Many of you out there who’ve never had Covid?

Not really an AIBU subject so apologies, thought it might reach a wider audience than buried in the Covid section!

I’ve a nasty cold and just taken yet another Covid test which is negative. Beginning to feel like a bit of an anomaly & freak of nature as I don’t know anyone else that’s never had it (always tested when I’ve had colds and weekly when tests were free). Slept next to DH when he had it and DD has had it twice. I assumed I’d get it when they did & didn’t really take precautions as it seemed inevitable I’d get it too.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not keen to come down with the bloody thing, just seems a little odd!

A friend of mine who has never had it just tested positive last week. It would be fantastic if some people are immune though and they find out how/why and then that can be used to immunize others...

SoupDragon · 21/09/2023 12:07

As far as I know I've never had it, despite being in a household at the same time as other people have. DS1 had it with zero symptoms (tested as he was a close contact to someone who'd tested positive).

I do laugh when people say "never had it, never tested" though - how do you know you've not had it if you haven't tested?

OneTC · 21/09/2023 12:09

I've not had it and nor has anyone in my immediate family. OH had it and we slept in the same room and like a pp I just assumed it was inevitable that with extended close contact I'd get it but I kept testing negative. Pretty much everyone I know otherwise has had it a few times. I live in London, had a public facing job throughout the plague and socialize as normal when it's been allowed

TranscendingTheSituation · 21/09/2023 12:12

I’m a teacher who was exposed to many kids who were in my classes and then out with Covid the next day and as far as I know I’ve never had it. I’ve had a couple mild colds since 2020 (but none with a fever or exhaustion) and have tested multiple times each time and was always negative. I feel very fortunate.

StHilarion · 21/09/2023 12:12

Luckily I have never had it, only tested when husband had it and when it was necessary for travel. Am 60 and have never had a cold either. Occasionally have had swollen glands, sore throats. My husband averages about 2/3 colds a year

StEtienne93 · 21/09/2023 12:12

I've still not had it, despite working in a public building all through the pandemic and DD attending childcare throughout, due to me being a key worker. My STBX and DD haven't had it either. I still test at least once weekly because my Dad is severely immunocompromised.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 12:13

I thought I was immune, went down with it on Monday.

PerfectMatch · 21/09/2023 12:14

We've all had it at different times (me, DH and two DSs) except DD who has never had it as far as we know.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2023 12:14

I'm the last person I know to get it,everyone I know is on their second/third/ fourth case of it.

Mooserp · 21/09/2023 12:14

I've never tested positive, but I guess like anyone, I could have had it and not known e.g. if it was too mild to consider testing.

Dreamingofthishouse · 21/09/2023 12:16

Never had it, in July several family members had it. We all had same type of symptoms but mine more short lived and less. I never tested positive and they did- they all had it previously too. Slept beside DH when he had it, kids had it and still I never tested positive.

PinkRoses1245 · 21/09/2023 12:18

I’ve never tested positive but sure I had it back in march 2020. That said I rarely get ill and throughout only tested if essential, like for travelling. No way I’d test now, haven’t got about 2 years.

Nagado · 21/09/2023 12:19

I’ve never had it. I put it down to a mixture of luck, being quite antisocial and being a huge fan of social distancing when I do have to go somewhere.

Lizzieregina · 21/09/2023 12:21

I think I had it in Jan 2020 as I was quite unwell but we didn’t know about COVID then. I joined a university study in Autumn of 2020 and they told me I had antibodies. Only sick the one time in 2020 where I could have gotten them.

I finally tested positive in August 2022. DD had it fairly bad in December 2020, so I thought we were all getting it, but just her that time.

It’s making the rounds here again, so I’m not optimistic about staying negative.

drinkuptheezider · 21/09/2023 12:22

I'm recovering from my first bout of it now. I was feeling quite smug that I hadn't had it.

Thelnebriati · 21/09/2023 12:22

I've tested negative and family members have tested positive through 3 bouts of Covid.

Augustus40 · 21/09/2023 12:22

Me and 18 yr old d s never had it. Most other friends have had it.

rowanrome · 21/09/2023 12:23

Never had it, neither has my husband, son or grandchildren. Our daughter has had it four times however and I would say out of all of us she takes the most care not to get it. We've been at festivals or camping with people who have caught it but never us.

Mummyoflabradors · 21/09/2023 12:27

I’ve never had it neither has my husband, both in our sixties and worked throughout the pandemic.

Words · 21/09/2023 12:27

I've never had it, but am worried my time is approaching especially as it seems my age group ( 55 to 65) won't be getting a booster this year.

I'm trying to be very careful as I know of a lot of people who have had it recently. I tend to keep to myself but can't avoid certain situations unfortunately.

user1471517095 · 21/09/2023 12:29

Never had it, husband got it, a friend we spend a lot of time with got it. Mother & Father in Law have both had it last week, I work them and I'm still Covid free.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/09/2023 12:30

Likewise

justteanbiscuits · 21/09/2023 12:34

I've not. And worked on a covid ward during first lockdown, and again start of 2021. Have shared house / bed with husband and kids when they had it. I am vaccinated, but obviously wasn't in 2020 when working on wards.

I may, obviously, have had it and simply not realised because I didn't have symptoms. But I did spend most of 2020/2021/2022 testing regularly as was working in healthcare.

RubiesandRose · 21/09/2023 12:34

Not until this Saturday, neither DH or I had knowingly had it. We travelled back from a holiday in Cyprus and I started feeling shivery on the plane but put it down to the late night flight, woke up the next morning at home with a high temp feeling absolutely dreadful and found some still in date lateral flow tests and hey presto we have Covid!!

I have a cough, high temperature, fatigue, loss of taste and smell and a nasty viral rash, aching joint's, infact the whole range of horrible symptoms.

I thought I was immune to Covid but apparently not!
