I'd probably stop now. You're starting to sound a bit silly.

This would be good advice for you to follow. You've been sounding silly for a couple of days now.

The police have reported a "significant number" of women have now come forward with claims of sexual assault by Brand, and they are investigating.

Mmm... not really. But OK.

Great that more women have come forward. If he's guilty I hope they throw the book at him. That's one issue.

BUT these allegations HAVE surfaced now because the elites want to shut him up. That's a separate issue entirely but both things can be true at the same time.

Obviously.

bombastix · 26/09/2023 09:04

@Jumpingthruhoops if you work in the media then you are symptomatic of the problems we have.

The facts here are that women have made allegations. Those aren't opinions.

Now, whether it's a matter of criminal law is for the police.

The media has always reported allegations. That is part of their role.

Brand has zero credibility to present other people's work. None. They do not agree with his suggestions, insinuations and rhetorical devices he uses to manipulate people. If they did, they would say so. Their silence is deafening.

It is the last hope of someone like Brand that he will find enough gullible people to listen to him without asking any questions of his motivation or presentation.

You want to ask yourself why you have decided to give your own thinking over to him instead of engaging with people of real expertise and experience. What does it do for you?

I haven't given my own thinking over to anyone. Unlike most of the posters on here, who take what they see/read in the MSM as gospel and exist in an echo chamber.

People can say what they like about Russell. He may be guilty. He may not be. Regardless, that's for the courts to decide.

But you're not allowed to say that, apparently.

oakleaffy · 26/09/2023 12:12

@Bingbangbongbash Superb points in your posts. I too see Brand as an alleged sexual predator. Hopefully he isn't these days, but it's alarming how many women are coming out in his defence.

Interesting that me and another person are repeatedly being sneered at but if we reply to suggest the person hasn’t read what we’ve been saying correctly - since neither of us are saying that we think RB is innocent or guilty - then our comments gets deleted.

👏👏

Anyone have any thoughts on why Brand has been booted out of his 2 businesses by his partners?

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/officers/EmJv6THHWDMCGknI18K9UPjuowo/appointments

I don't know that he was 'booted out' - it was reported last week that he'd pulled out of 2 businesses in which he was a partner- no reason given

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/09/2023 12:18

Efacsen · 26/09/2023 09:18

And hypocrisy too considering they were complaining about insults from other PP during their overnight session

Not at all. Being called 'fucking thick' out of nowhere, versus saying someone's 'starting to look silly' by repeatedly misunderstanding what's being said, are two VERY different things.

I was suitably chastised for that, and the comment deleted as it contravened MN Talk Guidelines.

I assume any comments of yours that have been deleted were similarly found in contravention.

Unless it’s all a conspiracy?

Just decided, apropos of nothing, to resign from his businesses on 19th September, 2 working days after the Times / Dispatches revelations? Curious.

Thanks. It’s startling how many women jump to his defence behind the guise of due process and misguided faith in the justice system.

I also find it fascinating how despite a lot of evidence to the contrary - stats on rape prosecutions etc - they continue to have faith in the justice system. Surely this is one of the mainstays of the government, the establishment, the mainstream, fed by another establishment perennial, the police.

To some this might be seen as cognitive dissonance.

Curiouser and curiouser…

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/09/2023 12:27

SatsumaNightmare · 26/09/2023 09:57

That’s not scaremongering. It’s the statistics and information produced for the service itself. Do you not find it problematic when people are discouraged from being given full information in order to make decisions?

I’m also not trying to persuade anyone on this - show me where I did in this thread.

This, ironically, is not too dissimilar to what we've been discussing - anyone with alternative 'facts' is either 'scaremongering' or a 'conspiracy theorist'. When they are neither. Simply stating facts.

Those health stats you gave are in the public domain but MN has decided people shouldn't see them. So, once again, 'facts' are OK, as long as they fit with the preferred agenda. I rest my case.

Not at all. People can and do see this data - but they don’t necessarily have the education or ability to evaluate them, which is why we use experts to make policy.

Everyone is welcome to an opinion, but not all opinions carry the same weight. It’s why more education into the scientific process and critical thinking is desperately needed. Of course, there will still be plenty of people lacking the ability to understand the information, which is again why précis are presented to them in an accessible way.

Again - this is more nonsense @SatsumaNightmare

This risks of smear tests are clearly outlined, including the possibility of a false positive. This trend of trying to persuade people there's a conspiracy about literally everything (and then making money from putting up videos about it) is ridiculous. We have a wealth of evidence that demonstrates the benefits of smear testing outweighs the risks and costs.

e..g, from cancer research UK.

