It's about Sunak - the subject of the thread.

For the people that actually live and work here.

They aren't for me and I'm a 64 chartered accountant currently working as a project manager for a bank.
They aren't for my Mum and MIL who are in their 80s with care needs.
They aren't for my small business owning DH with a chronic health condition.
They aren't for my self employed brother and SIL.
They aren't for BIL whose business was wrecked by Brexit.
They aren't for my DS and his partner currently paying over £1k a month rent for a 1 bed flat.
Apart from DSs partner we were all born here and have worked all their lives. DSs partner came here aged 5 when her parents set up a business here and has worked all her life.

You haven't explained that perception in the light of his political record and parliamentary behaviour.

However I note that you now conveniently have other things to be getting on with, as @Lastchancechica did earlier.

Let's be fair who really would want to be an mp? And then could suddenly be put in charge of running the country and jobs swapped around for the cabinet every few months?

It's not how you would run a company -swapping around execs and then replacing them with a completely fresh team after 10 years who wanted to pursue a totally different strategy!

(I know civil servants stay the same who do have experience)
It's a strange system. And clearly only slightly strange over confident people go for the top job. As you'd have to be slightly mad to want it.

They don't just randomly pick a PM from backbench MPs.

As for
It's not how you would run a company -swapping around execs and then replacing them with a completely fresh team after 10 years who wanted to pursue a totally different strategy!

In over 40 years of working life that is EXACTLY how most companies I've worked for in tech and finance operate. Senior Managers regularly reorganise and switch roles so they never have to actually follow through any of their shit ideas.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 12:13

DuncinToffee · 01/10/2023 12:09

And Sunak defended him until Pincher

And then Sunak, unlike Javid, walked out of his job while not informing Number 10 and letting it break in the media first. That's the action of a self serving coward, not of a decent man.
