I still fancy RB

WesterChick · 19/09/2023 23:16

I've watched the documentary.

I still fancy RB.

I identify as a radical feminist.

I'm married with kids.

I think that if you are a heterosexual woman, you are either in denial on what men are or you accept what they are but find them irresistibly sexually attractive and so continue to be with them.

RB is simply what the vast majority of men would be like if they could get away with it.

Therefore - and because he's bloody good looking, funny and intelligent - and sexy - I will continue to fancy the pants off him.

I think women who are being all shocked and descusted at his behaviour need to consider what men are actually like. There's not some massive demarcation between him and other men.

OP posts:
Litmus1001 · 20/09/2023 16:26

I have always found him unattractive to look at and mediocre at best in terms of talent. His stunts were often also in bad taste. His 'new age' reinvention escaped me until recently, although I was aware he'd (apparently) overcome sex and drug addiction. Regardless of what he looks like, past 'stunts' or personas, and claim of rape needs to be taken seriously and properly investigated. For what it's worth I imagine some women (and men) found him very attractive in the past, and still do (some maybe more so because they feel sorry for him too).

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 16:21

Loopy you only had "an ideal" though because you knew of the previous accusation and then put it together with your own experience.

If you'd never been privy to that allegation would you have still had "an idea"? Be honest.

It’s impossible to tell, isn’t it. Any view I formed would always be based on hindsight, however hard I tried to ignore it. I’ll admit that while I was with him I made excuses for things I would now class as red flags. How conscious I was that I was doing that at the time. I don’t know.

Whatafustercluck · 20/09/2023 16:38

I've been in a few consensual relationships in my time, and had some flings and one night stands. I'm not sure whether you attract the wrong kind of men, but I can verify that from my own experience, and that of my female friends' perspectives, no, the majority of men are not like RB. And I'm a feminist, too, and can see all kinds of wrong in the world. My dh, my dad, my ds and my male friends are all equally, and genuinely, horrified. You just have a very warped taste in men.

Hi OP

In your fantasy of him, does he treat you better than he has other women? Are you the one that makes him see women differently? Or does he use you or rape you like he has others? Just want to understand the mindset. *

V good question. Especially as RB’s modus operandi was to try and make the woman he was with that night feel like they were oh so special, that all the other girls were just meaningless screws, that they may in fact be the one he has been searching for all his life….

Gifgirl · 20/09/2023 16:52

If one of my friends said something like this, I might suggest that they speak to a psychiatrist..

LlynTegid · 20/09/2023 17:00

There are women who find Boris Johnson attractive. I view them as having low self-esteem.

I hope you get better soon OP. Liking Russell Brand is like defending the Krays because they were kind to their mother, it does not take away any evil.

Notpooryet · 20/09/2023 17:02

Tonight1 · 19/09/2023 23:18

😬

I've always thought he was seedy and boring

Same. It's called taste, and OP is so desperate to defend herself that she tries to make some big statement out of it.
Utter bollocks.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 17:45

Or op just genuinely still finds RB attractive? Shes allowed to . I Find d it weird that people find boris Johnson attractive. I find him equally odious . Horses for courses ,

Maireas · 20/09/2023 17:46

I agree that women attracted to men like this often suffer from low self-esteem. They feel somehow validated by the dominating and abusive behaviour. It's strange, too, that some people can dismiss or minimise some men's behaviour towards other women. Is it just a lack of empathy?
@LlynTegid - good points.

ClearThisUp · 20/09/2023 17:51

Everyone’s attracted to who they are attrected to.
But that’s different from seeing men for who they are.

I don’t understand these laughs ’sorry, for knowing scummy men’ type of comments.
Reality is many men are awful, many men hate women, use women, hurt women.
That’s a fact.
Nothing wrong with acknowledging it.

Bigcoatweather · 20/09/2023 17:54

Good looking? I can’t get past the teeth, let alone the squeaky voice, the raging narcissism, the grim, frenetic sexual deviant humour…..and the need for disinfectant.

Don't want fall out, but that seems frighteningly disingenuous.

