To intensely dislike Rishi Sunak?

He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

Instead of this whataboutery @ Clavinova could you perhaps answer the question I put to anyone who thinks Sunak is decent or has integrity?

Certainly - I think Sunak is a nice, decent guy.
Now I have other things to be getting on with.

Of course you do.

I'm sure you'll never have time to say why you think he's a thouroughy decent guy.

But that just answers the question anyway 🤷‍♀️😂

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 12:15

No one who thinks he has integrity or is a decent man has tried to justify his political behaviour and parliamentary history.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 13:04

Still silence.

How interesting.

Alexandra2001 · 01/10/2023 13:43

Where someone goes to school and who pays, is normally outside of a child's influence.

So i couldn't care less where either Sunak or Starmer were educated or what their parents did for a living..... what matters is their ideas and policies for the country.

Sunak has a terrible record, he stalled and prevaricated over public service pay, froze loan thresholds and min wages before loan payments begin... keeping NHS staff even poorer, adding to staff pressures as people leave.... even now, refuses to negotiate with Junior Doc's and Consultants, he doesn't care how this affects ordinary people... its his way or Fuck off! the arrogance of the man!

He has also done nothing to improve pay for Carers, the main reason so many have left.

He governs for the wealthy & thats why he will lose the next GE.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 13:54

Well said @Alexandra2001

No one seems to want to come back to defend Sunak's record though or defend his decency and integrity. Funny that.

Funny how they all have to go out when that question is asked.😄

Isn't it just? Even if they've found the time to contribute to other political threads since their return. 😁

DuncinToffee · 01/10/2023 14:36

The other thread is nearly full, guess that saves them from answering questions on refugees so then can concentrate on telling us what they like about Sunak

Passepartoute · 01/10/2023 14:37

YANBU. He is just as much a liar as Johnson was, he's just slightly better at disguising it.

He will also jump on literally any bandwagon if he thinks it will get him votes. It was noticeable in his original campaign against Truss, when he was prepared to come up with whatever extremist policies the right wing members of the Tory part wanted to hear. The latest one is all the bolllocks about supporting the motorist, because he perceives that that was why they won one of the last batch of by-elections - also of course there are more car owners in Bedfordshire than elsewhere. If there was a by-election coming up in a particular poor constituency with bad traffic pollution, he would so obviously do a total U-turn.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 09:10

Tweedy???

I think you have mixed up the decade you are in dear.
Always problematic when you haven’t stepped foot in England for so many years.

If you want to claim that you know more about England than others, it would be a good idea to get your English phraseology right. No-one "steps foot". It's "set foot".

Moosesrock · 01/10/2023 09:27

Just watching him on the BBC. Have to say i disagree completely - this guy is consistent and solid and seems to be sensible and trying to do the right thing. Why is everyone in this country so keen to whine and complain. He is better than Boris and WAY better than Truss. Decent guy making sensible decisions and bringing some stability back to politics - go Rishi and good luck at the conference.

"Be better than Johnson and Truss" is an incredibly low bar to set. Face it, there are very few MPs who would be worse although, worryingly, they include at least two Sunak appointees.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 14:49

@Moosesrock is among several posters who haven't been able to justify their assertion that Sunak is a decent person in the light of his political record and parliamentary behaviour.

bombastix · 01/10/2023 14:51

@Passepartoute - I just find this odd. How could someone who supports the Conservatives not know of its country roots?

Passepartoute · 01/10/2023 14:53

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 10:11

The fact you so easily degrade Rishi’s achievements and the importance of racial equality says everything about YOU.

Your post is verging on or is quite possibly racist. You are saying that his heritage makes him a ‘superficial choice’ but that is very far from the truth, he is an extremely capable, intelligent man of considerable integrity. He also comes across to me at least as being a very kind person. These are creditable qualities in a leader.

Given the opportunity in the next election with a full mandate, I think Sunak will go on to achieve great things for us yes, and run our country with professional integrity. The fact he is our first PM of colour is secondary to his ability and intellect but it’s far from insignificant.

How could a "very kind person" even bear to be in the same room as Braverman, let alone give her free reign to come up with the disgustingly inhumane policies and opinions she produces?

Passepartoute · 01/10/2023 14:55

Our economy is growing, we have thousands and thousand of jobs available.

The fact that we have an awful lot of unfilled essential jobs has fuck all to do with the economy, and everything to do with Brexit.

jgw1 · 01/10/2023 14:57

I see the satire is strong on this thread from some posters.

Sunak has integrity and I am the Pope.

bombastix · 01/10/2023 14:58

Well I don't know what to think - it seems better in my view to judge someone on what they do as opposed to their background, race, sex or sexuality.

That is more objective and fair.

Passepartoute · 01/10/2023 15:00

Have you EVER seen a female Labour leader? Nope.

Given the way the Tories have treated all three of their female leaders, I don't think they're in any position to boast.

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 15:03

@Lastchancechica hasnt returned to explain his considerable integrity in the light of his political record and parliamentary behaviour yet.

DuncinToffee · 01/10/2023 15:07

Rachel Reeves could become the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Sunak was one of the few dayboys at Winchester - I'm assuming his parents couldn't afford the boarding fees. There was a longstanding Mumsnetter with a son at Winchester College - I think she said her son received a substantial bursary on a household income of around £60,000. I wouldn't rule out that the Sunak's had received some sort of bursary/fee reduction at the time - they wouldn't let on now if they had - although of course, school fees have risen considerably since the 1990s.

Keir Starmer and his wife both attended private schools - Starmer's mother-in- law was a GP - just like Sunak's father.

How did Sunak manage to be a day boy at Winchester given that they've only just begun admitting day pupils for the first time, and are limiting it to the sixth form?

Incl According to Tatler, Mr Sunak missed out on the scholarship to Winchester and his parents paid the fees themselves

Inside Rishi Sunak's early years and prestigious schooling

The new Prime Minister went to the prestigious private school, Winchester College, before reading Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford.

Clavinova
"Keir Starmer and his wife both attended private schools"

In 1974, Keir won a place at Reigate Grammar School, which would become independent during his time there. Those who were already pupils were allowed to continue, with their fees paid by the local council.

Or perhaps the details are more accurate here;

He was born in Southampton, where his father was a GP and his mother a pharmacist. She bought her own pharmacy when he was a teenager, and he did the accounts for her. He went to Winchester, the boarding school...

Unusually, he went as a day boy because Winchester is only a few miles from the northern suburbs of Southampton. One friend of his from school says: “He was remarkably similar to today: hyper-competent, good at pretty much everything, with a gift for getting on with people.”

... This friend says “it was a sign of the esteem in which he was held that he was made head boy despite being a day boy”. Nine out of 10 boys at the school were boarders, yet it was Sunak who was chosen, by the headmaster, to be the school’s first Indian-origin head boy.
