My diet is shit because I never have an appetite. Anyway last blood test my ferritin was 12 and haemoglobin was 109 - both low and so diagnosed as anaemic. I’ve been taking the iron tablets alongside a vitamin c tablet religiously since and had a repeat test last week. Ferritin is now 33 and haemoglobin is now 124 so I’m no longer anaemic (yay!)

Now my red blood cells are low (just under limit) and white blood cells are borderline!! DH thinks I should take more vitamins but which ones?! Please no advice regarding diet, it’s a waste of time - I’ve been trying for years to improve it but I just can’t

These. They were recommended to me and if I run out and don’t buy more for ages I gradually feel more and more shit. After a week of taking these I feel a bit better already.

These because I’m constantly low in iron and these were recommended as having higher bioavailability than ferrous fumerate that I was prescribed but which caused horrendous constipation

I do also have B12 injections at the GP surgery.

Mountaineer0009 · 27/09/2023 19:54

multi vitamin with minerals
cod liver oil
ginkgo biloba
vitamin b complex

think they are the main ones

TheShellBeach · 27/09/2023 19:56

None.
Unless there is a lack of one, proven by a blood test, nobody needs them.

people dont need eg booze etc, but they still drink and vitamins are alot more helpful than booze

Lemonademoney · 27/09/2023 20:05

I use seven seas with omega. Red box, 3 for 2 at Boots.

That is not cause and effect.

Vitamin D
Iron
Calcium
Hair & skin sweety type ones
Llysine
And one I can't remember the name of but it's a probiotic.

I definitely notice the difference if I run out of Iron but that's possibly because I'm vegetarian.

Summer2424 · 27/09/2023 20:15

Hi @Pyjanas
I take Iron, Vitamin D, Eye Vitamin (pic below from Boots or Superdrug - really good to keep the eyes healthy). Also, try Chlorella powder and Spirulina powder, both from Holland & Barrett. I mix the two powders in some water.

What vitamins do you take?

true

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 27/09/2023 20:17

Vitamin D

cptartapp · 27/09/2023 20:28

Vitamin D - proven to be low
Ferrous Sulphate - Ferritin proven to be borderline
Multivitamin

DustSalad · 27/09/2023 20:35

I try to take vitamin D but cba! Apparently almost everyone in the UK is deficient in winter. You need to either use a spray one or take it with some fat for the body to absorb it.

Blueink · 27/09/2023 21:08

Floradix liquid - iron, B12 etc
Vit D

i would add C if I didn’t eat much fruit & veg too

StarDolphins · 27/09/2023 21:11

I take…

turmeric, glucosamine
multivits
vit c
vit d
b12 complex
magnesium
omega 3
calcium

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/09/2023 21:18

Just high dose Vit d Oct- April. I eat loads of vegetables and fruits, seeds and nuts, fish’s and lean meat, eggs and yogurt etc so don’t need anything else.

TheTecknician · 27/09/2023 21:20

Vitamin D, one tablet per day. I started on them in late July. I do a very physical job, I'm not getting any younger and I was frequently finishing my shifts with lower back and leg pain. Sunshine was scarce this summer, therefore natural Vitamin D production was compromised. Two months on and the tablets are certainly doing the job!

Plantymcplantface · 27/09/2023 21:20

Cod liver oil
nootropic formula for focus / brain fog
vitamin D
probably adding in a wellwoman as well over winter

FionaChapman · 27/09/2023 21:21

Dissolvable type multivitamin from Tesco and and iron tablet.

Fink · 27/09/2023 21:22

Supermarket own brand multivitamins (no idea exactly what's it like in it).

Iron on prescription, but that's because of gynaecological issues so I'm always going to need it, at least until menopause.

Most vitamins aren’t even tested @TheShellBeach Ferritin is commonly tested, B12 is getting more common, as is folate, Vitamin D isn’t a routine test and magnesium is a rarity, there aren’t any other vitamins routinely tested in primary care, if you are under a consultant you may get a couple of others thrown in, if you’re lucky.

TheShellBeach · 28/09/2023 19:09

My doctor told me that they were all a waste of money.

Charlize43 · 28/09/2023 19:45

Omega 3 in the form of cod liver oil. Good for the joints, heart & brain.

SallyWD · 28/09/2023 19:52

I know people say it makes no difference but I disagree. I don't have a strong immune system and get lots of colds but I notice I recover much more quickly if i take vitamins c and d. There's a lot of evidence to back this up. I also take omega 3 (again there's a lot of evidence for the benefits of supplementing omega 3). I take evening primrose oil for my perimenopause symptoms and a multivitamin. I'm not convinced the multi vitamins do much.

daisytumble · 28/09/2023 19:58

D, B12 and folic acid atm. Omega 3 too. Could do to take more
