Many of you out there who’ve never had Covid?

Not really an AIBU subject so apologies, thought it might reach a wider audience than buried in the Covid section!

I’ve a nasty cold and just taken yet another Covid test which is negative. Beginning to feel like a bit of an anomaly & freak of nature as I don’t know anyone else that’s never had it (always tested when I’ve had colds and weekly when tests were free). Slept next to DH when he had it and DD has had it twice. I assumed I’d get it when they did & didn’t really take precautions as it seemed inevitable I’d get it too.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen to come down with the bloody thing, just seems a little odd!

I’ve never had it nor have any of my DC’s - one at school and two at university - my DP tested positive for it a couple of months ago but it was very mild - just a cold.

Worldgonecrazy · 21/09/2023 12:34

Never had it. Nor has my father, my daughter, or my husband.

We have all lived lives as normally as possible throughout, including public transport etc.

We don’t get many colds either.

Iheartmysmart · 21/09/2023 12:36

Never had it to my knowledge. Despite working in a shop throughout, travelling by public transport regularly and taking several flights. Even when DS had it back in 2020 I didn’t get it.

In fact the only members of my immediate family who have had it are my nephew and my son.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 21/09/2023 12:46

I've never had it despite spending the day with my DS when he was most infectious and close contact with a friend who was unknowingly positive
I'm not the most sociable person going to pubs etc but I go to shops everyday

Lightningrain · 21/09/2023 12:49

Neither DP nor I have had it as far as we’re aware. If we have we’ve been asymptomatic as we’ve managed to avoid coughs and colds since testing stopped.

I’ve worked from home since the start of the pandemic and I think that had a lot to do with it as I used to catch every cold going when I was in the office.

VeloVixen · 21/09/2023 12:49

Dh got it for the first time two weeks ago. Before then no sign of it, even though when I had it I shared a bed with him still. He tested back then and never got a positive!

PauliesWalnuts · 21/09/2023 12:50

I’ve not had it. But, I don’t have kids, don’t really do public transport (mainly cycle commute), and socialise mainly outside - public gardens, hiking, climbing etc. having said that, I haven’t had a cold since 2019 when I caught one on a long haul flight.

BettyBallerina · 21/09/2023 12:52

Not had it to my knowledge neither have my children.

RedRobyn2021 · 21/09/2023 12:53

I haven't had it yet either

My DP got it last winter, it was horrible. I slept next to him but I didn't get it and neither did my 2yo DD, I do still breastfeed her too perhaps that has something to do with her not getting it? At the time we were all in the same room for sleep. I thought we were sure to get it but we didn't. There was even an instance where she drank from the same glass as him as she grabbed it off his bedside table. DP was quite poorly, not dissimilar to when he had stomach flu.

Diorama1 · 21/09/2023 12:53

I think its highly likely you had it but didnt know. The first time I had covid I tested negative for first 4 days. I stopped testing until two days later DS came down with a high temp. He tested positive so I retested myself and I was positive then also. Tested the rest of the children who had no symptoms and all positive.
Had I not done that extra batch of testing 3 of us wouldnt have known we had covid.

theemmadilemma · 21/09/2023 12:53

As far as I know I haven't. DH has.

starfishmummy · 21/09/2023 12:54

As far as I know DS (who is vulnerable and was a "shielder") have not had it.

DH had something last winter and is still not 100% back to normal, even though tests were negative, it wouldn't surprise me if it had been covid.

Augustus40 · 21/09/2023 12:54

Boosters are still being offered where I live. I am 59. I declined as have had all previous jabs and have never caught it.

MoonlightMuse · 21/09/2023 12:54

My DC and I have never had it. Shielded for the most part, regular testing and Covid vaccines up to date

billycat321 · 21/09/2023 12:54

Had a stinking cold a couple of times but soon cured it with Lemsip
Might have been Covid but felt no different to a standard stinking cold. All gone in a few days

RedRobyn2021 · 21/09/2023 12:55

My mum and step dad haven't had it either. I don't know how they haven't caught it, they travel a lot on planes all over and they're always going out for meals, socialising. I really thought they'd have been the first to catch it.

VickyEadieofThigh · 21/09/2023 12:55

I'm a complete martyr to cold viruses and bad chests and really feared Covid as I thought I was at serious risk from it.

When I finally got it - and I only tested because my partner was quite ill with it - it was like one of the weakest, most short-lived viruses I've ever experienced.

Prelapsarianhag · 21/09/2023 12:56

Nope, not yet, neither has DH or DC.

Borborygmus · 21/09/2023 12:58

As far as I know I haven't had it. In fact I only know four people who have.

Pandor · 21/09/2023 12:58

It seems to be possible to have it but experience no symptoms at all (I know someone who very recently went into hospital for something, was given a routine Covid test and in spite of having no symptoms it came back positive).

I know someone else whose only symptom was headaches, which they didn’t connect with Covid at all but discovered afterwards that they had had it.

I just had a sore throat, didn’t imagine it would be Covid, tested on the off chance and was really surprised it came back positive.

I would think there may well be a lot of people who have had it without realising, either experiencing no symptoms, or symptoms that they didn’t connect with Covid and so didn’t get tested (and may have forgotten about now).

RedPony1 · 21/09/2023 12:59

Never tested so don't know!!

Had a couple of little colds but have had to carry on life as normal anyway

MyShmoo · 21/09/2023 12:59

Me, DH (both late twenties/early 30's) and DC aged 6 have never had it.
We all tested every time we suspected we could even possibly have it but never had a positive test.
We obviously had run if the mill coughs and colds when covid was more of a worry but yeah never had a positive test or been really ill luckily.

FatCovidWorries · 21/09/2023 12:59

This was me until 2 weeks ago when it hit me like a train. It took at least a week to feel normal again. Hope you feel better soon.

I'll also add I didn't even have heavy cough cold symptoms but the full body aches and pains were so awful!

RampantIvy · 21/09/2023 12:59

I managed to avoid it all through the pandemic, then caught it from attending a work event at the beginning of this year.
I wasn't ill with it, but I then had a really awful cold over Easter and felt much worse than when I had covid. I tested negative for covid though.

I am fully vaccinated so I'd like to think that it helped when I eventually did get it.

allthehops · 21/09/2023 13:00

My DS hasn't ever tested positive even though he's been to clubs/festivals/gigs etc and had cold/cough symptoms after. He even had two PCR tests at different times when he had an awful post festival cough, still negative 🤷🏼‍♀️
