Many of you out there who’ve never had Covid?

Not really an AIBU subject so apologies, thought it might reach a wider audience than buried in the Covid section!

I’ve a nasty cold and just taken yet another Covid test which is negative. Beginning to feel like a bit of an anomaly & freak of nature as I don’t know anyone else that’s never had it (always tested when I’ve had colds and weekly when tests were free). Slept next to DH when he had it and DD has had it twice. I assumed I’d get it when they did & didn’t really take precautions as it seemed inevitable I’d get it too.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen to come down with the bloody thing, just seems a little odd!

Charlottebog. The Covid study is scientific,5 years, I forget how many participants, respiratory prof Adrian Martineau. We had blood tests, monthly questionnaire to fill in. As I said I am careful. I have done barrier, reverse barrier and isolation nursing. I worked 30 years nights, with a maximum of 3 hours sleep in the day,4 DKs, huge garden animals,by all accounts, I shouldn't have an immune system at all. I do have health issues (got a tumor on a kidney) been having tests. My oldest DD had one Vax refused to have anymore, has had Covid several times, was so ill, she couldn't even climb the stairs. Silly cow smokes, used to take the piss out of my hand washing and hygiene techniques, but she's 53, not going to listen to me.

EasternStandard · 23/09/2023 08:45

It’s possible to have it with no symptoms though

Ragwort · 23/09/2023 08:47

No never had it (knowingly) ... never isolated as I volunteered with vulnerable people in the community and wasn't prepared to abandon them; no one in my family has .. including my very elderly DPs.
Maybe some people just have a natural immunity? I do have all the vaccines & was able to have them 'early' because of my volunteering.

Stroopwaffels · 23/09/2023 08:48

I had it once in 2021.

After that I have no idea if any of the colds I have had are Covid or not Covid as I am not testing and don;t know anyone else who is testing either.

EasternStandard · 23/09/2023 08:49

I’ve knowingly had it once

It was so mild I only just realised - slight dizzy spell

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 23/09/2023 08:50

Me. Work in healthcare been coughed and spluttered on by covid positive when we stopped wearing masks, never got it. Was at a concert when a particularly fast spreading variant was doing the round in winter 2021, never got it. Been to lots of nights out and crowded events as well. Either my time will come or I have natural immunity. I’m hardly ever Ill in general though

megletthesecond · 23/09/2023 08:50

My mum still hasnt caught it. She didn't catch it off her husband when he had it.
Everyone else I know has had it.

Notverywellatm · 23/09/2023 08:51

Just got it for the first time. This summer I spent less time outside and have eaten less fruit due to burnt mouth syndrome and have not had weekend lie ins. So sunshine fruit and sleep had likely protected me before.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/09/2023 08:53

NHS staff here, I was redeployed to work on covid wards at the beginning. As far as I knew I’d never had it but we were offered antibody tests in the September (I think) after it all started and mine came back positive. My dc were in a trial and had 3 blood tests looking for antibodies - all negative.

When tests became available we all tested regularly. Dc2 is the only one to ever have had a positive result. We didn’t isolate them in the house and the rest of us stayed clear.

it’s all very odd

Un7breakable · 23/09/2023 08:58

I haven't and was part of the servaiallance program so had my blood tested regularly to check for antibodies as well as regular COVID tests, which I also continued afterward for a bit due to my job.

Of course you can have asymptomatic infection and therefore would only know if you had a blood test or were doing random COVID tests. So I'm only sure until 2022.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 29/09/2023 12:17

I would like to say.. after commenting last week that I've never had covid... I tested positive today... I feel like absolute crap and am disappointed I'm not a medical marvel 😂😂

Hbh17 · 29/09/2023 12:36

To my knowledge, never had it. Same for most people I know, I think.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/09/2023 14:23

Just had text for next booster

Guess they are working as never had covid

LuluBlakey1 · 29/09/2023 14:25

I haven't had it- as far as I am aware. I'm surprised I haven't as DH has had it twice now and the DC have had it recently but I always test negative.

viques · 29/09/2023 14:25

I haven’t had it , and was testing regularly. I also haven’t had flu since 1973. I assume I have a strong immune system, I have had all the Covid vaccines though, but have never had a flu vaccine.

Alltheshoes74 · 29/09/2023 14:31

As far as we are aware neither my husband or myself have had it. I’ve had a couple of awful bugs - have tested negative every time.
Kids have both had it, one so poorly he missed some GCSE’s. It’s really odd!

OhmygodDont · 29/09/2023 14:32

In our house only our dd’s have ever tested positive and they were not ill either it was school mandated testing. Me, dh and ds have never tested positive.

Nottodaty · 29/09/2023 14:43

My daughter (14) has never had it. We’ve had it as a house twice but she never tested positive. Been around school friends who tested positive (more than once!) She has been very poorly twice, with very high temperature and both times ended up in hospital! But tested negative.

Sartre · 29/09/2023 14:44

Had it a few times but it was just like a cold so easy to think it’s that without testing.

GettingOldB4MyTime · 29/09/2023 14:46

I've had it twice.... the first time I felt absolutely fine. It was only because I had to test twice weekly for work that it was picked up. I really do think a lot of people will have had it and not realised. Noone else in house got it.

Then my husband, 2x DC had it at the same time....I was expecting to get it again and didn't.

I got it again and felt terrible....noone else in the house got it.

My mum got it for the first time a few weeks ago.

My sister who lives with my mum, works with me within care and worked very closely with COVID patients...has still not had it.

Its all very strange how it gets to some and not others.

bemorebernard · 29/09/2023 14:58

I've not had it but I think it's because my body has been busy fighting something else .

alpenguin · 29/09/2023 15:06

My mum hadn’t had it for three years and got it this summer for the first time. My stepdad still never tested positive. I can’t believe he didn’t have it as he’s had symptoms but just never tested positive.

I think a lot of people don’t take the tests properly, I know my stepdad doesn’t and so it’s probably that combined with a low viral load rather than never having had it.

me? I’ve had it 6 times now and it has permanently damaged my lungs and heart which get worse with each re infection.

GeneralLevy · 29/09/2023 15:20

I’ve never had symptoms and thought I’d never had it- but I wonder now I caught it with a test. DH and DS had it and I tested, feeling completely normal, and I had a faint line on a few tests. Tried a few over the day, all a faint line, nothing the day before or after. I wonder now if I had before, as I wasn’t testing asymptomatic

MotherofPearl · 29/09/2023 15:23

I've never had it, in spite of multiple close encounters with infected people. After each (known) close encounter I tested on Day 5 and Day 10 afterwards but never tested positive.

ToastMarmalade · 29/09/2023 16:03

I’ve never had it and I’m amazed!

I test if anyone I know has a cold even, I test regularly as I visit an elderly relative. I’ve been on planes, buses. Have a child at school who has had it twice. My husband has had it, my other child has had it 4 times!

I am very vigilant though, ventilation and masks, I still wear masks on planes and crowded buses, I keep windows open if anyone has a cold.

And since the pandemic I’ve also never had a cold! I wonder whether I’ve learnt about transmission and have just got better at it.

It’ll probably get me in the end though!
