German machines bleeping at me

Lighthearted.

My kitchen has an array of very efficient, quality and good looking (German) appliances. They do their job well.

Buy they all beep, Aggressively, at me all of the time.

The dishwasher beeps (and opens its own door!) at cycle start and end
The induction Hob beeps when you turn it on, when you put something on it, when you set it, when the timer is up, when the magnetic knob becomes attached
And when you accidentally lock it.

The oven beeps when you set it, when it's at correct temperature and when it's finished it's thing.

The washing machine is a bastard.
It beeps endlessly at cycle end until you get up and see to it. Every 10 seconds. 😳

It's a fecking cacophony of beeps in my kitchen. Need 🎧

Why oh why ? And is this confined only to German appliances or do others do it too ?

I recently got my kitchen redone and do struggle with how much it now nags me about everything

steelseries · 21/09/2023 16:00

Yes! Nothing in my kitchen is as aggressive as the Thermomix when it's finished. The beeping lasts forever.

itsmeafterall · 21/09/2023 16:00

It all feels a bit needy?

My new dishwasher had a self opening door. If you so much as look at it in the wrong way, it opens. 😂😂😂

I've always been mystified as to what thermomix is actually for /what it does ?

@itsmeafterall it chops, blends, steams, frys, stirs, whisks, mills & weighs. Basically everything except for bake or grill!

AnotherExpatKiwi · 21/09/2023 16:04

Not Bosch by any chance? My washing machine has serious anger issues if you don’t empty immediately it finishes. Great machine though. I had a Samsung that would play a snippet of Schubert’s The Trout Quintet when it finished. Much less demanding but also a really rubbish machine.

CeliaCanth · 21/09/2023 16:07

Yes. Shouty German appliances and a shouty German car means there’s very little peace round these parts.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 21/09/2023 16:11

I appear to be very lucky in our Bosches, which have no beeps at all. Dishwasher and washing machine. And drill, jigsaw and sanding thing, for that matter!
The Matsui microwave is a needy bastard though - it BEEEEEPs every 60 seconds while it's running for no readily apparent reason, and when it stops it BEEP BEEP BEEPs every 30 seconds still until you open the door.

Well the dishwasher is Bosch , Washing machine and ovens i are Siemens , Hob is Neff.

Apparently Bosch Siemens and Miele (?) are all made on the same production line on different days. 😬

I bought a wifi connected washing machine so I could stop the beeping from the sofa. The bleeping app does everything apart from stopping the beep, so now both the washer and the phone beep at me

MaybeSmaller · 21/09/2023 16:18

My biggest worry is that I won't ever know when to change the battery in my smoke alarm now that I've acquired a menagerie of appliances that beep constantly.

pickledandpuzzled · 21/09/2023 16:20

My kitchen is fine, but my car is the shoutiest ever! Constantly grumbles about on, off, keys, windows, seatbelt... it's half a dozen beeps before you even get moving.

Then a soul snatching, heart stopping beep if it drops below 3 degrees while you're driving.

Olika · 21/09/2023 16:26

I hate our washing machine peeping in the end until you go and switch it off. Surely one peep is enough to tell the cycle is over, the rest is up to user. 🤦🏽‍♀️

EerieSilence · 21/09/2023 16:27

Did you mention the war?

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 21/09/2023 16:28

I have an angry Bosch washing machine. 'VarioPerfect'. Incessant ear-piercing beeping at the end of a cycle.

FinanceLPlates · 21/09/2023 16:29

Call Nein-nein-nein

Scottishlanza · 21/09/2023 16:29

Laughed at this post.I could have written it word for word!

Crazymadchickenlady · 21/09/2023 16:32

I love my thermomix ❤️but the beeping is very noisy. My Bosch dishwasher just beeps once and we have turned the beeps off on the Bosch washing machine and tumble dryer. The Neff hob though is a nightmare.

MustGetOutofBed · 21/09/2023 16:40

My washing machine (not German) plays a little tune when it ends. Whoever is in the kitchen at the time sings along 🎶🎵

I recently got a new washing machine that tricks me into thinking I haven’t turned on… it waits a while before it starts, bloody annoying!

FinanceLPlates · 21/09/2023 16:46

I think there’s usually a way to disable the sounds. That would drive me to distraction too! Thankfully ours are ancient and taciturn.
Maybe search YouTube with the model names?

wonkylegs · 21/09/2023 16:56

You can if you look in the manual (or online if you don't have the manual) turn them off
Most of mine our German but don't necessarily beep much

Miele dishwasher is completely silent and usually makes people jump when it's finished because it opens the door by itself a tiny bit to cool

Bosch washing machine & dryer both have slightly different beeps, newer one much quieter than old one. I hardly ever notice it.

Cooker only beeps if you set the timer
Microwave beeps when finished
Fridge if door is left open

Robot hoover - because it's got stuck/found a bit of dust that's too big/kids toy/not charged properly/it's Tuesday etc etc it's the most temperamental appliance in the house.

What? You bought a connected washing mach so you could stop the bleep but the app doesn't stop the bleep, and now the machine AND the app bleep at you?
How have you not gone insane? How have you not sued their arses off for mental distress? I sincerely sympathise, this would drive me so nuts and I would feel like I should be able to fix it, which would drive me even nutser. God almighty you poor woman.

FOJN · 21/09/2023 17:23

Yes to the bleeping hob but it's the fridge which is the noisiest, it won't even let me keep the door open long enough to unpack shopping.

I think the other appliances are too old to make a fuss about being asked to do their job or a fanfare when they've done it.

Mangolover123 · 21/09/2023 17:30

Yep everything beeps, washing machine, dryer, fridge, freezer, microwave and the front door, I don't think the dishwashers do tbh. They are my friends!