Risks

Cervical screening works very well but, like any screening test, it isn’t perfect.

In a few cases, tests will seem to find abnormal changes that aren’t really there. This is called a false positive result. It leads to unnecessary worry and also the need for more tests.

Right!? But why can't we know about the risks of the tests too. People need ALL the information to be able to make an informed decision.

Bingbangbongbash · 26/09/2023 12:34

WomblingTree86 · 26/09/2023 12:32

We don’t - or that they work in the media.

Male or female, rape apologists and conspiracy theorists are awful.

Bingbangbongbash · 26/09/2023 12:39

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/09/2023 12:33

Right!? But why can't we know about the risks of the tests too. People need ALL the information to be able to make an informed decision.

They can’t make an informed decision with just the information.

They also need an understand of statistics, risk, contraindications.

They need to understand the study and its data against the backdrop of other scientific work in the same field.

They need to be able to evaluate the reliability of the source and be able to understand the scientific method to be able to fully make an informed decision.

Without these critical thinking skills, they rely on other people to evaluate and tell them what to think.

One way this happens is via sources like newspapers, the NHS, government - all of which have checks and balances, fact-checking and professional standards.

The other way is from social media which espouses egalitarian ideals that allow anyone to become a publisher.

I prefer getting my information from reliable and verifiable sources, rather than some random with a camera.

When exactly do you do this important 'job in the media'? You've spent the past four days on this thread defending a rapist (with a nice side helping of anti-vax conspiracy bullshit) at all hours of the day and night.

Mumsnet. By parents, for rape apologists and anti-vaxxers?

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/09/2023 12:49

SatsumaNightmare · 26/09/2023 10:29

I never said it was a conspiracy theory.

Now look at what you posted. Look how they are downplaying that. ‘A few.’ ‘Unnecessary worry and also the need for more tests.’ It doesn’t actually give any statistics so people can utilise the data. It also doesn’t mention any of the physical repercussions of a false positive such as medical intervention that can cause life-long damaging impact. It doesn’t mention that should the medical establishment be trying to introduce smear tests now, the system would not pass their own checks for effective screening. It does not mention that GPs are given an incentive for getting a hit rate of people attending.

What I don’t understand is why you, and others like you, wish to stop people obtaining information. What are you so scared of? And to be clear, this is information from the exact same system that you are supporting in this instance. If you think the information is rubbish then dismiss it.

What this ultimately comes down to is a desire for people to not be able to make their own decisions. It’s the weirdest sort of group think.

I’m done with this thread.

100% this!

This is actually the perfect example to highlight what RB does in his content.

The narrative in this instance is 'the test only takes a few minutes' and 'it doesn't hurt' when, for a lot of people including myself, the experience is anything but. Yet we're not allowed to tell the truth in case it stops people coming along. That's as maybe but women should still be given all the information. The same is/was true about RB's content during covid and since, particularly relating to medical procedures.

Seems unlikely that you were deleted for posting facts. Facts are okay as long as they are actual facts e.g. from peer reviewed research. The problem with those promoting conspiracy theories is even though they might say they're using official data, and may put the links up, they have usually misinterpreted or missed things out and so come to entirely different conclusions than the people who actually did the research. Even if it is true, they will pretend that no one else is talking about it ( “ the silence is deafening” ) or that no one else has researched it. They rely on the fact that their followers will not actually read the papers and see how they're being manipulated.

They believe what they want to believe, what suits their narrative. Truth and consistency don't come into it.

Also interesting how they've all suddenly started using the phrase 'due process' just because Russell used it in his latest video. (The one before that was 'trial by media'.)

It's almost sweet how they just obediently take their cues from what the rich white man with a huge platform says. Or it would be, if he wasn't a fucking serial rapist.

There are hundreds of threads on here with women discussing their sometimes painful and unpleasant experiences of smear tests.

As you'd know if you'd bothered to look. But again, don't let reality or truth get in the way of your rapist defending.

What do you mean "you're not allowed to tell the truth”? There are posts all the time on Mumsnet about people finding smears painful, GP incentives, pros and cons . The fact you don't know this shows you don't normally come on this forum.

It's very clear that this person is not a regular MN user nor any of the other things that they are claiming to be.

Or that they can’t understand the paper. Let’s face it, scientific papers aren’t that accessible, are they? Lots of jargon and terminology a non-scientist rarely fully understands.

Yet another reason why Russell ‘took heroin instead of A levels’ Brand should not be trusted as a mouthpiece for this information.

Perhaps he should have spent less time feeling up his peers under his rape cloak and more time studying.
