The Economist had a good article in which it pointed out (correctly) IMO that he is the most right-wing Tory in a generation.
He got a lot of goodwill from a lot of people when he came in because he looks managerial and professional in contrast to Johnson and Truss; plus, a lot of people are still naive enough to vaguely assume that a non-white politician will be less right wing (a glance at the Tory party as a whole should inform us that race really has nothing to do with this in reality!).
But yes, "most right wing since Thatcher" just about sums it up.
Johnson at least made some good noises on the environment and there was some real progress on stuff like renewables under him (and under Cameron, lightweight though Cameron was). Sunak? Those close to Sunak state bluntly that the guy just genuinely doesn't care about the environment and has no interest on the issue.
The Tories under him look tired and out of ideas.
I can't wait to see them gone.
I'm under no illusions that Labour can magically make the UK's many issues go away, but at least we are likely to get more focus on the environment, a more proactive approach to building infrastructure and housing, and better relations with the EU.
