AIBU to think... 'here we go again?'

Anyone watching? I've always said 'innocent until proven guilty' but also 'there is no smoke without fire'.

Having been sexually assaulted myself, one of the stories seem so similar to mine.

What's your thoughts?

This is the most confusing post, I know. I just don't know how I feel.

@Panaa

that is totally incorrect there is no selection process or questioning of jurors at all. They are invited to step down if they have good reasons not to serve such as they know a party in the hearing but that is it.

saythatagaintome · 17/09/2023 16:29

I believe them. He’s always struck me as the type that COULD do something like this. Over inflated ego…King complex. Self absorbed.

Maybe because he challenges the establishment and the way the world is run and calls out large corporations - is it a big surprise there’s a story to discredit him. Do you really believe everything you’re told to without question??

Well I don't believe HIM and it's foolish in the extreme to think this is in any way credible!!

Russell Brand - a threat to the Establishment!! Don't make me laugh. He just doesn't have the profile!

The information is out there. Read the times article (someone has shared viewable version on reddit).

Her mum got her to text him and tell her her age, thinking that it would put him off. It didn’t, which she was upset by. However as her daughter was 16, her mum didn’t feel able to control her whereabouts or stop her. She went to his home and walked her daughter to the doorstep so she could meet him and he could see she was from a loving family who cared about her (the daughter was going there anyway, and she didn’t want to turn a blind eye). When they arrived, he kissed the mum on the lips, which she was very upset by. Her daughter continued seeing him, which she didn’t feel able to stop (and legally she couldn’t). 16-year-olds in 2003 could go and get a flat and a job. The options were chuck her out or…?

That is such a cop out as an explanation. Sorry but it is. It doesn't matter that it was printed in the Times, its a weak explanation for someone who was clearly star stuck and not looking out for her daughter.

Do you honestly think, if Bert Jones the 30 something bus driver living down the street was having sex with her daughter she would have done all that?

She could have talked to her DDs school, raised her concerns and got support. She could have threatened to contact the media and outed him as a sleezebag. This was 2003 not the 1990s, it would have been a story. He would have dropped her like a hot rock if she'd done that.

She could have literally done anything more than she did. But she didn't. She drove her there to show what a nice family she had. He was obviously a preditor, why would that deter him. She was so obviously star struck.

She was abused by Brand and let down by her mother.

Yet we are told by several posters that it's the age of consent so no big deal. People need to make up their minds.

Are you referring to me pointing out the fact that it’s not illegal to have sex with a 16 year old (pretty sure I’ve not seen anyone saying it’s nbd)?

You suggested upthread the mother should be condemned for not reporting him to police for grooming. That was not possible as the age of consent was and is 16.

The facts by themselves are condemnable enough, it’s not necessary or useful to suggest something is illegal when it isn't.

If you are clear about the facts, it also facilitates discussion about what might need changing.

Im sorry the world and its mother knew he was a sex addict and fetishist. Come on. Like he made absolutely no secret of it plus has bedded supposedly 1000's of women. Like so what. Thats no crime to me.like who made dispatches the new police. Why wasnt it handed over to the police. The producers searched for " victims" innocent til proven guilty. The only thing he is guilty of is being a sex Addict and shadowy obscured victims claims. I feel so sorry for him-his wife and kids.this trial by media has to stop
Take the whole up with police.
Cancel culture at its best.
Every one last night who applauded him after the show was anti cancel culture not per se pro RB.
He will not be prosecuted as insufficient evidence yady ya but his career is in ruins

Wow, just wow.

I am incredulous that there are people living and breathing amongst us with such narrow comprehension skills.

It's sick and sad.

i would have left DD in the car, gone in and cleaved his knob off.

Totaly · 17/09/2023 14:56

plenty of things can appear damning when selected on that basis, that one would view differently in the light of full and balanced information. That's why we have a judicial system with prosecution and defence

most rape cases don’t make it to court. What do you suggest is the answer for those victims?

