Rishi has absolutely lost it, hasn't he?

What with his random shite this week about scrapping a non-existent meat tax and an imaginary 7 bins, actually scrapping his own home insulation workforce that was only set up a few months ago, scrapping any useful bits of HS2 and now scrapping A-levels (which is so far removed from what is actually possible in schools right now that it's not even funny), what the fuck is he on?

He's just flailing around madly scrapping everything in case someone, somewhere might vote Tory over it.

And he was supposed to be the sensible replacement to Liz Truss.

Tories are right now, building all over the Greenbelt and virgin countryside

Will the Lib Dems hang on to constituencies such as Chesham and Amersham? Why people voted Lib Dem -

Tanya Allsop, a retired teacher in her 50s from the consituency village of Ballinger, told The Telegraph: “What we’re talking about is nothing less than the rape of the Chilterns. HS2 and any easing of building on the green belt will devastate the countryside around here.

Tories have done that, not LD or Labour, now with the 25bn they ve wasted on cancelling HS2, the Chilterns etc have been devastated for no good reason.

£25bn would have settled the BMA strikes, fixed the RAAC issues and given nurses a better pay rise or it could have been used to scrap care home fees for a next few years, lowered tuition fees...

Instead it was wasted.. the party of economic competence indeed.

It's the Blair way. He coined the "mondeo man" phrase. Traditional Tories will mostly always vote Tory, even if they waver mid term. Likewise traditional Labour will mostly always vote Labour. Elections are won or lost on the middle ground of "floating votes", or Mondeo Man. Understanding that enabled Blair to win his General Elections. To some extent, it's what made Nick Clegg popular for the Libdems. Boris tapped into a similar "market" of voters, i.e. the traditional Red Wall and Northern England voters who felt alienated by Corbyn's Labour. Rishi can ignore the traditional left and right and just try to target groups of floating voters, which is what he seems to be doing. I don't think Starmer has the nouse to do the same, likewise Brown couldn't do it either, hence him losing his only GE.

That only works if he perceives that people who send their children to feepaying schools have become so disenchanted with the Conservatives that they have become floating voters. That may well be the case, but it shows that their polls are demonstrating to them that they are in deep trouble. He clearly has no interest in appealing to the parents of children in RAAC-built schools.

@jgw I think Starmer totally has the Nous to appeal to Worcester woman and mondeo man in away that Corbyn simply didn't and that's why the Torys are in deep do do , because at the moment the Torys are appealing mainly to the very well off , Brexity tradesmen making a mint due to lack of competition , many (not all) over 70s and those whose views match closely with UKIP and the old national front- Most others seem to think they are a pile of bullshitting and corrupt opportunists - certainly that's the view of people I know- who incidentally are quite wide across the political spectrum in the past

Unfortunately he doesn't have the charisma. Blair, Cameron, Clegg and Boris all had charisma and it's what the shallow voters seem to like. Brown, Corbyn and Starmer never crack a smile and, to be blunt, are dull as dishwater.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/10/2023 15:28

@user1497207191 I partly agree- but then I'm not shallow and quite happy with competent ! Thing is Rishi doesn't have charisma either- just comes across asa bit of a fast talking posh con man to me

dewclaw · 06/10/2023 15:34

They have all lost the plot. I used to have some respect for Penny Mordaunt until her deranged "fight them" speech at the Tory conference!😂
It all reeks of desperation as they know they are doomed.

bombastix · 06/10/2023 15:40

The nadir is watching Sunak squirm about Braverman's comments. In another era she would have been sacked. They are a rotten party.

therealcookiemonster · 06/10/2023 15:52

not sure he ever had it

Crikeyalmighty · 06/10/2023 16:11

@dewclaw gave me a damned good laugh though ! I'm not sure that was her intention

Standingchair1 · 06/10/2023 17:04

As is Rishi Sunak

Standingchair1 · 06/10/2023 17:11

We’re all doomed!

After Johnson, the majority of voters have become seriously disillusioned with charisma and will be delighted to settle for unexciting but competent.

Passepartoute · 06/10/2023 17:54

I love that idiot saying that der Yoof should vote Conservative because the Labour party are not promising to wrestle control of the economic situation we are in. Who does he think caused that situation, FFS?

StarlightLady · 06/10/2023 18:03

@Passepartoute - You are being unfair. They have only had 13 years 🤣! And remember Sunak was fined over Partygate too. Yet still considered suitable to be PM!

NotTerfNorCis · 06/10/2023 18:14

Those young guys are supporting Conservative most likely because they come from privileged backgrounds and rightly believe the Tories are on their side.

It's not. But at least we now know what Clav looks like ...

Its real?

That is the future of the Tory party?

No wonder they want Farage back.

Socialists always look miserable.

Apart from the fact that I'm a woman (in the real sense of the word - not Keir Starmer's version with a penis).

Have you ever supported HS2? It was Labour's idea in the first place.

bombastix · 06/10/2023 21:35

It might be fairer to Sunak to say that his excellent technocratic skills would probably have been useful in another era.

But he doesn't have anything. No loyal party, no money, and no time. So he's over.
