Many of you out there who’ve never had Covid?

Not really an AIBU subject so apologies, thought it might reach a wider audience than buried in the Covid section!

I’ve a nasty cold and just taken yet another Covid test which is negative. Beginning to feel like a bit of an anomaly & freak of nature as I don’t know anyone else that’s never had it (always tested when I’ve had colds and weekly when tests were free). Slept next to DH when he had it and DD has had it twice. I assumed I’d get it when they did & didn’t really take precautions as it seemed inevitable I’d get it too.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen to come down with the bloody thing, just seems a little odd!

I had it early 2021. Had a day or 2 of feeling awful then felt better but was left with some fatigue for a few weeks.

I have it again now and it is so much worse this time round. I have been feeling awful for days, have horrendous back pain with it, which if I cough or sneeze I have shooting pain. I feel like I have a really bad cold and a bad stomach too. I am very tired but can’t sleep because of the back pain and I can’t do a proper cough because of that, so I am doing small coughs that doesn’t really do anything. I started feeling unwell Monday and just thought it was a bad bout of hay fever as I was sneezing a lot but didn’t really feel like it was anything other than hay fever. Since then my back pain and cold symptoms have got a lot worse and today the stomach issues and feeling sick have been added on. Day 2 of staying in bed for me. Just wish I could doze off and catch up on some sleep.

Possibly yes..although when I’ve had symptoms I’ve taken more than one test over a couple of days so who knows really! My medical knowledge is limited but interesting that for a number of people on this thread, other close family members haven’t had it either so perhaps genetics plays a part

I haven't, neither has my husband. I have other people's children in the house 5 days a week, they've all had it at least once but I've never caught it off them!

usernother · 21/09/2023 13:01

I've never had it despite working out of the home all the way through lockdown, and going straight out to busy bars, restaurants etc as soon as able. I also spent hours in a room with quite a few people who all got it from one person but I didn't. I'm not in the slightest bit worried about getting it.

Bluesky85 · 21/09/2023 13:01

I’d never had it until two weeks ago and have been really ill! I assumed I was immune as have been exposed to it loads of times before now. So don’t be complacent : )

All of my family except me have had it, some more than once.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/09/2023 13:04

Still not had it. I've done lots of tests - both when feeling well and feeling unwell - all negative. I don't feel as though I've had it iykwim. Live in London and socialise plenty, go on public transport all the time, big shops, pubs, definitely don't live a restricted life now. DH and DS both had it right at the start of the pandemic. I seem to have escaped so far (touch wood).

IDriveMySupernova · 21/09/2023 13:05

I haven’t had it. I was in the ONS study so was tested frequently, and had an antibody test. I also haven’t had a cold in five years Confused I do use hand sanitiser when I’m out and about and wash my hands when I get in though, and avoid touching my face.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 21/09/2023 13:05

Never had it, my husband and close working colleagues all have. I'm in no way thinking I'm immune but not looking forward to catching the new strain which is inevitable I guess?

Motomum23 · 21/09/2023 13:09

Covid tests do not work. You can turn them positive with various non-human fluids like juice
You are likely to have had covid but not produce enough of whatever makes a covid test show positive. I'm really surprised people are still using these flawed tests tbh.

WelshWannabe · 21/09/2023 13:11

My Dh, 2x Dc and I all got really ill at the same time. We all got tested but only dh and dc came back positive. Mine was negative. There's been a couple of times since where I've been really poorly with all the Covid symptoms and still had negative tests.

I've had issues with my lungs/breathing since the last bout of symptoms over a year ago.

useitorlose · 21/09/2023 13:12

DH and I have both had it once. We both caught it on separate trips to the UK (April and August last year) and we don't live in the UK any more (since 2018). Funny that we've not caught it here!

BoomBoom70 · 21/09/2023 13:14

Never had it either, all 3 children and husband have had it. And I’m a teacher. 🤷‍♀️

hiredandsqueak · 21/09/2023 13:14

I haven't had it nor have any immediate family apart from ds who caught it either in Tenerife or on the plane on the way home.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/09/2023 13:15

I hoped I was immune as DH caught it twice but I didn’t. However when he got it for the third time last Christmas I also came down with it. I was really unwell and I am dreading getting it again. I still have slight brain fog.

woulducouldushouldu · 21/09/2023 13:15

Teenage DD has never had it. Even after sleeping in the same bed as her Covid positive sister!

Kat19899 · 21/09/2023 13:15

I’ve never had it. Thought I did recently but the test was negative (although been in the cupboard for two years 🤦‍♀️)

GrouchyKiwi · 21/09/2023 13:16

No one in my house has tested positive. I've had miserable colds but they never produced a positive test.

ZickZack · 21/09/2023 13:16

My mum's never had it, neither has my mil or her partner.

OldTinHat · 21/09/2023 13:18

I'd never had it until three weeks ago!

PickledPuffin · 21/09/2023 13:18

I've never had covid, never had flu either. Never had many colds either.
I'm 65.
I get all the jabs though and even they don't affect me at all. I know some people are quite bad after them.

Topseyt123 · 21/09/2023 13:22

My DD1 (28 now) has never had it despite often being surrounded by people who had it, and once car sharing with her younger sister after they had attended a music festival together.

Younger sister was driving and began feeling a little rough on their journey home. She tested positive the next day, yet still DD1 remained clear. She had to test fairly regularly for work and was always negative.

My 88 year old mother has also never had it, thankfully. She was mostly shielded during the lockdowns but has been back to normal for some time now. My sister and I go out for lunch with her and also help her to do her shopping in the supermarket each week so she must have been exposed to it.

Both my sister and I have had it, and were concerned not to pass it on to our mother, so would pause our visits as necessary. She seems to have a cast iron constitution on that front though. Despite already having respiratory issues (COPD) and a serious bout of pneumonia last Christmas, none of it has been Covid related and she has had many tests.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2023 11:41

I haven't, as far as I know. Family and everyone else I know has had it at least once.

Pretty much the same with me. I've just had my Autumn booster (and flu jab) so fingers crossed I keep dodging it or, if I get it, it doesn't lay me out.. 🌹

Kenji · 21/09/2023 13:27

Neither myself or DH got it, even though both kids had it.

BlindMedusa · 21/09/2023 13:27

Never had it either, or if I've had it I've not know about it. My partners had it twice shared a bed and normal partner stuff, my 6 week old baby had it who was virtually plastered to my chest for 2 weeks with it, I've worked in close proximity to people who've had it. At one point we had to test twice a week at work as others we work with deal with palliative care and never once tested positive. However i was diagnosed in 2020 with Rheumatoid Arthritis and my consultant asked if I'd had covid as there were more people being diagnosed in my age bracket with RA who have had covid. But to my knowledge I've not and still haven't had it even though my medication now suppresses my immune system 🤷🏼‍♀️ and life has gone back to normal where people I work with can and do come into work now with it. My son also never got it even when half of his year were off with it or my mum and dad.
