Rishi has absolutely lost it, hasn't he?

What with his random shite this week about scrapping a non-existent meat tax and an imaginary 7 bins, actually scrapping his own home insulation workforce that was only set up a few months ago, scrapping any useful bits of HS2 and now scrapping A-levels (which is so far removed from what is actually possible in schools right now that it's not even funny), what the fuck is he on?

He's just flailing around madly scrapping everything in case someone, somewhere might vote Tory over it.

And he was supposed to be the sensible replacement to Liz Truss.

It's sad. When we started oil development in the 1960s Tony Benn made the companies pay for the extraction and development.

What a terrible man he was, understanding that they would make plenty of money all the same but that it shouldn't be on the taxpayer.

The good old days when we had politicians - on both sides - with integrity. I miss them so much.

I too miss the good old days during e.g. Ancient Greece when people discussed politics and took an interest in their leaders perspectives, these days how many people truly study the parties they are voting for ?

Is it Starmer and the Labour party who has eroded womens and mens rights for the past 13 years?

No, of course not. But he's not transphobic enough for some people here

Sunak is due to cite concerns about '15 minute cities' in his upcoming speech about protecting motorists

Just the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom planning to make a debunked far-right conspiracy theory a key part of his conference speech to the nation.

^^

The Lib Dems seem hopeful that they will have an input...God forbid.

The only viable coalition will be between Labour and the SNP. God forbid!

Libdems are now irrelevant and will continue to be whilst they have a virtually invisible leader with the charisma of a dead fish. It was only Clegg that made them popular and look how he pissed that away with selling their soul for a sniff of power, i.e. tuition fees etc.

I don't understand this new oil field

It's going to cost our country £3 billion

We don't get the profits.

We don't get 80% of the oil.

The oil we do get will be sold to British consumers at the world market rate even though it's "ours"

What is our country getting out of this that justifies it?

Lots of jobs, you know, people actually going to work for a living, paying taxes, spending money in the economy, etc. We can't all live on benefits.

Really? Please tell me Sunak is half rational. Even Johnson did not entertain conspiracy theory

Nonsense. The SNP is a busted flush, they’ll get a handful of Scottish seats at best. The Libdems are trouncing the Tories in by elections in the blue wall, the future looks bright for them.

noblegiraffe · 29/09/2023 16:29

And now a video interview where he's trying to insist that the 20mph limit in Wales is a blanket limit, and when it was pointed out that other speed limits were allowed, disagreed.

WTF, is he an idiot who doesn't understand driving because he takes private planes everywhere?

Current polling suggests that a minority government is highly unlikely, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Electoral Calculus is a dynamite website. So much detail and facts. Really refreshing to have this in a world of GB "but we are pretending to be news" Opinion.

It looks like people are tuning out what the Conservatives say. And Sunak maybe is good at appealing to whatever is left of the Tory vote but not more. They are going to be hammered.

Ilmecourtsurleharicot · 30/09/2023 13:01

Absolutely disgusted with this horrible dog whistle ‘friend of the driver’ crap entrenching car travel in our congested roads and not investing in any public transport, it’s appalling

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66965714

A young cyclist passes through the barriers that form an LTN (Low Traffic Neighbourhood),

Sunak vows to stop 20mph zones and review LTNs

PM says measures like 20mph zones should not be forced on drivers but Labour accuses him of hypocrisy.

Back in 1997, it was amusing that a couple I knew genuinely thought the election had been stolen because all they had read were Telegraph and Mail pieces on how big the Tory majority would be. And even then I couldn't blame them for not believe a word the BBC put out.

verdantverdure · 02/10/2023 15:16

@user1497207191

£3billion spent on renewables would also have created jobs.

Jobs all over the country.

And would've helped us keep the planet liveable.

And would have contributed to the UK's long term energy security.

The money would have been better spent on energy infrastructure for our country.

verdantverdure · 05/10/2023 01:48

Ouch!

The most damning thing is that you know without being told who this word cloud is about.

Rishi has absolutely lost it, hasn't he?
jgw1 · 05/10/2023 07:04

I understand that Rishi Sunak now has a deep interest in public health, with his announcement that the UK will follow NZ's example in phasing out tobacco products.

Presumably he has therefore scrapped the scrapping of polices that he recently announced that would be detrimental to public house. I presume that 20mph zones are back as are 15 minute cities.

Does he get dizzy with all this u-turns?

Passepartoute · 05/10/2023 14:44

JustAMinutePleass · 28/09/2023 13:59

Old Oak Common is a 10min walk from Willesdon Junction (it’s a similar distance as some DLR stations are from mainline stations). Currently it takes 20mins to travel from there to London Euston.

30 mins is about an average time to cross North London. Most commuters to London are used to it.

That's without factoring in the slow shuffle onto and off escalators and stairways from a crowded train, ditto at the Willesden Junction end, and the likely 15- 20 minute wait for a train at WJ.

SerendipityJane · 05/10/2023 15:04

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/10/2023 16:21

They just love the glory amid the big announcement but they can’t be trusted. They reverse all sorts. Look at the increase in NI to pay for NHS!

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/10/2023 16:22

The smoking thing by img won’t last . They need the tax!

Fightyouforthatpie · 05/10/2023 16:29

JustAMinutePleass · 28/09/2023 12:10

Cuts must be made. Neither the Tories nor Labour have the stomach to raise taxes and so are now desperately trying to find ways to raise money.

I do think Rishi makes more sense than Starmar / Labour / Boris - he knows his stuff. All of Rishi’s policies, decisions seem to be data led.

Cuts to what? MPs generous tax-free expenses?
What the fuck was the point of Austerity?

Increasing the legal age to buy tabs a year at a go isn't very radical - he's banking on not being in power, but even if he accidentally wins it's hardly going too make a lot of difference.
