My diet is shit because I never have an appetite. Anyway last blood test my ferritin was 12 and haemoglobin was 109 - both low and so diagnosed as anaemic. I’ve been taking the iron tablets alongside a vitamin c tablet religiously since and had a repeat test last week. Ferritin is now 33 and haemoglobin is now 124 so I’m no longer anaemic (yay!)

Now my red blood cells are low (just under limit) and white blood cells are borderline!! DH thinks I should take more vitamins but which ones?! Please no advice regarding diet, it’s a waste of time - I’ve been trying for years to improve it but I just can’t

None.
Unless there is a lack of one, proven by a blood test, nobody needs them.

I take vitamin D, as the NHS recommends it for everyone over winter (October - March I think).

Autumnunmasks · 28/09/2023 20:06

I take

Tumeric
Iron
Biotin
Collagen
Greens powder
Magnesium
Plant sterols
Vit D in winter

I have a small appetite so definitely don't eat enough food to cover all nutritional needs

Thankgodforwine · 28/09/2023 20:06

Boots own brand multi vitamin + iron ...its a pound something and you get 3 for 2 ...bargin

MissingMoominMamma · 28/09/2023 20:12

I find a multivitamin with minerals helps my mood and energy levels.

DogandMog · 28/09/2023 20:13

Vitamin D complex (D3, zinc, magnesium, boron)
Vitamin B neuro complex (B12, B6 P5P, folate)
Lion’s mane tincture
Sambucol/quercetin if I’ve been exposed to a virus
Also try to eat liver at least once a fortnight, as it’s a multivitamin/mineral in itself. Alternate a whole food animal based diet with a whole food plant based diet as well to max out nutrition sources and gut health.

Hibernatalie · 28/09/2023 20:16

B6 as a mouth spray
Magnesium spray on my legs at night
Oesteocare 2 tablets a day which is calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and zinc.

Lampzade · 28/09/2023 20:17

Vitamin D
Vitamin C- soluble
Collagen
Iron
Multi vitamin

Hibernatalie · 28/09/2023 20:18

Also drink/eat Kefir as a probiotic

Truthlikeness · 28/09/2023 20:19

Vitamin D, a probiotic and berocca about 3 times a week (mainly because I like it as a drink, but presumably keeps my B vitamins topped up). I also eat a good and varied diet. I just had blood work done and all my levels are good.

Babygirl888 · 28/09/2023 20:19

Tumeric
Cod Liver Oil
Magnesium
Calcium
Vitamin A/B12/C/D/K
Iron
Glucosamine

ToWhitToWhoo · 28/09/2023 20:21

Calcium and vitamin D.

GatoradeMeBitch · 28/09/2023 20:29

Jarrows under the tongue B12 tablets, magnesium before bed. The B-12 has done quite a bit to raise my energy levels. It's supposed to be best when taken with a B Complex tablet but I hate the way they smell...

And I'm currently trying a course of Seven Seas Joint Care because my knees are starting to complain.

GatoradeMeBitch · 28/09/2023 20:39

My doctor told me that they were all a waste of money.

My doctor told me that people don't need to wash with soap, just water. I prefer to make my own mind up.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 28/09/2023 20:40

I take solgar gentle iron & vitamin c and viridian magnesium before bed to help sleep

brands matter and I would recommend going to a good health food store (not h&b) to get a good quality one as it makes a difference

I'd agree with that other than vitamin d, especially during Scottish winters.

Est1990 · 28/09/2023 21:35

Vitamin D as the blood test showed normal but on the low side levels and the doctor said to take it.

Nonsense. I got horrendous cramps for two years, mentioned it to my GP: nothing. Remember that my osteopath, years ago had said cramp could be caused by magnesium deficiency. Started taking magnesium and calcium and within three days the cramps had gone.

excatly, i may not need them but if i do, my body is equipped with the ones it needs from the multi vitamins ect

Thementalloadisreal · 28/09/2023 21:44

I take the following mainly from Holland & Barrett
I am vegan which makes a difference to what I need to supplement.
b12 and vitamin c
omega complex (algae)
vitamin D spray
iodine
Magnesium & zinc
greens powder in my smoothie
vegan collagen - just started this and not sure about it yet

I take Spatone iron when I have my period

I also take at-home blood tests every 6-12 months to monitor certain levels and have always been within range.

MrsKarlUrban · 28/09/2023 21:48

I googled my symptoms and read up on what I could possibly be lacking such as I get terrible ibs so I've started a probiotic. I take a b complex and a d as I don't sit out in the sun and really pale and have been on and off low on blood tests for it.

Coffeebutter · 28/09/2023 21:50

Improve your diet, your body can’t absorb isolated synthetic compounds well .
Many vitamins have counter effects, so if you take zinc it will act against copper as the receptors are the same for both.
Omega 3 is much more beneficial when eaten in fish compared it when on a tablet. The body doesn’t work as previously thought.
Avoid multivitamins.

Loom up iron rich foods and eat this along side your iron supplementation.
oral vitamin D spray is better as absorbs immediately and bypassss the digestive system.

I recommend you listen to the latest Doctor’s kitchen on just this topic !

Happyhappyeveryday · 28/09/2023 21:55

Multivitamin
Live probiotic
Collagen
B12
Omega 3 6 9

I’m 55.

i had wondered with the counter effects when i am taking a couple at the same times

Greycheck · 28/09/2023 22:01

Vitamins D, b12
Folic acid
Calcium

These are low on each blood test so taking vitamins presumably isn't actually helping but I suppose they aren't getting any lower!!

CrunchyCarrot · 28/09/2023 22:13

Riboflavin (Vit B2)
Magnesium
Occasionally Vit D
Vit B12
Vit E
Boron
Iodine
Selenium
Molybdenum

I have Hashimoto's and various food intolerances so really need to help myself out with some additions.
