To intensely dislike Rishi Sunak?

He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

Me too.

IClaudine · 30/09/2023 10:17

Most of his own party don't like him much either, they are already jostling for a post GE leadership battle.

YANBU, that man flings out policy ideas like a pigeon in need of a major shit.

itsgettingweird · 30/09/2023 10:21

Yanbu.

I expect the person running the country to do something useful for the people of that country.

He changes his mind so often (2 hours for the winter fuel payment?) I doubt he can decide what to have for breakfast.

AdamRyan · 30/09/2023 10:22

It's hard to add anything without it being too personal.
I dislike him mainly for the damage his policies are going to do to the planet, his unapologetic flying everywhere, and the fact he doesn't reign in his crazy Home Secretary.
Plus the fact he has abjectly failed to meet any of the 5 goals he said to hold him accountable for:

  1. Halving inflation
  1. Economy growing
  2. Debt falling
  3. Cut NHS waiting lists
  4. Stop small boats

Shinyandnew1 · 30/09/2023 10:22

Yes, me too. I think he is hopelessly out of touch and a dreadful leader. Integrity…. I think not!

It would be interesting to see how much more money he and his wife have made since he got into power.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2023 10:26

I don't know the man personally-he might be lovely. Why I dislike is his policies, the people he surrounds himself with and the way modern Tories are rewriting the fundamental philosophical basis of the Tory party. Many old school One Nation feel the same.

IClaudine · 30/09/2023 10:27

I think part of the problem is he didn't get to be Chancellor and then PM through hard work, political experience and talent. Johnson made him Chancellor because he knew he would do what Johnson told him. Then the Tories fished him out of the bottom of the barrel of potential leaders without even having a leadership contest.

I find it weird to dislike him intensely
I tend to think most of them either side are trying their best and it's a hard job.

They are probably in it for good reasons even if they don't do what people like.

(People like trump excluded)

So I think this is a case of play the ball, not the man.

StillWantingADog · 30/09/2023 10:28

Yeah. I previously thought he was a vast improvement on the last two but the last few days has shown his true colours I think .
going for populist bullshit and unable to put together a coherent argument. Doesn’t give a fuck about net zero.

Doesn’t have the balls to rein in people like Braverman and Cain with their disgusting rhetoric

i know he’s obscenely rich and out of touch- that element doesn’t bother me as much weirdly.

IClaudine · 30/09/2023 10:29

burnoutbabe I don't agree. Anyone who stands behind a lectern emblazoned with "Stop the Boats" is despicable.

I know a lot of politicians are media trained (I guess they have to be) but he takes question deflecting to another level

At times he is completely unwilling to even answer a question, he has rehearsed cliches and sentences designed to avoid answering a question or giving non-answers

He is very deceitful but when your old boss was Boris Johnson and you are a member of the Conservatives it’s a badge of honour

MossyMo · 30/09/2023 10:30

He reminds me of Mr Burns in the Simpsons.
Weirdly during the pandemic I thought he was taller and more attractive, must've been standing next to Boris.

Thebigblueballoon · 30/09/2023 10:30

I’ve yet to meet somebody who does like him. He reminds me of one of those blow up stick men things that just flails around in the wind.

Doing there best for who though?

certainly not the average person in this country!

bills up, mortgages up, crime up, antisocial Behaviour not tackled, multiple professions striking and whatever you do don’t get ill!

Let's be fair who really would want to be an mp? And then could suddenly be put in charge of running the country and jobs swapped around for the cabinet every few months?

It's not how you would run a company -swapping around execs and then replacing them with a completely fresh team after 10 years who wanted to pursue a totally different strategy!

(I know civil servants stay the same who do have experience)
It's a strange system. And clearly only slightly strange over confident people go for the top job. As you'd have to be slightly mad to want it.

I was surprised by how small he is, when he became PM so was being photographed in more contexts. Perhaps he was standing on a podium in 'next slide please' days.

This aside, I don't like or trust any of the present government. Rishi exists in a bubble of wealth privilege - he has no relevance to the real world.

Sunak wasn't suddenly put in charge of running the country, he campaigned for it

I think that is a fair point and perhaps a good argument for PR instead of FPTP.

YANBU to dislike him as a politician. He is a steward who has been given everything in life and now seems surprised that people are not more grateful to have him as their appointed (but not elected) leader. He is also just crap at politics. His policies are deeply cynical culture wars stuff, looking for division and not aiming to unite people. Does anyone believe his latest tack towards climate denying policy "supporting motorists" is anything other than a knee jerk reaction to the Uxbridge by-election and a desperate attempt to move the polls? Leaders are not blown about by the winds like Sunak, they make the weather, and that is why Sunak is failing.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 30/09/2023 10:47

I find him largely innocuous. A real grey man, IYSWIM.

WereYouListeningToTheDudesStory · 30/09/2023 10:48

I intensely dislike all Conservatives.

Millions starving and unable to heat their homes, in what is ostensibly one of the richest countries in the world. Slow fucking clap for that.

BIossomtoes · 30/09/2023 10:48

Last resort PM. They get through them like Kleenex - three in five months, ffs.

MereDintofPandiculation · 30/09/2023 10:49

What really annoys me nowadays is the manifesto seems to be nothing to do with “what we think is the best way to run the country” and everything to do with “how to stay running the country”. So over the last few days we’ve ditched any sensible plans to get to zero carbon, and gone over to “cars are everything, sod everyone else”. Not as a logical extension of policies to date, but purely as a plan not to lose the general election. It’s been like that for a long time, but Sunak is the most cynical of the lot.
