Rishi has absolutely lost it, hasn't he?

What with his random shite this week about scrapping a non-existent meat tax and an imaginary 7 bins, actually scrapping his own home insulation workforce that was only set up a few months ago, scrapping any useful bits of HS2 and now scrapping A-levels (which is so far removed from what is actually possible in schools right now that it's not even funny), what the fuck is he on?

He's just flailing around madly scrapping everything in case someone, somewhere might vote Tory over it.

And he was supposed to be the sensible replacement to Liz Truss.

Did he ever have it in the first place?

Tribevibes · 23/09/2023 19:06

Get him gone.

MiniBossFromAus · 23/09/2023 19:10

I am telling you. There is something in the water at No.10.

They go in reasonably / barely functioning humans. Have one cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit and promptly turn into proper buffoons. It's like a political Punch & Judy show.

Must be the water.

Trenda · 23/09/2023 19:12

My theory is that he is literally a ventriloquists dummy. He is willing and eager to earnestly spout whatever rubbish he is told to say but is totally unable to answer any questions that he hasnt been advised and been prepared for earlier.
I know nothing of the political world so have no idea about who or why but its obvious to me that the prime minister is definitely not the one in charge.

sparklefresh · 23/09/2023 19:12

But ultimately he doesn't care. He'll be PM for a bit then sod off to live the life of a a billionaire. It's a game for him.

noblegiraffe · 23/09/2023 20:34

I think he does care. He's not the sort of person who is used to being a massive failure and I bet it really rankles.

Can those who have voted that IABU explain how the meat tax/7 bins thing are in any way the actions of a serious politician?

And anyone who would argue that HS2 good bits need scrapping because they are expensive - scrapping A-levels would cost a bloody fortune, so what's that about?

OP posts:
OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 23/09/2023 20:38

Bojo has come out of the woodwork to disagree with him on HS2.

flappersdelight · 23/09/2023 20:46

I'm not so sure about this - Johnson's (and Truss's) mess is still so omnipresent in the media and popular mind that I think he'll somehow escape the failure spotlight and leave office quite quietly once he loses the election. I think he'll be forgotten about relatively quickly.

Although I suppose not before he puts the boot in with a succession of ridiculous, desperate policies. Just to be a cunt.

lljkk · 23/09/2023 20:54

He'll be out on his tush soon, so what could he do to be his lasting legacy. That's what he's worrying about.

In a weird flailing desperate senseless way. Because there aren't enough teachers, the 7 bins was never a plan, and now... I dunno. Sunak could go quietly or just be remembered for furlough. But he's being a wimp about those options.

He is going to be the one leading them into spectacular electoral wipe-out so I think that will register.

I heard him being grilled on Today about the 7 bins and sounding like a complete idiot, the scrapping of HS2 good bits has also been widely ridiculed so I don't think his fuck-ups are going completely unnoticed.

The green target thing too as the British public are generally in favour of having a planet to leave to their kids. (I notice now Rishi is also looking at scrapping inheritance tax to make sure that his kids will be able to buy their way out of whatever catastrophes there are to come).

He strikes me as being the earnest, geeky kid at school who had no idea of what actually went on in the real world. Easy to wind up. By his own admission, he doesn't have any working class friends.

Not that Starmer is any better.

ohfourfoxache · 23/09/2023 21:29

He’s just spouting shit to disguise what they’re really doing - funnelling as much money to their mates as they can before the next GE

It’s dead cat after dead cat

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2023 21:32

Jeez it’s desperate stuff. Spraying policies around randomly on a whim as to where he thinks the votes might be. Desperate.

Ilmecourtsurleharicot · 23/09/2023 21:45

I’m absolutely disgusted with Rishi Sunak scrapping all the green targets and therefore scrapping the jobs and investment that would have gone with that.. obviously not to mention not further fucking over the climate for us all and our kids. Shame on him

Dymaxion · 23/09/2023 21:56

I don't know why instead of saying all new cars must be electric, they didn't go for hybrid ? Cuts the need for a massive amount of infrastructure we aren't able to deliver, provides the clean air in urban/residential areas we need and are more achievable price wise for people ?

Newgirls · 23/09/2023 21:56

We are all just waiting for them to leave government aren’t we? Don’t think anyone expects them to deliver anything before they get booted out

Hybrids are pretty pointless, they're green washing.

We need to shift to electric, or we'll have expensive hybrids while the rest of the planet have ever cheaper electric.

Time to move on from oil.

Dymaxion · 23/09/2023 22:00

I am not getting excited about them leaving Government, its a long time in politics before the next election. They do seem very disjointed as a party, far too much infighting, it feels like they could do with some time out to figure what the Conservative party is ?

lljkk · 23/09/2023 22:05

The whole point of big fast leap to electric is to make the infrastructure obviously economically viable, to make the infrastructure happen with support of market forces. Also, it gives UK an advantage in being ahead with the technology, and encouraging companies to invest here (for goods etc. that will happen but means goods can be made here & exported). The ahead-of-everyone-else conversion to electric vehicles meant UK getting loads of jobs that might go elsewhere.

The other day announcement was partly smoke & mirrors because 20% of new cars sold in UK will have to be electric soon, a % increasing every few yrs. Those goals weren't changed. But... Sunak has undermined investor confidence by seeming to rollback. The jobs investment might well be reduced because of what Sunak said.

But hey ho, suburban ancient diesel Landrover driving mums & white-van anti-ULEZ men will feel listened to. So that's all that matters.

Beesandhoney123 · 23/09/2023 22:17

He appears out of his depth, being the PM. Suspect he would have been happier being minister for British investment, schmoozing with his pals from california and the business world.

The poison chalice of PM after the Boris then liz truss fiasco was a hot potato any experienced politician would have avoided. Unfortunately, rishi has been scammed. He seems unaware tbh, or is perhaps in denial.

Dymaxion · 23/09/2023 22:20

@MidnightOnceMore I imagine that should be the goal, but there isn't the infrastructure to support it, how many people live in flats and couldn't charge their car at home, people who live in door onto the pavement terrace houses, what about rural areas ?
It isn't just the cost of buying the car either, the tyres are a lot more expensive, if you breakdown you need a flatbed truck with hoist, they can't be towed like normal vehicles because all 4 tyres lock. The additional weight of all these vehicles is going to cause more of the road surface to be eroded and those particles to end up in river systems/the sea/water supplies.
How will the electricity be produced that will be used to charge all these additional electric vehicles ?
Is there an infinite supply of the raw materials needed for the batteries ?

Don't get me wrong, I do think we need to move in that direction, but I don't think the UK as a whole is anywhere near ready. Happy to be proved wrong thoughSmile

Choppysue · 23/09/2023 22:29

Yup, what's with the stupid A level thing? The visible government does not run any country. They just fanny about. Belgium ran pretty fucking fine without them. What is the point of it all, it's reality TV for people who think they are clever.

jgw1 · 23/09/2023 22:31

Does Rishi even know what a woman is?
