It's not half as salacious, possibly a bit dry and dull to most people.

But it's fucking constitutional dynamite

Yeah sure. Two separate media organisations did 4 years of investigation to bury the fact that Boris Johnson is a cunt.

I genuinely don't understand how people who think the world works this way cope with life.

'The shop's out of milk again. Oh no, the Illuminati must be restricting supply to distract us from the alien landings'

Exactly

I'm quite sure a press officer took advantage of the situation to bury the story but the rest is paranoia

YoureALizardHarry11 · 19/09/2023 08:26

Every time a news story comes out, it has to be distracting from something else? I understand this tactic is used sometimes, but sometimes news is just news!

Why do people insist on tying themselves in knots trying to crack some cryptic nonsense constantly? It’s hardly the revelation of the century that BoZo is a colossal cunt.

By your logic, everything is a distraction 🤣 so do we stop having news anymore? But then we’d never find out what we’re meant to be being distracted from 🤣

I can’t wrap my head around this thought process, it’s exhausting!

Lastchancechica · 19/09/2023 08:27

It is so disturbing that people, like op, actually believe all of these cover up/conspiracies. They are no different to the flat earthers. Maybe they ARE flat earthers on the left side of politics.

The Boris thing has been known about for years, literally years and was picked over liberally by MN then. This is not breaking news by a very long stretch.

Its incredible you think Boris Johnson is so powerful that he can click his fingers and even left wing media outlets will do his bidding!

It’s astonishing these people are allowed to vote, slightly terrifying.

Honestly, I do hate when people see conspiracy in everything. It is such a pitiful conceit on the part of the conspiracist, to believe that they are uniquely able to spot the glitch in the matrix or whatever, when in reality they have such limited capacity to reckon with the mundanity of how society actually works and the interplays between various institutions.

This. It’s such a self-centred world view.

I have a mate who is forever ranting on about the 'upper class elites' and what they want for us plebs - ironic considering she works for the most elite family in the world. It makes meetings with her tedious ans I wish she'd get of Twitter or X or whatever it's called this week.

The level of generalised paranoia in our society has really rocketed since covid and this thread is a classic example

Hasn't it. Gremlins under the bed and monsters lurking around every corner. Pretty sure if this was being buried by 'them' it wouldn't be breaking on the BBC website, either.

viviscool · 19/09/2023 08:30

I'm usually cynical about conspiracy theories and think they're peddled by loonies, but this Russell Brand thing is....odd.
Old news. Everyone knew. He's written about it in his blog. Dozens of celebs were doing this in the nineties. I've read a few autobiographies, written by very famous comedians/musicians from that era and their partners/wives, which detail this kind of repeated debauched behaviour. And yet they're going for RB and no one else? It smells off.

No, the past had just caught up with him. It’s not odd, it was always going to happen eventually. As one of his victims said she was waiting for the day he would be arrested. They have been working on this investigation for years:

He’s definitely not written about raping women and abusing teenagers in his blogs! The news isn’t that he’s a womaniser, it’s that he’s a rapist. That was not known before this.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/09/2023 08:34

@viviscool The story is he painted it as consensual debauched behaviour but women have come forward and said it was actually sexual assault and abuse.

That is why the documentary is called "hiding in plain sight".

nobodysdaughternow · 19/09/2023 08:37

As a narcissist, Brand is skilled in putting out his own stories and creating a climate of conspiracy and fear.

He believes he is the most important person in the world and as such, what that his thoughts and words have huge influence.

He relies on charisma to influence people and obscure his behaviour.

True, scary narcs (and I have a mother like this so I know what I'm talking about) don't change, don't feel regret or remorse and believe they are the all-powerful victim. He will just carry on like this for life until he is locked up for rape.

heathspeedwell · 19/09/2023 08:42

This is sadly the reality of rape. Rapists are often charming and manipulative. They often rape and abuse people they know. It's all about power and their desire to feel powerful by pushing and pushing to see how much they can get away with.

Fizbosshoes · 19/09/2023 08:44

Editors; which powerful, charismatic, lying, self important, egotist that likes pompous and blustering words, pretends they don't own a comb and is inexplicably appealing to women, shall we make the headline story? The blonde or the brunette?

...and this is exactly what his 'new persona' wants you to think. It's never 'odd' to investigate genuine rape claims.

Just like Saville publicly made jokes about his liking for young girls. It's a cover for them so that if anyone complains they get the ' will what did you expect? He's a womaniser/ sex addict' and the rest. He treated women like disposable receptacles for his dick. Everyone laughed about it because he used long words. There is enough evidence about Brand. Maybe there isn't enough evidence about the others. That is why the story is about him, not the rest. It should make the media look at their safeguarding policies and how their 'talent' behaves, even if they are making them a shit ton of money. It will come back to bite all of them on the bum.

AutumnCrow · 19/09/2023 08:45

I would say that the Boris Johnson and Russell Brand stories have something in common, a 'common enemy' if you like, and that's getting people to give a shit.

And to give as much of a shit as the stories warrant.

Namechangedtoanswerthisone · 19/09/2023 08:48

I think both BJ and RB are assholes and one appears to also have support regardless of women who say he raped or sexually assaulted them. It is possible that both are awful that the story is true about BJ of course but that doesn't mean then that RB is not a sexual predator/rapist does it.

Why do people assume if one thing is correct then the other can not also be true.

Nobody is saying this, though. The idea is rather that when there are big stories, the government lets otherwise headline news into the press so that it gets overlooked. Or perhaps sometimes there will be a big story which isn't time sensitive, like the Brand one, and the papers have some discretion about when to release the story.

Nobody is saying that they did the investigation specifically to bury this. It's just that timing in newspaper stories has always been used to political advantage. When a seemingly trivial story is being pushed for an entire week, it's hardly illuminati level conspiracy to ask yourself why that is.

Namechangedtoanswerthisone · 19/09/2023 08:50

Powerful, successful men Saville, Brand, etc are good at using smoke and mirrors to get people to look the other way and many do look the other way and turn themselves into knots looking for reasons of why they didn't sexually assault, rape etc. Why do people assume the victims are liars and the famous are innocent?

I agree with you.

I also think the Boris story was released because the RB story was taking up a lot of attention, rather than the other way around.

BoohooWoohoo · 19/09/2023 07:34

RB's tour started on the day that the documentary and article was released which I suspect could be the reason for that specific release date.

No it didn’t - the tour started on 17th August in his own pub.

nicas · 19/09/2023 08:55

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/09/2023 07:32

The police should be dealing with him, not the media.

For someone so up on the media, you seem to have missed a few recent stories about the police and sex offending. Please Google 'police, sex offences, completely shit, don't give a fuck, predators themselves'. For a start.

Take the tin foil hat off for the results. Otherwise your mind might actually blow.

Except the Boris story is lifted from a BBC doc that has been in the schedule for months. The ep with the Queen “revelation” aired last night. The timing is therefore pure coincidence and the Boris story hasn’t been deliberately buried.

@donquixotedelamancha ·

The real question is: what did Russell Brand do to piss off the lizard people?

Easy - he put himself above the parapet.

Off with his head

If anything I'd reckon the BBC released that to take the shine off C4's revelations and bring the news spotlight back to them.

Oh don’t worry, they are going for the others too. It’s just a matter of time and working out how to legally get round NDAs.