It's not about "being allowed".

But he's all over the press for alleged rape, and predatory abuse.

Not worth mentioning? I mean that's why OP mentioned it.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 18:10

No I get it , dont want to fall out either . I guess despite everything I said people just find attractive what they find attractive. I'm off men altogether so can't really comment.

FabFitFifties · 20/09/2023 18:19

I thought he was bloody gorgeous too OP - and I had assumed the way he acted was just that, an act. Gutted to hear thats not the case. I'm astounded to read how many people claim to have always found him creepy and unattractive - I thought he was quite beautiful in my younger days. I was equally gutted to find out Depp isn't as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside

egowise · 20/09/2023 18:21

I was attracted to him back then. But with these allegations that has come to an end.

Watching the programme, has really had me questioning how I found him even vaguely amusing, never mind funny and attractive.

However I do agree that there is something rotten within society that allows this behaviour, and sadly many many men exhibit this kind of behaviour.

Those on this thread stating 'it's the men attracted to you' and 'you are attracted to certain men' tread the line of victim blaming.

Which bits did you find gorgeous? There's something of the night about him.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 20/09/2023 19:13

I was thinking about this after watching the dispatches show because I definitely used to fancy Russell Brand. I was a teenager when he was very famous, and would have been just a little younger than ‘Alice’. I went off him after Sachs-gate and then basically forgot about him. I am now in my mid-30s and truly REPULSED by him. Even if we set aside the criminal allegations for a minute, he is just an absolutely stereotypical BORE. No one truly believes he is anything other than a rich white man who makes jokes about treating women badly and thinks we all want to know his opinion on Covid vaccinations and the mainstream media. Mate, you ARE the mainstream. We’re subjected to this mainstream view every single day. Say something truly radical (try pushing for equality for women or something) or just fuck off.

Never sleep with a man with a podcast or a YouTube channel, that’s my rule. I’m proud of my boundaries.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 20/09/2023 19:55

He isn’t in the slightest bit sexy, but each to their own. I don’t care who he is, I wouldn’t touch him with a bargepole, the dirty lecherous creep. Up your standards, OP 🤣

CherryMaDeara · 20/09/2023 20:01

He has aged badly, I was surpised he's only 48, I thought he was 55.

Candlelight34 · 20/09/2023 20:11

The allegations are not good.
Noone should get away with this behaviour if it found to be true.

The most handsome person can be ugly as sin if they do such horrible acts.

Lingfield01 · 20/09/2023 20:14

We don’t know what he’s guilty of in truth, it’s all alleged. Regardless (IMO) he churns my stomach.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 20:21

What do I know . I fancy Sheldon off the Big Bang Theory.

I stand by my earlier posts tho as a professional.

YeOldeBuxomWench · 20/09/2023 20:22

I have never seen the appeal. I did find him funny sometimes, but he looked a bit like a gangly and greasy grinning horse.

I haven't made a judgement on anything in the media because its not been investigated by the police or been through a trial yet. Then I will decide. I'm a bit pissed off with the media and channel 4 for employing him and apparently knowing what he was like all these years, but only making it an issue when he was highlighting rampant corruption across this country and the world to people and they can't use him to make money anymore. They could have stopped him years ago of these allegations were true.

Ilinaya · 20/09/2023 20:23

OP me too.

The shock on this thread is ridiculous. He had women throwing themselves at him for so many years, he was openly crude and offensive and sex obsessed, yet he still had women flocking, he is clearly attractive to many people.
Aside from the rape allegations which are yet to be proved and he vehemently denies, everything else about him was in the public domain already. I don't feel shocked by any of it.

Nanny0gg · 20/09/2023 20:24

WesterChick · 20/09/2023 07:19

Does literally nobody else think that most men would do what he did if they could get away with it?

Men have always been jealous of him.

I don't think there is this huge line between him and other men. So shoot me.

I honestly don't know any men of any age who are as sleazy and off the wall as he is.

So no, I don't think 'most men' anything.

But then I rarely think 'most women' anything either
