Many of you out there who’ve never had Covid?

Not really an AIBU subject so apologies, thought it might reach a wider audience than buried in the Covid section!

I’ve a nasty cold and just taken yet another Covid test which is negative. Beginning to feel like a bit of an anomaly & freak of nature as I don’t know anyone else that’s never had it (always tested when I’ve had colds and weekly when tests were free). Slept next to DH when he had it and DD has had it twice. I assumed I’d get it when they did & didn’t really take precautions as it seemed inevitable I’d get it too.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen to come down with the bloody thing, just seems a little odd!

Household of 4. We haven't, to our knowledge, had covid.

Bonjovispjs · 21/09/2023 13:30

I've not had it and been in contact with lots of people when they had it.

May09Bump · 21/09/2023 13:30

My daughter hasn't ever tested positive for covid but I suspect she is like me has no symptoms. I've tested positive once with no symptoms, tested as in car with a positive covid friend.

CosyFanTucci · 21/09/2023 13:30

Not yet and no real desire to try it. I don’t mingle much and am fairly cautious but have been on planes, in restaurants etc and have shared a home with infected people. I know people who have died from it and also people for whom it’s a sniffle. I’ll keep being a responsible and considerate member of society.

Castlerock44 · 21/09/2023 13:31

My daughter never got it and never had the vaccine either.

FOJN · 21/09/2023 13:32

I've not had it yet as far as I know. I've been in close proximity to other people who have tested positive within 24 hours of that contact but don't seem to have caught it.

I've wondered if I have natural immunity but someone else I know who had never had tested positive a few weeks ago so who knows. Maybe I am immune or maybe I've just been lucky so far.

Catsmere · 21/09/2023 13:32

My family (Mum and sister and I) have never had it. Sister lives in a small town in Queensland, Mum and I live in a retirement village in a city. Know plenty of people who've had it, some several times, but touch wood we haven't.

Butchyrestingface · 21/09/2023 13:34

I've never had a positive test. Certainly never had an occasion where I was ill and thought "Eureka! At last!!"

Also never had Chickenpox.

Unicorn2022 · 21/09/2023 13:34

I've never had it, DH and all my kids have never had it and none of us have had a single covid vaccination

Rosiem2808 · 21/09/2023 13:36

I have not had it and none of my family have had it

Butchyrestingface · 21/09/2023 13:37

Unicorn2022 · 21/09/2023 13:34

I've never had it, DH and all my kids have never had it and none of us have had a single covid vaccination

I've been vaccinated but due to another underlying condition, was never able to wear masks so tottered about the madding crowds at Sainsbo's and everywhere else at the height of the pandemic being breathed on (and breathing on) sans protection.

Still no Rona.

Gettingbetterallthetimes · 21/09/2023 13:39

i bloody wish. Long Covid here for 3+ years. The few people I know who hadn’t got it before - seemed to succumb in about May time.

I hope scientists study you to help reduce the impact of these viruses in the future.

londonmummy1966 · 21/09/2023 13:44

I've not had it, even when both DC had it and we didn't isolate (although they used it to justify a lot of typically teenaged behaviour around lounging around in bed all day). I spent a lot of time in a big health care setting seeing 100s of people a day and in a smaller setting for people who had COVID and still didn't get it. Testing before every shift symptomatic or not.

dooneyousmugelf · 21/09/2023 13:50

I don't know anyone who has knowingly had it

Nannyfannybanny · 21/09/2023 12:03

I joined the "covidence study group" 3 years ago with Queen Mary's university London. Have never had a symptom or positive test.... have tested when the grandkids have been in contact and gone down with it. Haven't had a cold or similar for over 15 years, can't actually remember the last one. I'm 72,was nursing over 40 years, and very fussy about hand washing . My youngest DD says I have a magic immune system. Prof doing the study says either that or I am 18!!

I can't wait to read the outcome of that study.
"One of the participants had a magical immune system or had ceased to age after the age of 18".

When it can't be explained by science, put it down to witchcraft!

Long may your good health continue.

Shellingbynight · 21/09/2023 14:18

I haven't had it, neither has my OH - unless we had it so mildly we didn't notice.

Most of our friends and family have had it, some more than once.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/09/2023 14:22

I haven't had it nor has dh

But our 6yr has plus my dad and most of my friends and family

I tested every other day due to nature of my job

allthehops · 21/09/2023 15:30

dooneyousmugelf · 21/09/2023 13:50

I don't know anyone who has knowingly had it

Seriously? Do you not have much contact with the outside world?

Diamondcurtains · 21/09/2023 15:35

I’ve not had it and neither have my younger two or husband. Eldest who is disabled and doesn’t live at home apparently had it but not sure as he came home and tested negative the same day 🤷

Igmum · 21/09/2023 15:53

I haven't had it and neither has DD or Dsis. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way

Growlybear83 · 21/09/2023 15:59

My husband hasn't had covid, despite looking after me when I had it last year. But he's had six vaccinations now and is still reasonably careful about mixing because he's clinically vulnerable.

HushHushBaby · 21/09/2023 16:15

Me. Never had it despite the fact that I was working all through the pandemic, lockdowns, taking public transport to and from work every day, went shopping and to hospital appointments. Also not vaccinated.

PinkBuffalo · 21/09/2023 16:24

I have never had covid and until fairly recently had to test every time I see my mum in a nursing home

I also surprised cos it was rife at one point I guess I just do no get much close to peoples lol

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 16:30

Diorama1 · 21/09/2023 12:53

I think its highly likely you had it but didnt know. The first time I had covid I tested negative for first 4 days. I stopped testing until two days later DS came down with a high temp. He tested positive so I retested myself and I was positive then also. Tested the rest of the children who had no symptoms and all positive.
Had I not done that extra batch of testing 3 of us wouldnt have known we had covid.

I know I definitely haven't had it as I was part of a Covid trial where they took bloods every month.

Kangaroobrain · 21/09/2023 16:33

Neither DH nor myself have ever had it, to our knowledge. We've tested any time we've felt unwell, but so far nothing.

No idea how we've avoided it - we've been on planes, crowded public transport, all sorts of busy indoor spaces. As over 50s we were vaccinated, but probably won't have it this year, so we'll see.

Edit to add: should read won't have the vaccine this year. No idea if we'll finally succumb to covid!