I don't know, but I don't think this is. How is it going to help the alleged victims, or give them any closure? Some people will believe them, some won't. A bunch of organisations will refuse to work with RB for pragmatic PR reasons. He'll carry on, maybe have to refocus his career again, and the segment of the population that are already attracted to his conspiracy theory stuff will double down in defence of him.

Also I don't think any of these women tried to take it to court, did they? So it's not like this is a reaction to their inability to do so.

When the establishment want to silence someone for speaking the truth this is what they do. Trouble is people will believe it.

This is just delusional. You've been brainwashed

Worrying isn't it? Shows a level of comprehension that helps us understand how Snake Oil Salesman Russell Brand gathers his audience. An audience that admires his verbosity and intelligence. Such a bloody low bar, God help us.

Also, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? They're all so quiet about what happened at the BBC parties in years gone past....which everyone knew...the young boys from my homeless youth hostel could tell a tale or two..

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 17/09/2023 16:50

How do people think Brand was any threat to the establishment? He's the same as the other "new world order" loons on YouTube. It is laughable that people seem to believe his inane ramblings on YouTube were a threat to anyone.

That he has this cult leader like following astounds me. And yet then people like me are told we are just sheeple and not free blah blah blah. No I'm neither of those things, I just don't believe everything anyone says to me!

allmyliesaretrue · 17/09/2023 16:53

Messyhair321 · 17/09/2023 15:19

I agree, I cannot abide these stories because it always feels to me that the media gives zero fucks about guilt, innocence, justice, accountability or even truth. No one watching really has a clear understanding of what happened because we are only seeing one side of this.
The media seem to just repeat what will generate the most engagement and outrage, regardless of what actually happened. No one knows. And the people reporting probably don't actually care.

Does it not occur to you that all of this will have been rigorously and forensically scrutinised by highly experienced and respected legal counsel before any of it could air? This will have had to be watertight. Which is why I am inclined to believe it. Ch4 is not without blame in the situation either.

RB's sleazy background makes the accusations all the more credible. For someone having sex with multiple women a day, and with his misogynistic attitudes towards women, it's not that much of a stretch that allegations he crossed the line are credible??

If they have tales to tell, then they absolutely should tell them.

Why should any of these abusive bastards get away with their crimes?

Wsmi · 17/09/2023 16:55

Whether he is guilty or not, it makes you wonder why this is all coming out now. The establishment were more than happy to let get on with his deeds for 20 years. It’s only become a problem now that he speak out against them. The so-called truth exposers are the bigger problem here. They have no beef with predatory behaviour. They have an issue with people going against them. If women on MN think that the guy is being exposed for being abusive wot women, then they are deluded. He is being punished for going against he paymasters.

I guess she assumed he had met her and thought she was older, and as a grown man would not want to be involved with a 16 yo.

Certainly a lot of men would back off at that point.

I suppose the idea in going to the house was to confront him, and by accounts he assaulted her.

I guess you actually wouldn’t have severed his dick with a knife, which would leave your daughter not just involved with this bloke but also with a mum facing prison for grievous bodily harm. 🙄

Don’t be so naive. This is not ‘news’ to those who are supposedly running this big expose. They are not on women’s side.

Read some of the brainwashed posts above who've read got it bad.

I am far from naive. You are totally wrong. Of course the big corporations will have their arses covered legally - they are not going to leave themselves open to be sued now, are they?

You're the one who's naive, and worse.

hamstersarse · 17/09/2023 17:01

I just watched the programme and it’s all depressingly familiar. Nothing hugely surprising about his behaviour, as the clips of him show, he’s been pretty upfront and open about his sexual perversions

I’ve noticed this sort of stuff doesn’t stir up any emotion anymore in me. I believe the women, I think he’s gross but something still feels contrived about the whole thing. The big build up, the deleted tweet, the timed releases. It seems to me that people are making money off the story, and that makes me weary and unable to engage with it in a genuine way.

I’d have preferred the journalists to take the evidence to the police rather than this contrived media circus, but they didn’t because the most important thing is their ad revenue and subscribers.

the whole thing is grubby.
