In a supermarket and heard a middle aged woman say 'OH! You've got back off your holibobs then!?'

What is wrong with saying 'holiday'? I actually cringed when I heard it.

Feel free to add your own...

I used to love that Mumsnet was a grown up, "hubby" free zone

But it's starting to appear

I hate grab, as in grab a coffee
Hot choc
Yum
Yummy
Nom
Cost
Snuggles

It's like being in a nursery

Any use of the term ‘Karen’ in a derogatory sense - even when used about v unreasonable women - has me instantly believing the person who said it is
A. Dim
B. A misogynist

I'd forgotten that

Yes, I think they're thick as mince

@alibongo5

Is that like "within their gift *

No I mean "I was gifted £1,000,000" (I wish!). I don't know why it grates but it does. I also give presents not gifts.

NyanBinaryJohn · 17/09/2023 09:19

Unalived.

Because apparently the word 'killed' is triggering. This one is mostly used by those people who engage in psychobabble.

No. Unalived is used by people on TikTok because saying 'murdered' will result in their video being deleted. It's a way of circumventing TikTok's rules.

NyanBinaryJohn · 17/09/2023 13:24

@scruffington it's made its way off TikTok in to the mainstream.

dextersontopofhiskennel · 17/09/2023 15:39

@NyanBinaryJohn thank you for that! Good grief I feel old

Blue lighted - sorry just irritates me

Loathe this one. Everybody and their granny's dog is "blue lighted" 🥴

Bunlass · 17/09/2023 16:16

glitterintheforest · 17/09/2023 16:40

Veg.

I hate hearing "veg"

Just say which vegetables or say vegetables!

Phos · 17/09/2023 17:04

"Get your ducks in a row"

Very often seen on Mumsnet.

Veg.

Can I add to this "taties" instead of potatoes?

Oh and someone was on here the other day calling Marks and Spencer “Markies”.

I saw that and cringed!

“My truth”

Yes!

NotSayingItsTheMasonsBut · 16/09/2023 20:19

"You got this" sounds utterly manic, no sometimes we haven't "got this"
"Iconic" honestly makes my skin crawl I can't bear it, it's now used to describe absolutely anything, shape of a bag, a perfume.
"Back in the day" and "Retro" when said about something that's happened in the last five years.
#BeKind..used so much to protect narcissists after their abuse

I hate "You got this" too: it's the nondenominational version of that platitude "God never gives us a heavier burden than we can bear".

Or in other words, "Don't ask me for help because I'm not really that bothered."

StoatofDisarray · 17/09/2023 17:10

"Can I get" when ordering a coffee (or anything else).

HazelBite · 17/09/2023 17:11

Like, (please use sparingly and in the correct context)

Quite common where I live in Scotland.

Raging is very common in Ireland too. Furious, seething etc sound so OTT to me!

HerMammy · 17/09/2023 18:28

A lot of these disliked words or phrases are regional, tatties, markies, raging are all common terms in Scotland and Ireland, too many on MN think there's no world outside of SE England. The addition of R to any word annoys me but I realise it's regional.

ALongHardWinter · 17/09/2023 18:30

Reaching out. I've had several emails lately saying 'Thank you for reaching out to us'. Sounds so daft.
